This is a great review! I would like to share some anecdotal experiences with ALL three (should pin this comment to help with future viewers😀) :
I will start off by saying right off the bat that the PS4 Platinum is superior to both. I first had the Gold headset and it was fine, nothing to complain about but then I upgraded to the Platinum headset and noticed a HUGE difference right off the rip. Once you enable the VSS/3D audio by a flick of the switch, your game will sound better and more realistic no matter what game it is and the VSS aspect works WONDERS in shooters making it easy to locate where shots and especially where footsteps are coming from. That is the main reason why they’re better because the VSS/3D are a massive upgrade and since the drivers from the Platinum are bigger, the sound just sounds better not because I “think” it does, because it actually does. So the Gold headset works very well and sounds good if you don’t wanna fork up more money.
Now comparing those to the PS5 Pulse 3D, I still think the PS4 Platinums are clear. Even though homeboy says the ps5 designed ones are better for the ps5, I’d like to respectfully disagree (because at the time he posted the video this next information/update wasn’t a thing). This is because the PS5 had an update to have any headset you use utilize it’s 3D audio with any headset within the audio settings, the Platinums can use it’s VSS/3D audio as intended AND while having bigger drivers, it sounds better and more clear than the pulse 3D. I also did tests comparing the Platinum vs the Pulse 3D and the platinums do a better job while in vss/3D audio mode because they don’t sound muffled whereas the Pulse 3d do (ok maybe not “muffled” per se, but definitely not as good as the Platinums when both are in the vss/3D audio setting). So since the ps5 update in September 2021, the PS4 Platinum headset are better to use on the PS5 than the actual PS5 designed headset.
In conclusion, if you CAN afford the PS4 Platinum headset you definitely should as they sound the best and will now perform the best out of these three ( and honestly in my experience better than the Astro a40s and 50s). Better vss/3D, better build quality, bigger drivers for better sound, can be folded to take on the go with the included pouch to connect to phone or laptop for a decent sounding music headset (since Sony is also great at making speakers and headset specifically for music) it’s a no brainer.

Nice review, i already own the ps 4 Gold headset and would like to know how they really compare soundwise when used on ps 5.
Would it be worth the upgrade? Or is the difference minor enough to save the money.
If you have the PS5 then I would say you would benefit from the PS5 headset considering it is built for the 3D audio of the PS5 but if you are looking to save money the gold headset will do just fine!
I STILL use the OG gold wireless headset(uncharted edition) and it STILL sounds amazing to me. Even more so with the 3D audio implementation.

This video doesn't really give me the information i need to decide which to buy, as it's mostly your subjective opinion. What's 7.1 virtual audio compared to 3d audio? Do the pulse 3d one's carry over all of the functionality of the platinum wireless? Can you make adjustments for either/both in the console? What games support 3d audio currently? Do so games support 7.1 virtual surround? If the game doesn't have 3d audio, does the 3d audio features of the new headset mimic the virtual 7.1?

I have the new Gold Headphones the 2nd generation ones with 3D audio, I been using it with my PS5 and the 3D sound sounds amazing only issue I have is well streaming my voice is to low! Even raising the volume on the PS5 settings it’s still way to low but when I use the 3mm wire and not the Bluetooth you can hear me fine but I lose the 3D audio. Was wondering if the PS5 Pulse headphones 🎧 work good well streaming especially well on Bluetooth.
For myself I do not stream with the pulse 3D headset but my friends who I play with have said that my microphone sounds much better since I switched to the pulse 3D so I would assume that it would improve for that as well! If you do get it let me know how it works out!

both headset capable to produce 3D audio that make you can tell if enemy on top or below (not all games but uncharted 4 i confirmed)

Actually, the pulse 3D is Made using tempest audio like the ps5. Unlike the platinum.

Imo the Platinum are the best, I have all 3, the Pulse 3D are a great choice for those who don’t want to spend $200 for a headset. If you have the money, the platinum is the better choice they sound better and feel really good.

I would take the pulse 3D or the platinum. I used to use the platinum for pc then it broke so I now use the pulse 3D

On PS4 grab the Platinum as it has larger drivers which provide better sound. Although, for PS5 grab the Pulse 3D as they are built for tempest audio which is a new audio system the PS5 uses which the PS4 does not.

I've had the platinums for a while now and have loved them. Though I recently got a PS5 so should I get the pulse 3d or should I stick with the platinums?
I love both of them. If you want the absolute best for PS5 then get the pulse 3d as they are tailored for it. Although, the only reason I got them was because I broke my platinums.

Psvr has built in ear buds that work fine....why add more to your head. Yes, i played psvr and its amazing as well as the sound from those earbuds included.

I would say the Pulse 3D would be better for footsteps as it is build for 360 degree 3D audio!

Yes they are heavier but that is actually because the Platinum's have larger drivers which does provide better sound. Meanwhile, the Pulse 3D's are built with tempest 3D audio just like the PS5 unlike the PS4. That is why I recommend the Platinum's for PS4 users and the Pulse 3D's for PS5 users.

Yes the Platinum has 3D audio including 7.1 VSS. Believe me both are great. On PS4 grab the platinum's!

I tried using the pulse 3d headset on ps3 it doesn't really work, might need to check again, but the gold wireless headset will definitely work on the ps3 so to me the gold is worth it, maybe handle it with care coz my gold wireless Bluetooth doesn't work, I only had it for a year and half

I would say they all have good bass but either the platinums or the new pulse 3D’s in my opinion.

You failed to talk about the gold and platinum headset companion app which makes the gold and especially the platinum sound so much better sounding. I prefer the Platinum for sure.
That is true for ps4 yes. Although that is not available on the ps5 but yes the platinums do sound amazing.

On ps5 the pulse has something like that in the menu, you can adjust the sound but only for that headset
You fail to mention that the pulse 3d audio only works on ps5 whereas the platinums support 3d audio on certain games. So if you're on ps4 platinums are the best option. Plus the platinums have bigger drivers than the pulse 3d headset
