    THis is the exact question I was asking myself and God all week! I was struggling with something and wondering if watching a movie or reading comics was sinful instead of spending time to be closer to him. I asked God for an answer and then tried to see what my parent's view on this was. Then the next day I was scrolling through youtube for paint videos and came across this, I laughed so hard. God gave me an answer.
    Thank you Lord.

      Oh praise God that’s so good to hear! I’m a little jealous tbh because I struggled HEAVILY with this for months and I’m only just now feeling a breakthrough answer to prayer, one I don’t quite understand yet. Definitely my lack of faith keeps me from getting quick answer, good for you for having strong faith!! Isn’t it wonderful how God led us to the same video?

      I’m doing better, I needed to grasp God’s love and grace more and the person of Jesus, fixing my flawed perception of Him, and know how much God cares for us rather than only seeing what He tells us to do. Which we do got to obey Him, but if we just focus only on the commands and not on Him and we’re just following Him out of slavish fear, that’s a very big problem and hurts ones walk with Him.
      It’s still a process but I need more time in His word. I’m feeling better and God really seemed like He was telling me that He is with me because I wouldn’t stop seeing references to His presence as I went about.

It has been very hard on me to say the least, one day I could barely find motivation to do anything because I was so consumed by my discouragement and lack of answers. And now, finally, God is answering me. I don’t even quite understand His answer yet, all I know is I’m lying here crying, feeling this truth that Jesus is with me and gave me an answer finally. I always thought the same but ever since I read "Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God", I've always known that you don't have to pray 24/7. Just sweep the floor for God, do the dishes for God, play video games for God, go out for a stroll got God etc. That verse is life changing

    • @josedopwell9645
      @josedopwell9645 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Play video games for God? I hope you're not talking about ones with violent and sexual images. Psalms says not to put anything before our eyes that is base (i.e. evil, wicked). Once we've see an evil image it can't be unseen. It's imprinted in our brains. Hence the command to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. Playing Grand Theft Auto, with it's scores of perverted images, language and ideas, will not build you up in your most holy faith.

    • @Marquetica
      @Marquetica 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Jose Dopwell of course, no violence. I meant games to educate you. I've never liked playing games so I don't even know what games there are but my message was directed to teenagers, I suppose, if they do play games they should do it for God and I automatically assume that the games are educational and they absolutely do not contain any violence. It's the same with music, for example, if somebody listens to rap music it doesn't mean it's bad. If it is Christian rap and there's no violence then it celebrates God and you listen to it for him.

    • @josedopwell9645
      @josedopwell9645 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@Marquetica l agreed with everything you said until you brought up Christian rap. Please hear me out on this. You can even do your own investigation if you'd like.
      Much of contemporary Christian music is worldly music beats with a thin Jesus coating on top. The artists are marketed by methods that come straight from the world's playbook. They even look like the world in terms of how they dress, cut their hair, pose for pictures, etc. It's worship of the SELF rather than its denial.
      That's why it's not surprising when the more prominent artists seek and get exposure (i.e. cross over) on ungodly afternoon or late night TV talk shows. The (worldly) record company that distributes the music just sees it as another genre (like rap, metal, etc.) to cash in on. The artists often go for fame (i.e. praise of men) and money, two faithkillers that Jesus and the apostles warned against fervently and frequently. A lot of the songs don't mention the divisive name of Jesus. They stick with the generic "god" or "you" to keep from being offensive and to hit the widest target audience. They also sing secular songs like Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," a song that absolutely does not praise God. If anything the use of that word is an insult to the Almighty. Where's the spiritual discernment from singers who are supposedly believers?
      When artists are put on the spot in interviews about what they really believe and/or what God says about certain sinful behaviors, their answers are usually vague, wordy, unscriptural and non-confrontational. Jesus said let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything else comes from evil. But they don't want to alienate potential buyers and/or anger the record company they essentially work for.
      Even the radio stations are segregated like secular radio. The on air banter of the DJs is just a cleaned up version of what goes on every day on worldly radio programs.
      When Jesus said no one can serve two masters, he didn't say God or the devil; he said God or money.
      Compare these "rap songs to Jesus" with hymns that have stood the test of centuries. I'd rather hear and sing one verse of "Amazing Grace" or "A Mighty Fortress" than sit through an entire evening of "Christian rap" or a lot of other contemporary Christian music. Those old songs are God-centered the way true worship is meant to be!!
      Could you honestly envision Jesus or the apostles listening to and/or approving of Christian rap or metal music? Do you think they'd say it worships and glorifies God?
      Current Christian music is just another way the devil is slithering into the church. As l said, you can do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

    We are all made differently for God's different purposes, but speaking for myself, I really can't participate in things like videogames, movies, or tv, except the occasional movie or tv show in the context of fellowship/quality time with friends and family. For me personally, I am very easily distracted, very passionate, and engaged by this kind of stimulus. In other words, I go too overboard. I may try to find other ways to relax and recreate, but to be honest, I think God made me this way, because he wants me to be more completely committed to his ministry. When God delivered me from these idols and others, I felt an overwhelming sense of freedom. I don't use social media apart from sharing the gospel, either, and I used to research journalistically as though I were being paid to do so. My social media use was obsessive and was saturated with the fruits of that work. There was so little room for God. Since I was set free, everything changed. My priorities shifted. I used to think that one day I might minister through worship music, as God had given me inate musical giftings, but I didn't feel called to that after I was set free. Now all I want to do is preach the gospel. I still love worship musically, God has crafted me to enjoy him in that sense in a deep and rich way, but that is not my calling, and I cannot explain how that sense changed apart from a supernatural work of the holy spirit. I never wanted to preach, but now I have a tremendous burden for the church to know Christ more deeply and perfectly, to offer their lives up as living sacrifices.

    “Sick to bring every act into connection with the Lord, every entertainment, as a gift from God and a revelation of himself, and a path of worshipful enjoyment and good for other people. And the more difficult that is, the more likely it is the act should be replaced with something more fruitful.”

    Wow, I was kind of worrying about this because I realized how much time I spend on video games. I have 12 days total played in one game (just one game), 10 days in another game, 4 days in another game. I’ve been feeling bad about that lately. I do read the Bible daily and I don’t know what to pray to God about and I don’t idolize anything. 11:54 so in call of duty you can put customized paint jobs on your guns and if I put a bible verse on my gun in the game would that count? Also I’m not addicted I just have nothing else to do. I can easily stop playing to do something else.

      I have played a lot of games too but at some point I saw how much of a waste of time they feel like... You just play something to satisfy the flesh for a while and it will count for nothing in eternity. Almost equal to just staring at a wall for hours, at least the results of it. Well, to me they are and idol (something that gives momentary pleasure that you wouldn't like to let go of, and even if you do you still like the memories of the feelings they gave and would like to play again) and it's all meaningless... Of course if it's not an idol that's good - but I've noticed how entertainment puts me in a sense of "sleep" for a while, like you become dull because you're in a "zone". Idols or not, at least my conscience doesn't really stay clear with them. And not only me - I feel like games are almost completely useless for anyone to play... People don't like to hear it and they make excuses - so did I - but I seriously don't find how they grow anyone at all. I've heard testimonies of some losing desire to do many "worldly" things, like playing games, after they became true Christians, and I think everyone should at least grow to that place. With TV you may at least sometimes look at nature films or life stories of Christians or the like (though most that comes from TV is also garbage). Except for, for a time now I've played with a family member, which is probably a bit "better".(Still, even that kinda pulls me to have my flesh desire to play more so I plan to maybe cut on that too) Anyway... If you don't know what to do, there's plenty of good videos on a YT channel by "Michael Chriswell", you should check it out if you haven't already. There's also something about prayer there, but more about other aspects of the Christian life.

      Adithso I mostly play them because I have nothing better to do. I do have to admit I do feel the urge to stop playing them less and I can’t really do anything right now because I don’t have my drivers license yet and I don’t have a job yet but I do want to get my drivers license and a job. I always used to play video games instead of going to school activities because at school I was never really included and I was pretty much just ignored when ever I did go to a school activity and no one talked to me so I stopped going to school activities. It was also the same at church and I thought church would be the one place where I was included and talked to but I was wrong so I stopped going to church activities to because it felt to much like school (the only thing I regret not going to is feeding the homeless, back then I didn’t care but I do now) I play video games because I am included in all of it and I’m good at them. I don’t like movies because it’s the same predictable garbage over and over again, I do watch this one show called show supernatural it does include the existence of God and angels but the writing about God, angels and heaven are all fictional, for example in the show God can die and they made God have a sister and they exclude the existence of Jesus Christ. But I don’t let it change my faith at all and I don’t like or watch horror movies. It’s just that their isn’t much for me to do rn. I plan to start to devote my life to Christ when I’m an adult and live on my own.

      Finding God in even our entertainment means seeking to glorify him even in our entertainment. For example, if I am playing a video game, are my actions within that game God-honouring and glorifying, or am I simulating actions that in real life would be sin?
      Or if I am watching TV or reading a book, is the content glorifying to God, or does it offend him. Am I finding enjoyment in seeing sin played out on TV or in a book?
      These are some of the questions I think it is helpful to ask if we are wondering whether an entertainment option is appropriate.

    • @tom_db244

      Finding pleasure in shooting and killing is not good. To enjoy violence and such as your entertainment. "Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways,"
      Proverbs 3:31 ESV. God is not glorified in the (simulated) killing of people.
      Please take care, because you can 't love God and the world at the same time. Don't pretend that you can choose to later do it better. We are all bad and can not do better on our own, it is not dependent on age or circumstances. When Jesus says I am The Way, then there really is no other way! Ask the Lord to help/save you, for no one could do it alone (2 Corinthians 3: 5)

I do know makeup is often used just as a fun play of colors and to highlight what you love about your appearance. For others it is a way to change their face because they hate it and then for others they are wearing it for seductive reasons and attention. I can see it be a slippery slope of vanity.

      Makeup is a sin, it’s external adornment, look up scripture on it. Vanity is indeed a sin and the Jezebel spirit tells women and some men to wear makeup for various reasons and when you wear it, you have been deceived. God made you without makeup and you changing your appearance is a big middle finger to God. Read the scripture on vanity and the Spirit shall affirm the truth with you, denying your flesh is very important, feelings are of they devil when they aren’t accompanied by the Spirit of God. And just because you may be good at something doesn’t mean it’s a God giving talent, but use your God given talents to glorify Him and not yourself, for instance if you can sing, do it for the Lord, don’t become a famous singer because that’s your will and not Gods, sing to praise Him because He gave you life and if money is coming from places as you honor the Lord, thank Him and give it accordingly, don’t enhance your life to the world and flesh wants, but you can use some for yourself but only the Spirit will tell you what’s right and wrong. Listen to Him over yourself and you’ll have the wisdom

    This has been a stumbling block for me for a while. When I first started taking my faith more seriously, say a month ago, I felt this huge repulsion from a lot of stuff. Prior to this, I was (maybe still am) a HUGE nerd. I had a D&D group, streamed video games on Twitch, etc. I cut it all off, anything related to video games whether it was an actual game on my phone or even some social media (all of that is gone for now as well) that posted news about my favorite games, gone. In this month, there has been a battle going on within about whether I can play any video games or not. My wife and friends want me back, although I think that's because I usually played a healer or supportive role, but it never felt right. Much like Julio, I saw them as time wasted. If I have time to play, I have time to pray, right? I'm not about to go and play for 8 hours or start streaming again...I still wonder about D&D (there are magical elements in it, but we are adults that know it isn't real of course), but maybe when I feel more comfortable in my faith, and if God wills it, I will not feel so convicted about entertainment.

      If I may say something (try to be critical about what I say as I also struggle with this so I could have a biased view of this)
      I also quited gaming a few months (not now but used to) before that I also struggled with Magic in games (played a popular MMO online with a whole bunch of lore so Magic and fake gods (I know they dont exist) but there was also a quest about dying to one of those gods and waking up in something like the underworld and then you do a quest to get back to life again so it was kinda based on the greek/roman gods?
      But anyways: I did not like that, it did not feel right. So I quitted for a bit.
      Now I kinda played the game because of a lot of free time during the summer holiday but I still did feel kind of bad, however it is also important to look at how my life was:
      I only really had gaming as a hobby, yes, I did go to school and yes, I had a job for money, but beside that I had no interaction with other people (and I was not very good at video games either) but now I read books, did a bit of gardening and am interested in drawing, so I explored a bit you could say.
      But I still want to play video games, so I played some, but did not stick to it. Then I decided to play the MMO again and so far I kinda liked it, but I still wonder: should I video game or not?
      So what do I want to say? Perhaps the reason you struggle with playing video games is because God wants you to explore other "free time" things or perhaps something, but as I said I dont know for sure, as I personally struggle with this as well so I may (propaply) have a biased view.

      @@jelledebroekert1442 That's not a bad idea. Early on, it was because I was just convinced that I was going to hell if I continued with those hobbies. Now that that fear had subsided a bit, it's a matter of whether it is a good use of my time? Can I really do these things to the glory of God? Excluding games that are over the top sexual or violent, some do have value in that I can play them with friends and/or my wife as a bonding activity or have stories that are entertaining without being crass or dirty. I'll consider other hobbies though.

      You said that you look for other hobbies to do and perhaps that is what God wants for you (I dont know, praying for wisdom about this is something you could do) but it can also be other things, for example mayby God wants you to join a bible study group or something else. I used to be addicted to video games. Something the Lord has shown me is it’s not sinful to play, not damning to our souls... but that’s not the question we should be asking. The question should be, “does it help us run?”
      Many young men are wasting their lives away in front of a screen escaping reality while billions of people who haven’t heard the gospel need us to go to them.
      And our souls objectively do not benefit from video games... I don’t care who you are. It’s not condemning, but it definitely is not as fulfilling as running to Christ

      @Alex nobody I'm the wrong man to be giving out any wisdom, but when I first truly repented and believed on our Savior I didn't really understand what was wrong or right in this modern world, like him I thought games, TV and other forms of entertainment was against GOD. But as I began to read more and praying more and asking The LORD for the truth in all that is pleasing and displeasing to Him and I've learned that anything that will hinder ur walk with the LORD should be discarded, Hebrews 12:1. And I also thought that the work and worship of Christ was in a local church( as I was lead to believe) , but through prayer and scripture I've learned that the work of The Lord Jesus Christ is to put on display the very character of our Lord Jesus to the world, Matthew 5,14-16 John 4, 19-24

      keep it Not sure what you mean by that, nor how forgiveness became part of the question. However I would say neither of your two options are the answer. We should not, nor do we have the authority, to force anyone into anything. However we do have the responsibility to be an example after Jesus for others to learn from. Though we will fall short, it's to guide brothers and sisters, as well as unbelievers into Him

    • @minjael
      @minjael 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe God gave us enough understanding to come to a state of forgiveness. A similar process to when we decide for ourselves when we had enough of the entertainment. This is a character that we learn to cultivate and grow as we become aware of its results. We become mature.

    • @Loose_Change
      @Loose_Change 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@minjael Ok, I see. While I don't disagree that we are inspired by God and that the Holy Spirit works within us to bring about spiritual maturity, I also know that the human heart is naturally sinful and not to be trusted. So I believe that it takes directly calling on God in prayer and petition to keep that in check (ex. I have friends in the faith that will consume entertainment all day and week, generally leaving no intentional time with God; and not see anything wrong or concerning with it). Though I'm not trying to come off as legalistic, rest is good and designed by God; but even us true believers can fall prone to biased or flawed judgements. I think my take on the concept is more so that when someone makes the decision/proclamation of, "God, I want to surrender every aspect of my life to you", though it is still in the individual's free will to do what they want, by the nature of the statement it's technically no longer up to them, as they've given it to God

  • @louism8911
    @louism8911 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is entertainment ok, like video games which help me to reduce stress/fun/relax/peace like honey from Proverbs but too much honey is bad because of no self-control. Proverbs 25:27-28
    Also, in Genesis 4:7 LORD says to Cain that he shall rule over sin (desire against you) Back up for Genesis 4:7 from New Testament, James 1:14-15 and Romans 6:12
    I'm not sure but I'm being cautious not to treat entertainment as an idol but instead worship God through entertainment by Philippians 4:8. I admit not all do not glorify God but discern what is right and wrong. If it's wrong from any scenes like in the middle of watching a movie, throwing into the fire or rebuke and if it's right like love, sacrifice for others, etc then I use them to worship God...
    But I must not forget God's Will which is part of my life. I have used my art as a talent which is to spread the Gospel and worship so that I may join the suffering with true Christians, 12 disciples just as Jesus suffered to spread the good news. Matthew 25:14-30...I'm sure this is for everybody. Use your talents.
    What do you think about that? Or am I deceived because I use my own words?
    Please use your discernment with help from the Holy Spirit and test my spirit. Thank you
