Dianna, I am interested in improving my Japanese (I speak and read at the level of about a sixth grader in elementary school after having studied Japanese at university for 1 year about 35 years ago, then living in Japan and raising my 2 kids here and reading all the letters and bulletins, etc., sent home for parents to read from nursery school through university for the past 35 years, while I was always working in the field of publishing American science magazines, and now am pretty much using Japanese only when I have to in daily life (at shops, hospitals, city office, conversations with Japanese neighbors and elderly relatives , etc.). I have time now to work on improving my Japanese so that I would be able toread anything I want to in daily life, and watch any program or news in Japanese that I want to. These are the skills I want to acquire now. My question for you is: is Rosetta Stone a good tool for me to achieve these skills, or is Rosetta Stone targeted at lower level language skills? If you have time, can you please answer this question about your opinion about the usefulness of Rosetta Stone for my specific case? Thanks so much. I enjoy your videos, and learn a lot from them. I think I have probably watched all of your videos .Love, best wishes, and prayers for you and your family.

Jun is knocked out behind you. Minji is so cute. Your husband is practical and supportive. He is right. Relax and enjoy your kids childhood. It goes by really fast and they are going to grow up to be whatever they choose to be. They won’t necessarily remember the science or math, but they will remember the memories you and Henry made with them. Take confidence in the fact that you are a phenomenal mom. Happy Mother’s Day to you.

You all are such a sweet family. I have my MS in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education and truly I believe the best learning for 3 year olds is just to let them play, explore, and to have lots of conversations and verbal interactions. Describe, and talk about the world around them and read with them often. You both seem to be rocking parenting so don’t worry too much.

    • @beautifulandsweet8826

24 year elementary school teacher here. Dianna, your children seem happy and healthy and they get along with one another. The social and emotional education they have received from you and Kyungho tells you that your parenting is on the right track. Trying to keep up with the Joneses (or in this case, the Kims) will only erode your self esteem. My mom was a teacher too. Both my parents were high achievers and my father was a tiger dad. But because my mom was a teacher and knew the value of an even balance between work and play, she was able to reign him in. We were offered opportunities for musical education, dance, swimming, sports, etc. If we chose to participate, great, if not, great. I can say this: I'm 52 and what I remember most fondly about my childhood is not the extracurricular classes I took, it's the time I spent outside playing with my friends and my cousins and I grew up to be a productive member of society. I agree with Kyungho.

  • @rooneylee7824
    @rooneylee7824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +163

I agree with Kyungho's point of view in terms of education. I believe there are other important values that kids must learn in their age growing up other than just academics. I would recommend you to give Jun and Minji opportunities to learn and engage in sports activities such as swimming, taekwondo, soccer, and T-ball. From sporting activities, they will naturally instill important values of their lives such as teamwork, collaboration, cooperation, and perseverance.
Also, I like how your mother in law is taking care of you and showing her love towards you. You've got a great mother in law whom you can rely on. And in terms of speaking Korean, I don't think your Korean pronunciation is bad at all. I would say just be more confident and try to speak more Korean when you can. It will help your Korean improve gradually and steadily.

I would add that you have to remember how hard you try to get the kids to promise to stay little and cute, they eventually grow up. It seems I blinked my eyes and now all of mine are too busy for Mom and Dad...

Dianna girl, your hubby is right! Give the kids a little space to breathe. Enjoy them NOW when they're much smaller and establish that foundation of love and trust. Everything will work out in due time. Also, have a road map for your children...say, the next 5 years or so...Where do you see them? Try to see if you can draw out those abilities or natural talents from them and start nurturing them. I could only say so much but I'm totally with Henry on this one. Beautiful vlog as always!!

I made sure they had fun in the summer and they studied hard during the school year without pressure. They knew what was required and they did well. You don't want your kids to resent you.

When Dianna slipped in the snow Mum in law would have picked her up if she hadn't sprung up herself so quickly, she was concerned that Dianna's shoes didn't have enough grip and told Kyungho to buy her a new pair, that was sweet 😀 Kyungho wants the children to have a happy childhood without the pressure he feels Dianna had growing up, he's has a valid point, the children are already bilingual how many of their peers can say that? They will do well in their studies because they have loving, supportive parents who expose them to as many activities and experiences as they can. Going to the US in the winter would be nice, the children have already spent summer there, to see what winter is like there would be good especially if mum in law goes too.

Concerning bringing up the kids by Tiger mum & dads I take a leaf from my grandmother. She said to me " always choose a middle ground in every thing you do in life" & never on the extreme right or left so find a middle point. Not too pushy or too relaxed on the kids but maintain a sensible balance between studying and playtime.

Dianna, you talked about your own growing up as one with very high expectations. Allowing your children to experience the world through play is amazing. An early researcher in child development (Piaget) said that the work of childhood is play. Having expectations for the children in terms of learning is important, but don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Enjoy their toddlerhood. It seems like you are doing your best. Also, about your own childhood, mine was similar and reading alone I my room was my norm. Proud of you for gaining more skiLls in learning Korean, just keep practicing and your pronunciation will improve as you go along. You have an incredibly supportive husband who sees your hard work, start listening to his loving support in a real way, taking it in and letting it encourage and build you up. Blessings…

The mispronunciation and everything else comes with learning a second language. The more you speak it, the more your pronunciation and grasp of the language becomes. I speak some Spanish, very little German and French, and have realized the more I speak the languages, the better I get. Never feel less than! You are an awesome mom. I wish I could move to Korea. The kids are so adorable and it’s fun watching them…I always think to myself that they should have their own tv show and it could be called The Adventures of Minji and Jun - that sounds so cute and is fitting for them - it could be educational programming for the kids in Korea. Tbh it’s a relief to watch your family. You guys speak to each other with respect and you try your best to be supportive as husband and wife and have calm discussions about how to raise the kids. I know it may not always be that way BTS but thank you for putting something positive out onto the world. Some ppl lose all decorum and put out the worse examples - I guess cautionary stories are needed too but there should be boundaries about how much to share. Thank you for thinking of your viewers and trying to bring the best content.

Hi Dianna …Henry has a lot of wisdom regarding tiger mom behavior…he’s right…there’s lots of time for those stuff…let them enjoy you and their childhood …and let us hear your Korean sometimes…to you it doesn’t sound good but that comes from the perfectionism mindset that your dad raised in you…(and I think I know what caused him to be like that) don’t be so hard on yourself you’ll stress out yourself and be critical….you don’t have to be perfect…you’re real and that’s the beauty of your style.. I don’t want you to have a breakdown over agonizing that you’re not achieving the goals you set ….they’ll be fine…just give them love..they’re smart and polite and funny … parenting is never easy so pray for wisdom so you raise well balanced kids with good character with affection and decency and secure in who they are…those go a long way and are formed early….the academia will come in due season. Love you Dianna…from a grandma ❤️❤️🇯🇲 you have a lovely mother in law…she’s always looking out for you…new shoes cause you fell….so sweet…

Comparison is a thief of joy.😇I agree with Kyungho, you’re doing amazing with the kids already Dianna❤️They grow up so quickly and all children really want is just the quality time, yes learning is essential and best taught when young but at 3 it’s perhaps a bit too much. You’ve got this mama, let the kiddies be. There is still ample time for the serious academics, putting too much strain on them to constantly learn and not be kids at this age might embed trauma to constantly want to please you as parents(obsessive perfectionism)in the future irrespective of the decisions they make(career wise)❤️ thank you for yet another great vlog!

Dianna, it does not matter if your pronunciation of words in Korean is not perfect the more you speak it the more it gets better. I speak another another language but because I learnt it as an adult and do not speak it every day my pronunciation is not always great but when I get an opportunity to speak I do not care as long as the person I am speaking to understands. I think it is important to introduce children to activities but life skills are far more important at that age. When I did my rotation in a nursery school when I was training to be a Speech Therapist, children of Minji and Jun's age group were taught attention skills, turn taking, please and thank you, playing, but tidying up after they finish, sharing, putting their jacket and hats on, learning to take responsibilities of certain tasks in the classroom. there are a lot of science activities you can do outside especially in the parks of green areas. You just have to be creative (look for fun education activities - age appropriate).

Dianna you are doing great with your Korean. Please don't be embarrassed about how you speak Korean, you are definitely going to have an accent when you speak it because it isn't your native language. But im impressed at your effort and you understand it as well. So please, don't be embarrassed, your interactions and Korean is wonderful!

You guys are doing a phenomenal job as parents. As teachers, we just push our kids to do what we are trained to do.😊Kyungho is right though, their natural environment is a great source to learn and have fun. It was great seeing grandma and aunty. Dianna don’t be afraid to speak a 2nd language. Its okay - we won’t judge. I’ve learning a few words/phrases from the kids. My Jun slept out this video, but it was great seeing Minij’s vast improvement while being sassy with mom😂 Happy Mother’s Day darling🥰

A mix of both is good for kids. If you make them play too much, there will lose interested in studying. If all they do is study, they will become cranky. Balance is the key. I can see you are doing both. Keep it up.

I also like the kids' adorable outfits and how cute they are. Anyways, random comments but you said you like comments. 😄

Someone also has something to say about something. At the end of the day it's your life. You just do you.. Minji Jun are so cute. Love you guys. Happy Mother's Day Dianna. You are a great Mom.

Hello Diana!!! Huge hugs for you and your beautiful family❤❤❤. My favorite Rabbi said «a good advice is free and surely you can bless someone". It is good that you ask for it or our comments because you appreciate it a lot. My advice is just have balance in every step. We come to this world with a huge variety of gifts and talents. So while your kids are growing they will show up and you and your husband will give them all your support to reach their own goals. I know that tiger education follow highest levels but I think that you can be calm for now ...they are babies. Whatever they choose I think that you can guide them to work hard and follow high levels but not pushing...let them grow and their talents will shine as the sun. I wish you the best. Greetings 😘😘😘😘

Your comfort level with korean is what matters most. As long as it is nit effecting your relationship with your inlaws i would not worry about what others think. You will get there when you do. As far as the kids you are both doing an amazing job with them. My personal opinion on the science is that can wait, however basic math is easier to start at this age. Happy Mothers Day🥰

I agree with both of your views. Your hubby is right they need to play and to be honest learning happens on the playground as well. But I get the pressure too. When my daughter was 3 at Montessori school, another mom told me her daughter a few months older than mine was reading and then this feeling of being behind kicked in. But there is no second take on childhood so let them relax and enjoy it. They develop lifelong learning skills through play anyways.

Hi! It is true what your husband said about letting the kids play more. Childhood years are really few and go too quickly. It is in their Childhood that you can create happy memories with the kids that can help them cope with the future challenges. It is also your bonding time with them and time for them to lay foundational values. And play time is precisely where this is done with fun!
I must commend you both for raising happy children. Welldone!

I think it’s admirable the way you and and your husband are living life and in bringing up your adorable children. Keep It up because you are teaching them the art of loving , living and learning through play . Don’t let your past spoil what you and your husband have ventured into . You are a great teacher and i sense that you have adapted Godly wisdom in the way you are conducting your life and that is enough guidance.listen to your husband now and leave the tiger behind . Love and embrace this gift of new life you have and speak korean regardless of delivery imperfection . Your audience will love your courage
