From what I heard on the WAN Show, they would love to do that but the issue is they'd have to use different plastic material which wouldn't be as strong as the original one
Jake actually had a transparent one in a vid at one point, they seem to be working on it, just that it’s a completly different plastic so they need completly different moulds.

I did actually spend the extra to build my own at LTX. Kinda stupid, but also very unique and fun at the same time. From getting to meet the team who's obviously proud of developing all those machines to put them together, to have a wild Linus appear at the both and give a thumbs up and "nice" at the colour combination I've chosen was worth it!

I work a maintenance job and love the long shaft. It sits in my back pocket all day. Having 13 bit option and being able to reach in an awkward place and have the back drag be so light it can start threading in even tiny screws is a game changer. I have no use for the short one but reccomend the hell out of the screwdriver if you daily use one. You dont understand until you use it.
yeah, its insane how good it actually is. I actually enjoy assembling furniture and stuff now.
I have used to assemble everything from car speakers and kids toys to swing sets and trampolines.
it lives on my desk and whenever anything home maintenance related needs to be done its strait into the pocket with the 13 bits.
its the only screwdriver I have ever had where I actually end up using the built in bit storage and not be lazy and end up loosing half the bits. all the other ones have all been 'they all rattle around in the back with a very cheap screw on cap' or 'they go in around the shaft in holes that are to small so impossible to get in and out or to big so bits just fall out' setups.
@@htr5372 on the contrary, I have used much more expensive screw drivers, but they tend to not have bit storage, at least not ones that are readily available here in Australia.
Hell, while ratcheting screwdrivers do exist here, nearly all of them are the cheap crappy ones. have not actually seen a 'premium' one on a shelf.
even a lot of the more expensive non ratcheting screwdrivers that have bit storage fall into that category of the bit storage being an afterthought and being annoying to use. not only is this solution easy, it is also satisfying which makes me more likely to use it.
believe me, I am no fanboy, this screwdriver is the only piece of 'merch' I have ever owned and that's not just from LTT or other youtubers, that also includes from bands (assuming you don't count CD's as merch) or football teams etc.
don't get me wrong, there are things that could be better. for one, looking at it I am sure they could have fit a full 12 normal bits in if they made a few small optimisations in the top cap, and base of the mechanism and also removed that redundant bit separator (the little black piece that stops the bits sliding up and down between the slots) as the top section and bottom section can rotate independently, you can just align them so they don't line up to stop the bits.
also, not a huge fan of the in-out play in the shaft, but as the only time you notice it is when you are actively looking for it, its not really a problem.

My dad was a mechanic for the over 40 years. He mocked the full sized screwdriver costs but I let him try it out. He lamented that it was as good as it was and available now after he retired. He and I agree that it is about $10 USD more BUT for a good warranty and solid driver, worth it.
I ordered him a Stubby the day of. When I saw the colorful options, I ordered him a Yellow one and a Random one for myself.
ALSO: RGB Edition is a good name and PLEASE PLEASE do a Noctua Stubby.

@@Innuya I don't think pigments added to plastics generally are based on combinations of CMYK primaries either.
In a mechanic setting I would hate the LTT driver. It's solid plastic handle would have zero grip when you have grease on your hands. It's built well but definitely not for less than ideal environments
@@MrDummyisDumb That's been my experience with it as well. It's well-built but for something that's going to need to take abuse or needs to actually be torqued down just get a MegaPro. Ideally though I'd love a MegaPro but with the ratcheting mechanism LMG iterated on.
@@EkiToji A hybrid or more heavy duty one would be incredible and for a non tool manufacturer I just want to add it's amazing what they've achieved. But at least in my use rn it's too much on the white collar side to really be used in a blue collar space
I for some reason thought you guys were gonna do the same price for this as the standard size. $10 less seems totally reasonable considering where the cost is.
Given what inflations been like I could've seen them doing the same thing as they did with blank tees, using the slightly cheaper one to subsidise/avoid price hikes on the full size driver.
Alternatively they could've also justified it the same way they do with water bottles, and desk pads. That is you choose the size you want and don't have to pay a premium for wanting a bigger screwdriver.
But this would've likely have led to controversy and it feeling like price gouging/profiteering. People will be a lot more receptive to the message there's not much cost difference between the two if it also comes with a price drop. It's unfortunate that product launch order affects consumer perception so much
Absolutely, I know 100% they’ll be making less gross margin per stubby. Still profitable, but less margin/profit
@@liammiller3688 it is one of the best performing ratcheting screwdrivers on the market, (see Project Farm, and Jeff Geerlings reviews). They're not the best value but they're not competing in the value market, it's a premium tool and you pay for that.
The shipping is a problem but there is nothing they can do, they're a very small manufacturer and you're going to pay a premium for that and that comes in the form of shipping

Yes, it is expensive for a screwdriver. But considering its not a consumable, its something you would keep for decades. Its not like you are buying it even year. So its not that much of a waste of money as people are stating

I've been anxiously waiting for this. I work on cars a lot and the full size one is fantastic working on interiors especially, except from day one I wished for a stubby. So many places it was too long and I had to use regular stubby screw drivers. The second I seen this video I opened another window and ordered one as the video was starting. Thank you so so much for making a stubby. I know without a doubt it will get as much or more use than the full size one.
Solid bright colours are a great option to prevent the screw driver being lost in dark places when being used in practical maintenance related jobs. Hopefully the stubby will be given the same option!

The square bit on my full size was super useful when I repaired my dryer. I’m glad it’s included on the full size.

Yep, I’m one of those people that had their LTT screwdriver confiscated. I went through TSA a few times before it was caught. Had to hand it over since I didn’t have time to take it back to my car. Hard lesson learned that day.
good time to remind people that the TSA is security theater. It would solve this problem if we just got rid of the TSA
check the bag I had a snap on rachet and extension so about $300 from MI to TX non issue from TX to Panama they were like yeah thats a weapon.... so I had my carry on checked

I preordered two of the original and don't plan on getting any colored versions, but if you guys ever do release the wood version, even for a massive up charge, I'll be first in line.
I think a missed opportunity was to develop some kind of extension bit that instantly converts the stubby into full length so you don't need both.

This is vastly available online and in every hardware store. Unless you buy both which I guess is what they intended.
The biggest problem I would see would be stability of the shaft. The longer the shaft the more wobbly the endpoint. It is a screwdriver after all. However I wonder what that would look like?

Linus can you make a longer extension shaft with a hex end to fit in the stubby bit holder so that you can have the best of both? It could also be used on the standard length one when you need a bit more reach.
exactly why not make it that it can be adjustable with a hex extension so it reaches the full length of the normal one and also include all the bits in the box and make it the same price (cause for 10$ more , ppl are still gonna buy the big one as it serves them way more than the small af one since it also comes with more bits and can also store inside more bits ) as the normal one , this small one is useless from my point of view cause try to screw in a motherboard into the case with a big tower cooler already installed it will be a nightmare to reach the 3 top screws of the mobo, honestly on a lot of special occasions i need a screwdriver that is twice the size of the normal one , so on tldr this one is DOA kind of product
@@dragos2010full1 As someone who works on totally different machines than computers sometimes (moving head event lights) I noticed myself grabbing a stubby so often because of how close you are up on the screw and still able to get your full torque in. In this case being closer to the screw also reduces the chances of slipping off of the screw when pressing into it with quite some force as it's easier to keep straight.

I genuinely hope the solid color options do well enough to have a build your own on ltt so some content creators can make their own with their colors in a mini almost collab with ltt. Plus the option for future colors is looking like a serious possibility if they do well enough since I'd do a dark blue and black combo myself. Can't wait to see the future of this screw driver

as an electrician I love the fact that a Square bit was included, but I would love a dedicated set for handyman usage like the Milwaukee ecx/combo bit and a common size allen bit

However, I love my black and orange one with the black shaft, sure the black on the shaft has worn off in places, but it just shows it's a real tool that's being used regularly.
I hope they will sell them as a sets (maybe even with the option to colour customize them; but i am happy if there are some presets) with a slight discount :D
I wonder if the crew is up for making a recycled plastic driver? I think that would be awesome! I've always been a fan of the "speckled" recycled look on tech products and would easily be my preferred way to spend my money on a driver. Not that I wouldn't buy a regular one to begin with lol
their process involves maximum plastic recycling already, with overall minimal losses. aesthetics are not the issue with recycle plastic, physical properties are.

I have the regular screwdriver and as a test engineer it is perfectly useable and has been absolutely wonderful to use. I only just lost my first bit recently, but it was one of the square bits so no lost sleep on that. I am going to be ordering a stubby because I've been in some tight spaces and the extra long shaft hasn't been super convenient.

The magnet tip was included with my full length fidget spinner... err screwdriver.
But I have find it to be pretty redundant as the magnet in the shaft has been powerful enough to pick up odds and ends with any bit.

Got the stubby and made a custom full size driver at LTX this year and thus far both have been great! Stubby fits in my purse super easy and is so handy but the long boi is for sure more useful in most cases. :)
I wish it had a telescoping shaft/shank. I have a DeWalt screwdriver with that feature and it's amazing. It would be perfect for a stubby.
As a Canadian from Toronto. I applaud the inclusion of the Robertson bit. Yes I understand it’s more of a Canadian but can you include a Robertson package or Canadian packaging lol!?!

The LTT screwdriver’s biggest flaw as a PC builder is how thick the handle is, I feel it gets in the way inside tight spaces inside a case.
ifixit’s tool kits make far more sense for the same price & sometimes less just as a toolkit.
Sure not a ratchet mechanism but in terms of sheer productivity & practicality I’ll go with a toolkit over a single $70 screwdriver.
Disagree. I have bigger than average hands and after 5 years of building PCs on the daily I can not use thinner screwdrivers without hurting.
ifixit is great tho, use their tools every day too.
I found that I still use my iFixit tools quite a bit, but anything that I need any kind of torque for, I grab my LTT driver. Not just pc building, but anything that requires a screwdriver. Done car work, audio work, furniture building, I've even repaired random lawn tools.
@@silaboop I’m talking about the size of the handle being too big for PC cases in general, not hands but I do get what you’re saying, I have large hands too so larger handles can feel more comfortable which is why I bought iFixits larger screwdriver handle.

I missed this maybe, but are the mystery colors sold at a discount? i mean it's nice those won't go to landfill, but you should also incentivise the customer to make that decision... i mean, it's not uncommon in the industry, ie. older models of smartphones of unpopular colors get a small but noticeable discount.
It's $10 less than a solid color, but that's still $10 more than normal

I like the mix and match colors. I wish there was a good way to let people know what they were getting ahead of time, though, or at least get to pick the main handle color and randomize the accent colors.

Just ordered one. The other one has served well as an EDC. My only complaint is that they still haven't R&D a compact case for the screwdriver with a built-in holder for all the available bits you can purchase. That'd be sweet. Unlike the average who only uses a flathead or Phillips 99% of the time, I've had to break into all the boxes. Having a uniform case for the brand would be awesome.
I'm excited about the stubby though. There have been a few times when I've needed to use a stubby because the regular one wouldn't fit and had to sideline my LTT screwdriver #sad. Not anymore baby. Anyone looking to make a purchase and can only buy one, buy the stubby for a multitude of reasons.

I will be picking one up to compliment the regular sized one; I frequently find confined spaces I need one for. All I need next is a long and thin bit set for the inevitable recessed screws that seem to be buried deeper than the Balrog in Khazad-dûm.

If you want to wait like 1-5 years for like the exact one of your choosing that's fine. It all depends how much a uniquely ish coloured screw driver matters. For me it was enough for a ticket and 40 minutes of public transit 🚇
Thank god i watched this video. I love my LTT screw driver, but my favorite color has always been purple. Im so happy theres a purple solid color driver. Ive already ordered mine.

Well, there is 1-2 videos + wan shows explaining whole manufacturing and designing process, you can watch and see the reasons. For one, these are relatively small batches, manually assembled.
I am sure there will be 5 more videos about it as well, just to make sure they are squeezing out every ounce of money from it.
They are competing with snap on's stubby driver which is 82 dollars and has no bit storage. LTT's is better or on par at basically every test (Watch project farms video on it) while being 20 dollars cheaper. Its objectively a good product. The fact you think it costs 3-5 dollars a unit is proof enough you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
And Before you call me a fanboy I have not nor do I plan to buy a screw driver. Im just stating objective facts
@@htr5372 Okay so all but 2 of those points you made are explainable with simple human error, People make mistakes. There isn't a person who reviews and tests products who hasn't made mistakes doing so. It happens. Problem is in video format you cant just edit the video after its uploaded.

I have the big snap on screw driver but i like that the LTT stubby has extra bits to hold inside of it unlike snapons so i will be adding it ro work on more airplanes
Still not sure why you would want a magnet bit on a short screwdriver, but included bits are appreciated.

A white body, blue cap with some gray rubber grips insert would be nice (I guess, kinda similar to the Hart branded tools)! I sweat a lot when I work, especially in the palm of my hand, so a rubber grip insert is my preferred "option" in a screwdriver (for example, the "Maximum" branded 13-pcs screwdriver that Canadian Tire sells, it has a nice rubbery finish which makes the screwdriver more "steady" in my hand)
That solid orange driver reminds me of the snap on linus always had in his back pocket (and yes i know the LTT one is based on it)
