Yes, and unfortunately the Grizzlies knew he was better than JaMorant ‼️ Grizzlies couldn’t have Morant loosing like the star media saying he is‼️He’s Dad was the glove, in the NBA….. He was going to expose Morant .
He played such a good series and was such a contributor to the Dubs winning the chip. Crazy that he spent so long in the G league. Just goes the show really how talented you have to be to get in the NBA. Excited to see what he does this next season.
this man Gary Payton ll is criminally underrated and warriors know how to lift these guys up and develop their game aswell. Warriors scouting is one of the best if not the best in the league. they got jordan poole and turned him into a superstar. they managed to steal kuminga and moody and now have scouted payton ll.
In a team full of firepower, a defensive menace is a joy to watch. He is a reminder that perseverance, hardwork and belief in yourself are the keys to success.
GPII has something his dad didn't have, vert. I mean GPI could barely get above the rim at 6'4". At 6'3" GPII is doing reverse dunks in traffic. Blocking shots above the rim. I'm really excited to see where this goes.
It really is exciting to watch. When is the last time ANYBODY was excited to watch defense. His allyoop ability is insane, after all the man is only 6'2". He kinda reminds me of Popeye, whoopin Brutis' behind after downing a can of spinach. Lol....
So glad to have this man back, hopefully he makes a big impact like he did last year with the team and help us get our back to back championship! 🙏🏽💪🏽🏆
This is in part the reason I believe the media has been exaggerating Draymond Green's absence. Don't get me wrong: Draymond Green has high basketball I.Q. and is Golden State's best all around defender. His value however comes from his experience playing with Steph and Klay. It's not that they were/are in trouble without him. Golden State Warriors were doing pretty well in the beginning of his absence, but when Andre Iguodala didn't return to the line up due to back issues, as well as brief stints from Otto Porter Jr, and the "thief" Gary Payton II would not play, that's when Golden State started their losing streak. It's not just the absence of Draymond Green; it's the absence of Andre Iguodala--one of their best perimeter defenders, and Gary Payton II, their best on-ball defender, and Otto Porter Jr. one of their best shot blockers.
Nah, its Draymond's passing coupled with his defense thats what is talked about. If you're the main option AND the ball handlers, y ou're gonna suffer. Case and point Steph without someone like Poole or Draymond, and Butler last season. Some part of the game suffers without the reliable ball handler option.
This time I agree with you on every single point. Man it's soooo fantastic for me to watch Payton's defense. I mean I see that guy and it's like is one of the best teammates you could have because he is never selfish to get buckets he just want to help from he knows how to do.
GP2 better make all defensive this year. I'm a 80s 90s guy so I LOVE watching defense, sometimes even more than offense depending on the team or player. And we'll, watching Payton brings back memories lol.
This is the reason the guy on the Grizz hurt him on purpose during their 2nd round match-up. He's such a difference maker for the DUBZ and a pain in the behind for the opposing team. Mind you, I'm a Los Lakers fan since 82.
Bro the intro had me weak 🤣🤣. Great vid wit straight facts. Mans be on a mission and I live how nothin phases him. Kinda remind me of Ron Artest. Just without the trash talk. That's why Artest became World Peace.
Kerr is a madman he said "he rather ket joka score 42points with 12 assist rather than double team him" 🤔 but yall saw how effective it was in the 4th quarter when they double team him
Consider how many teams he's been to and he wanted GSW so badly that would accept a video coordinator job in order to stay, says a lot about the organization
Made me really sad to see how his dad did him but I went through the same sh** with my dad just made me stronger in the end He's such a powerhouse player just reminds me of myself altogether so determined and Relentless to keep going congratulations Payton I really hope to see you play oneday 🥰💛💛💛
GP2 defense is like my habit on court in my first time in basketball competition i use it to make my enemies afraid and to give them an intense focus on how they make move
A perfect example of great player not being utilized by the league. Gp was integral part of a championship win and I hope he signs long term with the warriors

Give the man his flowers Defensive player of the year in the league his accolades speaks two times Pac 12 defensive player of the year him n the glove at least one
I play pretty good defense myself and i do the samething, really all it is to is you have to launch for the ball as soon as the dribbler drop it for a bounce... but you have to be quick💡
Love it man! Liked seeing the old man GP1 involved, he must be really proud. I absolutely love it when a player gets rejected time after time, and then blossoms the way this young man has, and with a championship caliber team. It reminds me of Kadarius Toney, after not being utilized properly by the New York Giants, he literally helps the Kansas City Chiefs win a Superbowl. Love it! He reminds me of Popeye, whoopin Brutis` behind, after downing a can of spinach. 😂😂😂
I was never on this kind of level, but all the tenacity and focus GP2 spends on the defensive end is after my own heart. I always wanted to take down the offensive player and give them nothing. I consistently would pick up the ball well before they crossed half-court, constantly taking chances to strip, slap, or punch the ball away. Picking off a lazy inbounds for a layup was pure joy for me. It’s great to see NBA players embody these defensive principles and use them to put their team in position to win. 👍
Losing him and his defense against Ja Morant definitely hurts in this series. The report is he will be out for a month, hopefully he can come back sooner. If the Warriors can get past Memphis that is
Warriors should definitley sign Payton for a multi-year contract. Opponents are intimidated by GP2. They commit errors whenever he is beside them. He is definitely an ASSET to the Team. Best defensive Guard. He takes away the points of the opponent. Also he seldom makes mistake
sad to say, GSW released him for 3M difference contract value against Portland.. Dirk before agreed to reduced his contract amount in favor to C. Parson just to retain on the team. Such act should do the same by combination or sharing of 2 or 3 highest GSW player. Then they'll say that they don't want to lost him and they really need him on the team?? a holly molly cow!
I said after they traded him the warriors would lose 25% of their games compared to the previous year. I was wrong GSW defense was doing even worse than that. Everyone came for me in the comments like GP2 is a non-factor clearly those people don't know basketball. Defense wins Championships. Warriors open court and on-ball defense is abysmal this year. If it wasnt for Donte and Kuminga stepping up they'd have ZERO road wins this year.
You saying how the hell did Drummond get on this list is crazy to me because if you watch he always gets a steal sometimes multiple. He’s way more active than people give credit, best back up center in the league
He’s a starting center playing back up. He was leading the league in rebounding a few years ago. His abysmal free throw shooting and perimeter game has caused his value to drop drastically.
a very effective defensive key is to lower your stance than the offensive player which is had the ball.. it means in laymans term.. you have to have a lower body agility and perfect balance while side lateral sprint and hands coordination with eye elite court vision.
This is why I prefer defensive players more than offensive ones. Offensive players only need to focus on their own ability to score. I thought I was the only one. I could hear my coach saying defense wins game. Plus that’s easy 2 pts 👑💯
The brutal dunks he gives us are also a plus! This man is a monster!!!!
The one thing he has over his dad. 👋

I bet daddy Gary senior must be proud of him.
Gp2 thank u for not giving up. Your a joy seeing you play, especially stealing the ball from those big guys.

2:30 shows the determination and grind it takes for primarily defensive players in the league.
