I bought a pair of these DB63 speakers in September 2024 after hearing them at the THE Show. I have them in my living room, being driven by a Proton AA-1150 power amplifier (which can deliver up to 400WRMS/ch on dynamic peaks, but 50WRMS/ch normally). My living room is huge- about 40' wide with a cathedral ceiling. I have the Elac speakers paired with a Velodyne F-1200 servo subwoofer to handle the bottom of the bottom octave. In short, this system sounds ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL for this price point! The sound certainly is dependent on the source material, but for some of the music I've done in my own studio and played back at 24bit/48kHz, the soundstage image is no kidding the full 40' wide by 10' high with excellent depth. It is really hard to believe that the sound I'm hearing is coming out of those little bookshelf speakers. When people come over for a demo, I tell them to close their eyes and listen, because the visual of what they are seeing in front of them doesn't at all match the audio soundstage they are hearing. Interestingly, the Proton amp never goes into Dynamic Power on Demand mode even when I have these cranked (which means it is putting out 50WRMS/ch or less). I can HIGHLY recommend these Elac speakers for their outstanding price/performance ratio. I am an Electrical Engineer and an Audio Engineer.
You are the only reviewer of these who i have watched who has not been blown away by these for their price or the bass. Another reviewer tested them and could clearly hear test signals at 35hz.
My statement they only dig down to about 42 Hz was a reference to their frequency response on their website. I did not measure them to see what I was getting in room response. It’s certainly not uncommon to gain a few Hz when you include room gain. When I stated, the base isn’t overwhelming, I’m talking about output. Yes you can likely hear the base, but it’s not going to shake your pants leg or pressurize your room. That’s physics. That’s why I paired them with the subwoofer I believe even towers benefit from a subwoofer.
These little 63s are the best sounding ,I've heard under £700,they were paired with an Arcam amp ,in the shops set up,and the clarity was superb ..definitely on my wants list .
About to grab these but it's a day before Black Friday, and I'm thinking if I wait until tomorrow, maybe I can get a deal. I'm finally moving back to passive speakers. After 20 years of powered "studio" monitors (Equator D5). I'll be powered them with a class-D amplifier- a pair of Fosi Audio V3 monoblocks. My beloved SMSL M500 is the DAC.
i still havent made the expensive jump to 15 all matching speakers. For now i use elac unifi centers turned on their side for wides, surrounds, and surround back. They were on sale and they sound great for now.
I'm considering replacing the active speakers with passive Elac Debut 3.0 DB63 but I'll have to keep the wiim ultra for streaming music from Tidal which I would also use. I'll need an inexpensive amp, what do you recommend for under $500 that will work well with these speakers and the wiim ultra streamer?
If they are anything like the other Elacs in this "series" they cant be even close to as treble heavy/bright as the 600s. Elacs tend to be much warmer (and better sounding imo), but sound is very personal as we all know..
Depends on what you like. Rock heavy loud music? I'd go with Elacs as they have a new tweeter that goes higher with more definition. Home theater with more power, probably the Klipsch.
I heard these speakers at Audio Advice live, now I know that it was at a show but not at my own home but I felt they were good but the Kef Q Series sounds better way better and they are on sale so often they are a great value for money.
They're back to regular price :( Thanks for the feedback, though. I was seriously contemplating the Q150's. Maybe they'll go back to $300-350 Black Friday.
Sorry if this is a dumb question (I'm not very knowledgeable on speakers), what is the difference (besides size) between the DB63 and DB53? The latter cost 100 dollars less and I was wondering if you're losing a lot compared to the DB63?
Can you give your impressions compared to the Heco Aurora 300. please? I rarely find that comparison, but those who listened to them seem to love them!

Thanks for the review! Good job Elac! The phase plug looks really nice! Pretty good looking speakers. I think ELAC would be a good brand for Obsessed Home Theatre to take on. Lots of good brands to choose from though. I still think you guys should consider CerwinVega! They pack a punch like nothing else for the price. Unfortunately there seems to be a stigma around the brand that stops reviewers from taking them seriously. It would be a good brand because they offer something different. High efficiency power houses at a low price. What more can you ask for when building a home theatre? Continues to improve on there designs and fit and finish, and they can become a respectable name in the industry again! 👍🏻🔈

Heard nothing but good things about these (price / performance wise) I started with a “Jamo S 807 HCS” set (with atmos bouncy speakers add ons) due to the “spouse” issue of design/must fit the interior and not wanting speakers all over. But these really got my attention. I had my eyes on the klipsch rp-600 (II/2) for some time but from what I heard the Elac’s are more neutral.
Great review on the Elac speakers! Would you be interested in doing an update video of your set up? I've noticed a lot of changes since you got started so many years ago.
