He's the lob target like Javale was a few years ago.
Defenders either don't block him out, or can't block him out. But GP2 is a cheat code two way player.
GP2 a defensive MONSTER… not just that, the guy got BOUNCE for only being 6’3. Warriors need to give him a longer contract so he can continue to grow under Steve Kerr. He’s 29, but he’s healthy and got a good future as a Warrior ahead of him if he continues to play like this.

It really speaks to the nurturing culture of the Warriors. They take these players that no one wants and turns them into beasts on the court.
Facts
This guy is one of my favorite players. He is 100% hustle and truly makes the difference on the GS squad of why they are at the top of the league right now. Every team has superstars. Steff is having an mvp season but GP2 helps to make all of the stars lives easier and they don’t have to work as hard. He does most of the grunt work. Defending the opposing teams best players from 1-3. Taking charges, diving for loose balls. The guy does everything high level except for his jump shooting. He runs the point well, can pass, doesn’t turn the ball over alot, can finish well, plays above the rim, can rebound better than 90% of the guards out there, one of the best defenders in the league. He just is not a knock down shooter but has gotten better from the three point line, which makes him super dangerous. He is an awesome fit for GS. If they stay healthy, only Phoenix can give them a run in the playoffs
Another example of how an "average" player gets polished to shine in there greatness with the Warriors. I luv it when GPII hits the floor - his energy brings the whole crowd up + you know he's gonna posterize someone!! Praying he continues to grow with the Warriors and they get this man a long contract with more 💰 bc he deserves it 🤟
Starting to love GP2 for the Dubs he is making his own Name in the NBA God bless for him.

Not hard to believe, let's remember his Father was a SAVAGE on defense, and y'all don't think Gary Sr. didn't teach his son lock down defense in privacy.
No doubt his dad was giving advice whether he wanted it or not.
And he is playing even better. On 12/23, 2 days after this video, in addition to his stellar defense, GP2 had 22 points on 9-16 FG shooting including 4-7 3P! He made a much-needed 3P dagger late in the 4th.
The dubs know how to utilize players. There is always the right tool for the right job.
I love watching GPII play because he hustles. He plays 110% every time! That Warriors coaching staff has a way of unlocking a player's potential.

GP2 has been amazing since this season started. He is a beast both defensively and offensively. I love the dude, and I wish him a prosperous career onwards.
The Curry-GP2 pairing Kerr just pulled out versus MEM is how you make a "small" backcourt lineup work - with defense.
*GARY PAYTON II* is *AMBIDEXTROUS* because while he shoots with his lelf hand and can lay up either, he writes with his right hand.

Rapidly become one of my favourite players in the league. Something spectacular always happens when Kerr puts him the game. There have been multiple times where there have been 5-7 seconds left in a quarter and Kerr puts him in and he gets the stop. He also has really great chemistry with Draymond and Iggy.

GP2 just posted his season high of 22 points vs MEM. And he's hitting timely 3's as well.
GPII - one of my favorite players since he popped into the Bright Lights. The confidence, attention to detail and high motor always gets my attention. The Toronto game looked like he's settling into his Full Package version hitting those 3s. Not a 2-way player...GPII is 3-way 🙀💙(As a petite person I always support fellow "petites" who use the "disadvantage" to motivate to the highest self. 💙💫💛
A world-class defender: smart, athletic, and unstopped motor. GP2 also provide two lethal offensive options to the ball handler. He is one of the key reasons that Warriors has the best defense and best record in the league this season.

I love everything that has been described about him here. He is a beast, but one of the things that I love the most about him is his humility, sportsmanship or camaraderie. If you watch him closely, if any fan, teammate or anyone on the opposite team doesn't like him, it is their problem, because he is one of the most kind people I have seen in the NBA.

The WARRIORS Team is a great star-maker. Join Warriors and you'll be a basketball star. Take advantage of the other team's occupation of Steph Curry and you can make some good play with your name on it. Steve Kerr is making good use of his players, their strengths and powers in point. All the five players against the Warriors in the court are worried about Steph. Their attention is out and away from the other Warriors. It is time to shine with Curry leading the way. Just like what the other coach has said, "take Curry out of the play and nothing of that sort happens".

There is something about those Warriors. Insert some other team's castoff and the Warrior Machine puts out an incredible man and turns him into an amazing player - this team cultivates the exceptional quality of each player and harnesses it into the team concept. This team expects and demands high ability and composure and gets each guy to make the other team pay. This guy is fast and deadly - he can go end to end from defense to offense and makes a team pay for its mistakes. You cannot have enough players with his heart and ability. I respect him so much I'll never abbreviate him - he is GARY PAYTON II. Honor his with no less. CP3 is now washed up and deserves being some slang name. Gary Payton II deserves nothing less than spending the time to say his whole name. Give the MAN his RESPECT!

Essentially, GP2 is a cheat code for defense.Just having GP2 and Draymond in the same roster is just unfair and suffocating. Not only that but they can be both terrifying defensively (GP2, Dray) and offensively (literally the whole bench).
And they also have Wiggins, Klay and Andre. Looney, Porter and Curry are also playing very good defense. That's why they're rating number 1 in defense.
Add Klay and Wiggins back, and hopefully get a Wiseman with decent rim protection... I can see greatness in just the defense alone.
@@sleeksilve2 Andre is still a staunch defender in shorter spurts, Porter has been very good, Toscano is tenacious, Kuminga has a lot to learn but has great talent....up and down the roster they are about as good as it gets.
