  • Hospitality isn’t always comfortable, safe, or convenient. But when we let strangers into our homes we honor God, love others, and receive delight.

Pastor John, this message was delivered not so that we can see how kind and generous you are (which you are, Praise the Lord) but for the viewer to look into their heart and see that we all share same thoughts and struggles that you mentioned (fear, doubt, anxiety, what if...etc.). I just pray that whoever is reading this to see the promises of God of peace, comfort and providence to be more real than our circumstances. Oh boy is it ever difficult, but that's why we pray.

I find it so powerful that Pastor John openly admits that he's not perfect. He struggles too and he shared his struggles with us. I find this very encouraging.

Thank you. I struggle too. I allowed someone to live in my house for a month. I believe it was God's will. I have asked God to help me become more hospitable and He is doing just that.

So good, it's easy to give out of a surplus . it's when it actually comes from a place we don't want to give. Praise God

Indeed it's not easy.. God help me too each time I'm torn between obedience and trust in Him, and selfishness and pride.

Anyone else notice how old he's looking really living out God's mission until the end.

Nathan Buford interesting observation..since you mention it.. I have always noticed how young his spirit seems... how on fire he is with the joy of the father, son, and Holy Spirit. It’s so beautiful and infectious that I have never thought much of what he looks like. I’d rather look old on the outside and be renewed on the inside because I’m too focused on God’s kingdom to care than the reverse (which is being so focused on outside and dead on the inside because you’re too focused on your own kingdom)

I wish we had more pastors like that, who are bothered by the suffering they see around them. Not the ones we have, who are not bothered and only care about what they can get from those in desperate situations. That's what makes me very sick about this modern day prosperity gospel business.

    yes, sometimes hospitality hurts..
I will share you my experience and I'm going to make it short..
my pastor friend was always have a problem in money to sustain his family,
he ask me for money and I ask where will he use it for and he said 'fare to go to church' because he was invited to preach on other church, I gave him some.
Week after that he ask again for help if I can give money for fare to go to hospital(my pastor doesn't have car) because his daughter needed check-up, and I give some money (kinda big amount) and he gave thank to the LORD.
After 3 days he called me 2am in the morning, I'm still sleepy to answer his call (I kinda annoyed b'coz he disturb me from my sleep). After my phone stop ringing I got up from my bed and look to my phone and see lots of text from my pastor, txts was if its ok for me to give him some money to buy medicine for his wife'..etc.. and this thought from my mind was "who am I to supply his family needs?" and my heart was hurt from thinking like that and
I go pray asking the LORD 'why this kind of people asking me for something when I don't have for myself'..Asking for forgiveness and told the LORD im not giving anything to him and I pray for his wife sickness to be healed in Jesus name, fell asleep after that.
More than a week he called me again, he only ask how am I doing, I said im studying, am good, yet my heart was state of uneasiness and said I was sorry for not giving money to him then he immediately respond it's okay, his wife is healthy then I replied sorry that I can't give him money but I prayed for his wife health, he said 'thanks be to the LORD, and shouldn't have rely on money but to the LORD Almighty..' after that we continued chatting(forgot my studying that day)
    - I said in my heart thank you LORD and cried tears of joy 😆
Well sorry long story, it's my testimony and also my friend pastor all for GOD's glory😊

We have the Right to be Considerate of ourselves..as well as someone else. That is why we leave things to God. In my daily travels I Give to those God prompts me too and I do not give to those God does not prompt me to. It is Not rocket science! If you ask Jesus daily to Help you with your day..He Does!

Did he just say "I'm a hedonist?"
Definition of hedonist: A person whose life is devoted to the pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification....that is absolutely NOT fitting for a Christian and even more unfitting for a Pastor.....that's insane🤯

    • @christodoula
      @christodoula 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I beg of you to discard your judgment because you are making yourself look like a fool. John Piper uses the term hedonism in reference to "Christian hedonism" which is a concept he came up with I think when he wrote the book Desiring God. This Christian hedonism is basically "Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart," meaning we are creatures that are self serving and always seeking our own gains but through the love of Christ and glorifying God our hedonism won't be our downfall but an asset because we will end up desiring the same things God wants for us in the first place. He's written and spoken a lot on this topic just look it up.

@@christodoula You're calling me a "fool"? I encourage you to examine yourself and the Holy Word of GOD to learn how to interact with others in a more respectful way.. Calling names doesnt make for a good testimony and shows you are not acting in a way that is glorifying GOD.

@@thatWitchywoman but yeah John Piper means finding the greatest joy in Christ. The pursuit of pleasure in Christ.
