    Hey Everyone. I thought I had been clear, and I think I missed the mark in the end. The ending was a response to a subscriber who has been pretty active. While I think it is a fitting theory - I don't believe that's actually what happened. There is no Canon explanation of the origins of the breen. There is a non-canon book series (Typhon Pact) that explains they wear it to prevent racism. I think this is most likely because it's the most 'trek' explanation - unless they are made to be the ultimate baddies. Anyway, I hope that clarifies ;)

      Perhaps the suits are their for religious reason. They have been described as being Xenophobic and perhaps it is because they think they are the center of the universe and to allow others to see their true form would in some way prevent them from getting to Breen heaven.
      Then there is theory B. Much like the Chigs in Space: Above and Beyond, they suites are there to enhance their combat abilities and are so integrated into their bodies that they can no longer live without them. Add on top of that, if nobody knows what your species looks like then it would be very easy to send spies into the midst of your enemies and them never know you are there.

      the Breen were around a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away. in star wars return of the jedi, princes lea pretended to be a bounty hunter called Boushh who is Ubess and infiltrated the palace of Jabba the Hutt with a wookie that he claimed to have captured called chewbacca. now if i didnt know better it would say that the Ubess evenlty tuned into the Breen. similar lingo, gear, and no worried about sucidide/death to achieve the goal.

      I think that the Breen are a lot like the way Colonel Jack O'Neill from Stargate SG-1 pictured the furlings. Cute cuddly and fuzzy. That's why the Breen wear the suits, it's the only way for their enemies and adversaries to find them intimidating and take them seriously.

    I think there was a Breen prisoner at the Dominion Prison Camp Worf and Garak went to ("In Purgatory's Shadow"/"By Inferno's Light"). This leads me to believe that like Starfleet and the Klingons, Breen were secretly captured and replaced with Changelings. I'm thinking that it was this Breen Changeling that persuaded the rest of the Breen to join the Dominion.

    it’s also been hypothesized that they wear the suits purely for psychological purposes to keep your enemy guessing as to what you truly are.

    The Breen were present at the Treaty of Bajor, but don't forget that both Cardassia and the Breen agreed to be PART of the Dominion. Thus the Dominion as a whole signed that treaty. In the picture shown here -> wiki.pegasusfleet.net/index.php/Treaty_of_Bajor where the treaty is signed we only see Dominion representatives, but still there are two Breen to the left in the background.

    I actually like the idea the Breen are not one species, but several, that pretend to be one powerful species to keep others from invading. That makes sense from what we know of the Breen and explain why they keep into the suite. It might also explain why they have a unhealthy interest in the UFP, for they consider it a threat to their way of life. That it would lead to descent for the people question why the way they do things. Or just to make themselves seem even stronger for what would be a greater symbol of power then have territory that once belong to the mighty Federation. Praticuraly the capital of the UFP, Earth.

    • @LoreReloaded

      A future series I intend to do will focus on book Canon only so that I can add more of this with out feeling like I am muddying the waters. I think that was an interesting take but there wasn't a lot of Canon to support it for the main piece. I could have included it in the ending but if you watch sfdebris, you know he was playing that off as a laugh so I was trying to go morbid. Its been a while since I really read that series so I will need to go back and include it in the next series. Should have at least mentioned it though..yea

      @@LoreReloaded Actually, I am not sure you read this comment, but there is a canonical proof this may be the case. That there seem to be multiple homeworlds of the Breen. One is a cold world the Cardassians are familiar with. Another is a temperate world the Dominion is. It could be a simple as keeping the Dominion from knowing which homeworld is there, but it could also be the Breen are a multi-race alliance and switch leadership every so odd number of years.

      I suppose they may simply cross breed with medical assistance.

I mean, marriage and mating for life is a human concept that only a few select species on earth practics to ensure units come together to produce kids and teach them. We don't know much about the Breen, but it could be a system set up that the government takes care of all children and the biological parents give up all custody after birth. Assuming artificial procuration is not the norm and parents only donate the material necessary to keep their race from dying out.

    This a cannon origin of the Breen.

    • @LoreReloaded
      @LoreReloaded  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yea, that was from the 'Typhon Pact'. It's been brought up once already. They, look most any star trek book, are not considered Canon. I was on the fence about using the books because of a few other things I didn't necessarily like (though I found that part of the breen fascinating). I am debating doing a 'Non-Canon' series where we look at the 'EU' that's been expanded on the species.

    Great video, I love any content related to the Breen they're so mysterious and weird. However ,I think, in cannon it was a small Klingon Bird of Prey that had to modify its reactor core in a non standard configuration that led to them discovering a method to nullify the Breen energy damping weapon, not the Cardasians. The entire Klingon fleet was then reconfigured to match and the method was adapted to Star fleet tech. However since the Romulans used an artificial micro singularity to power most of their ships it took much longer for them to figure out how to adapt their tech...

    The Breen's attack on Earth is like Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. In theory, it looks good, but in practice you have missed the target. Instead of bombing the earth and San Francisco, the Breen would have been supposed to attack a militarily more significant target. The Utopia Planitia shipyards in Mars orbit. The largest shipyard of Starfleet. The destruction of the shipyards on Mars would have hit the Federation much harder than the attack on Earth. What's your opinion ?

    The alpha quadrant powers were in no position to penalize the breen. The federation, and klingon forces were heavily depleted. The cardassians had to focus on completely rebuilding their infrastructure, and the romulans had a huge political upheaval to deal with on top of their own military loses.

    The Breen were present at the signing of the Treaty of Bajor, and they may even have gained territory as a result of joining the war. The Dominion, while still the lawful government of Cardassia, granted the Breen Confederacy several territorial concessions from Cardassian holdings. If the Breen retained control of those territories at the end of the war, then their participation could be considered a strategic victory for the Confederacy.

    Idk the Breen seem more likely to sort of enjoy pain. I keep thinking about how a Breen was captured by the Founders and the Breen still wanted to be a ally after finding out.
    Maybe they are a race who have a deadly virus but we've just never seen them. The suit could sterilize everything, and maybe provide painkillers to keep the Breen going. Hell maybe the Breen aren't that effected by the virus and it's only deadly to other races.
    Would kinda explain their xenophobia and quick acceptance of suicidal missions.

    • @LoreReloaded
      @LoreReloaded  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In a book series, they are actually multiple species - but to prevent any one race from being above the other, they wear the suits. The ending piece was me having a bit of fun, albeit possibly a bad idea.

    I don't know if the Breen wear their suits out of necessity or some other purpose, but this thought sprung to mind.
    Not knowing who or what you're dealing with is a very effective tactic at getting the upper hand. Bravery in the face of danger is one thing, but taking on an adversary like that, you'd always have a nagging thought in your mind.
    Who, or *what*, is in there?! And that thought would grow the longer it's played out. (Rather like the Vorlons hiding their appearance on Babylon 5.)
    Because as children, we are all afraid of the dark...!

      The attack on earth wasn't an attempt to win, it was an attempt to create fear and discord. They didn't use the weapons - because they didn't want to give away their ace in the hole and they weren't attempting to destroy earth..just attack it.

Oh yes on one of Admiral Marcus screens .mentions Menk embassy in ST:ID. When Voyager first encountered Species 8472 they compared the hull to Bremen biotech. Bremen suits are refrigeration suites but their planet is temperate. The Breen Confederacy never had formal conflict with the Federation. Pirate attacks are known on the SS Vigo and a Cardassian transport. Breen use disruptor technology like the two Beta Quadrant powers. They seem to have a hate relationship with Romulans as one Dominion prisoner said never turn your back on one and the Breen leader wanted Romulus.

      The ending was meant to be tongue and cheek. I don't sincerely think that's true lore or even plausible lore. I do think that the Breen have had a rocky relationship with the federation - but I honestly don't know if there's exact canon as to why.

    I know speed and distance is not something trek ever liked to keep pined down, but giving the placement of where the Breen come from and the top (safe) speed of the Enterprise NX-01 (warp 5), they would have to had traveled years (in a straight line) to get there, so no the world they visited could not have been the Breen.

    Perhaps the Breen are a race of Valakian/Menk hybrids. They could be the result of forced genetic splicing via utilizing Valakian stem cells to fertilize Menk ovum. The resulting embryonic tissue would then be utilized for further gene therapies. The Valakian would become partially genetically compatible with the Menk. The subsequent forced breeding would eventually result in the Breen. I think the suits are more for the purpose of concealment as the Breen would see themselves as abominations with no real identity byond the heinous acts that led to their existence. Their hatred towards Outsiders could be the result of the Federation officers who set into motion the events that would lead to their existence and the subsequent extinction of there ancestor races. That's my theory at least.

    Just making suggestions is all. I feel these lore channels and I'm referring to many channels, just don't do enough coverage of Klingon, Federation, Federation member states and Romulan battleships and heavy battleships. for instance the Federation Yorktown class heavy battleships served extensively in the Earth/romulan war. the vulcans and andoreans had an impressive lineup of destroyers and battleships, even earth had a few. the federation fielded some of the most powerful battleships in the alpha quadrant. many of those were battlecruiser varients of the explorer ship classes.

    I never really bought that the Breen could have reached Earth at all. How far from Breen space to Earth, 5k, 10k light years. That has got to take a couple weeks especially if the are trying to avoid densely populated areas because they would be trying to be unseen.
    The idea that they would just show up and blast a couple areas is something I just can't wrap my head around.
    If that is all it would take, then planetary defenses would have to be so strong that nothing could get within 5 light years.
    Besides, a really good barrage of nasty torpedoes specially constructed for this suicide mission would have been able to render the planet uninhabitable in about 10 seconds.
    And what about Utopia Planetia. I think I remember something about it being destroyed in this attack, but if not, it would have been a prime target.
    Not just the facilities, but the people that build all the ships. Kill them and it could take years to get things back on track.
    Remember, the attack on Pearl Harbor really didn't harm the US's ability to wager war all that much. The refueling or repair facilities were unharmed, the sub pens were intact and a bunch of really crappy planes were destroyed.
    By the time the battleships were needed, all but two had been repaired.
    I'm sure the Breen would know what to hit and what wasn't a big deal.

    I believe the Breen are not humanoid, a collective consciousness of bugs or a gas perhaps, they just inhabit humanoid suits as that's how they interact with the rest of the galaxy. Their speech and their non-symmentrical ships show their culture or perception of reality is different from everyone else. Universal translators can learn languages on-the-fly, but not Breen; they have to be updated as if it can't be learned. A language that can't be introspected comes from having a very different view of the universe.

    The Breen's attack on Starfleet HQ could be equivalent to Germany's Blitz on British Cities.
    It is kind of weird how they suddenly attacked StarFleet HQ and yet their were no ships that were in Earth's orbit which could have stopped them before they reached Earths orbit.
    21st century anti-terrorist operators would have stopped them sooner because it was basically a terror attack.

    • @LoreReloaded
      @LoreReloaded  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
