Ghostbusters Afterlife has some ridiculous LFE especially at the start of the movie. Was so unexpected when first watching it but made the movie more fun!
@@Youthmanafterlife was a SUPER movie!!! I have a question though, what’s the reasoning behind wanting to go down to single digit frequencies in subwoofer setups? Isn’t our hearing capacity like anything under 20Hz inaudible and ultra low frequencies is actually dangerous at loud volume? Even in movie theaters I don’t think those subs go to single digit frequencies. I might be wrong but I am curious. Also what do you think about the new SVS PB-17 Ultra R subwoofers? Those are supposed to go a lot deeper than the PB-16 Ultras. Another question is I have experience with car audio and when I first started out with my subs I started going sealed. When I made the switch to ported I would never recommend going sealed to anyone going after lower frequencies. With sealed subs they can play lower frequencies at a MUCH lower volume, but with a ported enclosure the volume is so much louder at low frequencies and the more you go up in volume it just gets louder. With sealed subs the speakers have much more distortion and sound like they’re going to pop and explode vs ported. That’s my experience. Everything just sounded better to me ported, I tuned my subwoofer box down to like 32Hz and it was almost perfect!!!
Truly great speakers/system in my house ........ maybe someday. Happy for those of you who has a great system. Happy New Year to everyone. May 2025 be good to all of us.
Those will have to sit on my wish list for awhile as I just recently purchased a 1723 monitor, center and bookshelf S for a 7.1 bed layer surround system. I wanna upgrade the heights to arendals also but again on the wishlist for now. Happy new year.

One of my favorite songs to demo is Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd, either live or the record version. Soaring mids and a rolling bass that just sound as wide or wider than the room you're in. For movies, you already mentioned The Dark Knight rises and the scene where Bane overtakes the CIA has massive bass.
Happy New Year Michael! I'm glad you mention in the comments your preference for compression drivers and horns as an answer to all the comparisons to the JTR speakers. Apples and oranges for those that have heard both. Not better, different with each doing something the other can't. I would say the same for Martin Logan and ESLs. Having heard the Perlisten S7ts and Martin Logan ESL 15A and some Klipsch Cornwall and La Scalas, I remember thinking I wish I could buy all for different rooms/music. But for 99% of my needs, those S7ts (and to a lesser degree, some KEF Reference 5 Metas) sounded "best" to my ears. But looks wise, the La Scala had that 80s excess vibe that can't be ignored.
You’re absolutely correct. A lot of times people want to know what is the best. There are many instances where it’s not a matter of best, but as you have suggested different. Two pair of speakers can sound amazing, yet have their own distinct sound signatures there isn’t always a “winner. “
Would have been nice if he compared his experience to a known quantity. A lot of money for “Arendal speakers.” Comes down to if you are going to pay that, you might as get this.
These can compete with the likes of KEF, Perlisten and others. I don’t compare things directly, unless I have them in the same room, connected to the same gear, at the same time. Our audible memory absolutely cannot compare to speakers over different time frames.
I prefer the sound of the compression driver / horn of JTR. It’s difficult to beat a compression horn for dynamics. The 215RT are half the cost and can easily hang with, if not outperform the 1528 Tower 8. They just don’t look near as good.
@@YouthmanI don’t get it. The JTR 215RT is $5,500 per speaker. How do you say the 215 is half the price of the Arendal 1528?? The 1528 is not over $10k. They are both similarly priced.
Great revues. If you put them on a first floor make sure your floor is strong enough! From just reading about the tech they are a very advanced design. The spec seems very good. But I have not heard them or mixed on them although I think they would be very good studio monitors for those on a lower budget who wanted high quality. Just a stereo pair would be good and maybe even surround sound with more speakers as an upgrade.
These look impressive. They are tied for top choice for my next upgrade with legacy audio focus xd. Would love to see you review some legacy audio towers. Their flagship speaker can hit single digits in room and weighs 300lbs! (Way different price range tho)
@Youthman yeah some companies aren't interested in the world of "paying for exposure"(sending out free samples is one version of this) They should really understand that it can only do good for their brand, especially if they have a good product. It surprises me because I know they have worked with gene long time ago in the past. Audioholics and gene raved about them. I wonder why they(legacy) have went so quiet these past years. :/ shame. I would have enjoyed your take. These arendals are definitely on my short list though either way!
I see your comment. The reason why I would ever delete someone’s comment as if they’re racist, really, really vulgar or something incredibly severe. I don’t think I’ve deleted a comment in the past year.
These types of huge speakers just don't make any sense to me in a multi-channel setup. You give up so much sensitivity for low frequency extension and then you end up adding subs anyway. I would have preferred to see smaller high sensitivity, high output speakers with low distortion. I hope they come out with a revamped 1723 series with that goal in mind.
I’m currently running an 11 speaker atmos setup and was actually looking to upgrade. But 30k for 11 speakers is waaaay out of my budget. Definitely an end game speaker tho
No full range speaker plays down to single digits. Only subwoofers can accomplish it, and you need jtr or better to accomplish it. Agreed Michael, a great speaker should do all things well, not music OR movies.
Cheap dual 15" PA speakers can easy get down to single digits in a room. Almost any dual 15" speakers can do that. But do people want big dual 15" speakers in the living room.
You mentioned Gene and Don a lot in this video. I used to watch Audioholics and had respect for them. Then one night I watched a stream of theirs with Shane Lee (I use to watch as well) where they acted like a bunch of juveniles bashing a subwoofer and brand. Then Gene went on to said manufacture forum thread and bashed the brand fans and owner, got backlash and tried to talk it off as he was drunk when he made the comments. Shane had subwoofer in hand and could have them do measurements and publish them but never did. Ever since then I lost all respect for them, unsubscribed from their channels and take whatever they say as seriously as I do a commercial. They may be right, wrong, doesn't matter that trust is broken and their opinion no longer matters to me. I will wait for Erin's speaker measurements and review.
I mentioned them a lot because I’m friends with both of them. I’m sure I have said things were done things as well to lose other people‘s respect of me. The only person I have control of on this planet is myself. And that’s a handful.
@@Youthman This is how you responded. And that speaks volumes to the quality of character you have. A simple statement of disagreement and letting it go. I have full respect for that. You may have disagreed or done something unintentional, but I have never seen you go after a manufacture, product, company owner, fan base or any one specific. I have never seen you act like a 13 year bully. You have my respect. I will continue watching. I am interested in what you are doing with obsessed and JTR. I was sharing an opinion and the specific why of that opinion since you were calling out those that call them and you "paid schills". That incident triggered anger in me and I am not strong enough charcter to let it go even though I have no skin in the game. Just hate seeing people act the way they did.
