    The old PS4 Gold Headset (it’s called a headset) sounds fine for video games and movies and the 3D audio works as well as the PS4 Platinum Headset but the Platinum Headset does have superior sound quality over the Gold Headset as the Platinum Headset has 50mm drivers vs. the Gold Headset’s 40mm drivers but the sound quality is good on both headsets for games and video. There is a noticeable difference with the Platinum Headset having a more detailed, clearer sound and the bass is definitely heavier. My main problem with the Gold headset is the wireless connection is not near as stable and seems to not reach as far as the Platinum headset. Like I could turn my head away from the tv and it would lose connection on the Gold Headset. I could have a faulty dongle for my Gold Headset but it really is annoying. It’s a shame because the Gold Headset really does sound good for a being a base model and is more comfortable than the Platinum Headset IMO but that wireless connection is awful. Also both of them should not be used as stereo headphones for music as they both do not perform well in that area (despite what the advertisement says) so don’t expect to be blown away by using them for music but the 3D audio truly enhances games and you can hear details that you wouldn’t notice when playing without them.
    I was kind of taken back when so many people thought that 3D audio was this revolutionary thing for PS5 when we have had it for years on PS4 but my assumption is that Sony will really push it for PS5 and hopefully developers will support it more widely than on PS4. What I mean by that is all games do support 3D audio on PS4 but most of them are reliant on a uniform pre-set audio mode whereas only a handful of titles like Red Redemption II had custom audio modes developed by Rockstar specifically for that game. God of War is another example of having a custom audio mode and it truly is fantastic. So that’s what I mean by developers supporting the Pulse 3D with custom audio for most games of not all games. It seems like Sony is really trying to push this again so hopefully that comes to pass because 3D audio is truly a game enhancer and it’s to closest thing I can imagine to what it would be like playing a game in a theater would sound like. Also they both have a built in mic that perform well enough but not as clear as a headset with a boom mic. I will also note that Steel Series makes some amazing headsets for both PS4 and Xbox One that are just as good if not better in sound quality but they are pricier so I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to headsets (and most other things).
    On the side note I will mention for XBoxOne owners that XBox does have brand name headset but it is wired and does not feature 3D Audio although it sounds surprisingly well for how cheap it is (I got mine for like $50 at Best Buy) but know it is only capable of stereo audio. If you want something close to 3D audio then you need to get a Steel Series set like the Arctis 9x (which is a fantastic headset I should note) or the Razer Thresher or Razer Nari, the latter featuring haptics so it’s like having Rumble in a headset. I can’t imagine I would tolerate haptics for longer gaming sessions so I went with the Razer Thresher which is basically the Nari without haptics. They are both pricey options though but they both offer a 3D audio-like or should I say, spatial audio experience.
    So that is my long take on my experience with last-gen headsets that offer spatial audio. I just wanted to let people know that it’s not something new being done for PS5 only and people with a PS4 or XBoxOne can experience the same thing being touted as revolutionary for PS5.
    Apple just released spatial audio support for their AirPod Pros and with that so many people think it’s this new revolutionary thing that Apple invented but it’s been around for awhile now. There is even an official Sony Gold Headset for PS3 that offers 3D audio which I would like to get my hands on eventually before I can’t find them anymore but as you can tell I’m already broke from the numerous headsets I have accumulated so far. 😜

      You are right and thank you for your comment ! On the other hand, the PS5 and Xbox Series X have much better sound quality. On this side, the PS4 and the XOne were a regression after the big jump with the PS3 / X360. The CPU of these consoles were too low to allow a new leap in quality in terms of sound quality ( music and sound design ).
      So I think that's why Sony is talking about it even more with the PS5 (sorry for my bad English ...)
      EDIT : A summary translation via Google Translate of this part of a very interesting article in French:
      " This is where one of the most astonishing remarks in the presentation of the PlayStation came from: the confession by Mark Cerny that, in his opinion, the PlayStation 4 was a regression in terms of l 'audio compared to the PlayStation 3. The unique architecture of the PS3 Cell, with its seven "co-processors", allowed developers to assign one of these units to the audio, and to implement with a lot of efficiency of surprisingly sophisticated treatments. Conversely, it is now common knowledge that the main weakness of the PS4 - like the Xbox One - is its anemic CPU, based on the Jaguar architecture of AMD initially designed for low-power laptops. A weakness forcing developers to make drastic compromises, from which the audio has often suffered: limitation of the number of sound events that can occur simultaneously, very approximate spatialization effects ... Yet this goes against s ens of the evolution of the games themselves: in the ultra-rich and sophisticated open virtual worlds such as we know how to produce them today, it would be logical for the soundscape to show the same sophistication, and to suggest to the player all the sound elements that inhabit it. "

    The pulse is only an upgrade from the golds.
    Platinums are still the best.
    This is just a cheap headset with 3d audio so that "everybody" has a headset with 3d audio. It incentivizes developers to actually put 3d audio into their games.

    • @TheRandomVaper
      @TheRandomVaper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3D is done in the engine ON the PS5. It has nothing to do with the actual headset. Any headset can use 3d audio when hooked up to the Ps5

    • @Bradley_Warren
      @Bradley_Warren 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheRandomVaper You understand how software works? It requires support from the headphones. Yes all audio comes from the processor obviously, but that doesn't transmit into your brain. 3d audio is like a cheap trick to give people the feeling of good surround sound. Basically all modern headsets will do fine, but some will still be nicer. Example the pulse 3d vs the golds. The pulse would be what I would recommend on a budget, but don't just throw out your old headset to get them because like you said they will work fine.
      For higher end I would say get 7.1 surround sound like the platinums or any other preferred headset.
      You can hear the difference on the platinums if you use 3d audio or not. They have a switch to turn it on and off. If it had nothing to do with the headsets software then that switch would do absolutely nothing.

    • @TheRandomVaper
      @TheRandomVaper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bradley_Warren No it doesn't. Any headphones work with the tempest engine, the same way dolby atmos works with any headphones on windows after you install the atmos software. You are trying to argue about stuff you clearly don't understand.

      @@TheRandomVaper Explain the 3d audio switch on the platinums. How does it affect the sound if the headphones have nothing to do with the 3d audio lol. Obviously the switch is affecting the audio output which would mean it is being controlled by the headset. It is not like that switch is deciding what information is sent from the playstation. It decides what information it interprets. One person can have it on while the other has it off on the same console. If it was from the console only the platinums could not have a switch to turn it on or off.

    • @TheRandomVaper

      @@Bradley_Warren Its on there because they were made for the ps4, and the ps4 didn't have the Tempest 3d audio engine or any similar tech.

    Nice impressions. The Platinums are a bit different. In that they have 50mm drivers vs 40mm on the Pulse 3D & PS4 Golds. Also they are the only Headphones to work with 3D audio on the PS4 (even if it's only 4 or 5 games), as well as supporting 7.1 VSS on PS4 (which the old Golds did). The Pulse 3D is just a stereo headset because the PS5 does all the Tempest 3D encoding for any headphones over USB or the 3.5mm Dual Sense audio jack. My guess is the Pulse 3D is the old PS4 Gold headset but with the updated look and no VSS encoding for PS4.
    The Platinum should be a better headset, due to supporting VSS/3D on PS4 and the larger 50mm drivers which have more bass and clarity. And will work with PS5. One possible advantage for the newer headset is Sony has designed those 5 HRTF Profiles with the Pulse in mind. But I think better headphones should be more noticeable than the 3D audio profiles.
    Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on both once hooked up to the PS5.
