Thank you for blessing me with that gift and my life has changed indefinitely because of you. That is why I can say I love you Peter and your videos are still leveling up somehow
He really has impacted a lot of people. Even I got to hone my photography skills because of Peter. Got into it more when I started watching his vlogs and tutorials.
Great video, high quality. As someone who has shot professionally for the last 5 year with the R5, I think I'll wait another 5 years for the R5 III. There's not much here that makes me want to go out and preorder this.
Still have to take in consideration that how many effort took to make those videos and planing in advance. A lot more then what you think it takes to make a Peter Mckinnon Video. Still a W though
I love that handling the camera in the video, you're just flashy with your magician skills... confidently twirling with flair. I feel like you just do it naturally and maybe you don't even realize you're doing it. :)
I just bought the C70 to compliment my R5C. Doing about 80% video production in 20% stills. I am happy to say that I don't need this camera. For the first time in my life I am content lol. I really love what Cannon is doing here though and I would absolutely treasure this camera if I had it
Agreed. Only thing I’m excited about is the LPE6P batteries that have enough juice to support 8K60. Waiting for canon to confirm we can use this in the R5C instead of a external PD option.
@@yti also before I got this C70 I was waiting for the release of the R5 II. Unfortunately I ended up jumping on the C70 when I traded in my GH5 And I didn't plan it. So I was thinking when the r52 came out I might want to upgrade. I'm good though 😂

I wasn't a super early adopter with the R5. Supply chain issues and all that kept it out of my hands until March of 2021. It was my first big camera purchase since I got a 5D Mk III in 2013. It took me a long while to fall in love with it, but it's now my favorite camera I've ever owned. I don't see myself getting a Mk II anytime soon. The OG R5 does just about everything I'll ever need in a camera. Even if something goes catastrophically wrong with it, I would probably just replace it with the same model. Edit: Considering Canon released the LP-6NH batteries for the R5 and R6, it seems greedy and environmentally wasteful to make another new battery just one mark generation later. Sure you can use the old battery, but we're keeping special features locked behind this new hardware based paywall.

What will decide for me is the autofocus and lowlight video noise performance. I’ve been on the fence about switching to Sony for 12800 native iso, specifically for underwater stuff since it’s always several stops darker if you’re going very deep, and then autofocus. I shoot fight choreography and stunts for previz in the film industry and the point you said about holding focus on a a subject even if someone else steps in front would be huge for me. Autofocus racking between subjects when shooting fights is a big annoyance for me so that’s great news. Sony autofocus has been smoking canon lately so hopefully it’s matched now as I really don’t want to switch ecosystems
As an R5 mk1 owner I was a little worried about the mk2 giving me some buyers remorse. Honestly, the only thing I’d want is the subject locking for autofocus while recording video, and maybe that can be achieved with a firmware update (although not likely). Even still, I don’t see a huge reason (for non-professionals) to rush out and purchase this camera.

So 5 years later they almost caught up with a Nikon Z8 or Z9. I can appreciate color science etc, but really? Is this suppose to be exciting? Great video Peter!!
When you said everything is that good you are right, canon have trouble competing with themselves i feel, if the R8 didnt exist id have picked this up, but currently my R8 is all of the R5/R5mk2 i need but a lower cost meaning im not gonna be afraid of destroying it
I still daily drive the Canon R5, for photos and 4k video. The eye-af is incredible, it's fast, the colors are beautiful, the stabilization is great, the RF lenses are great, the noise reduction is great. I still don't see a need to upgrade to this. It's beautiful though. The price is more than I was expecting though. But you're right, what more is there to do exactly?
I’ve been wanting two camera bodies for a while. My 5d4 does nothing but collect dust and my r5 gets all my attention. This looks like the perfect combo with the r5 mark 1!
Yo Peter, I’ve been doing TH-cam for about a year now and I’m about to hit 80k subs. Your videos are so inspiring! Nothing gets me excited to make videos like watching this channel!
Bruuu you got me excited for this camera other than the Hassleblads and also the global shutter Sony ( we are now walking in the future my friends)! Been waiting for this since the 5D MkII, now the tech from my old Sony Hx1 Trickles UP and we got insane tech not seen before, imo global shutter coming in another camera and if not, simply around the corner, very exciting times!
I know we are comparing this to the R5 MkI - but a couple of the features are already in other cameras from Canon. In my R8 (came out a little over a year ago) I have: the physical switch between photo & video. The dedicated record button up top. The overheating display (as the R8 can overheat as well on hot days, especially while filming).
While I appreciate the video, to me, the R5 was always a stills oriented camera that was falsely portrayed as a full blown hybrid camera. So for me, I am more interested in the stills features of this thing versus the mki. So far, I haven't seen enough of a difference to warrant an additional $2K price tag, (I got a mki today for like $2300 new). Sure the BSi sensor might get me an additional extra stop of light, and the readout speed of the e-shutter is a good bit faster, but I am not noticing the rolling shutter much at all, even with a fast target.
Honestly with flagship cameras today, you just want them to work and work well. They do the job for certain and are robust enough to handle anything you throw at it, weather conditions, high buffer to keep shooting without worry about missing the shot, battery life, ergonomics, etc. I think though its a matter of time before the first camera manufacturer really steps outside of the box and thinks on what photography could be if we didn't stick to rigid norms of what a camera SHOULD be. If I had ideas to throw around just to get people thinking, how bout this: Square sensor. So you don't have to worry about holding the camera portrait or landscape, you just have the shot and your lens is covering more sensor altogether. And, say if its square sensor, you could put it in crop mode to where it doesn't matter what orientation you're holding the camera, it could horizon lock your footage when filming video, something that a lot of action cameras do! Come on flagships, look at other camera's and what they do differently! Another idea, and I'm sure this is bound to happen: computational photography. And no, I don't mean like how smartphones do it where it just like smooths out skin and fake blurs the background. No, to hell with that crap. I mean where it can better compute things like your exposure. Imagine say, per-pixel auto ISO, so you'll never have a blown out highlight and never have too dark of black levels. How about LIDAR depth sensing for even more accurate focus pulling especially if using manual lenses. i dunno, just thinking that the future of photography could do some experimentation. If more camera companies experiment, maybe some ideas might emerge as great ideas and could revolutionize photography, instead of what we have now, which is just slow evolution of photography, not leaps and bounds.
Just when I thought the 5D series was ending, Canon came back and showcased that it will continue to live on, I went from the original 5D in 2013 to the 5D Mk4 in 2021, which I sold last year (2023) and now I'm debating if I want to get the R5 Mk 1 with the Mk 2 being overpriced. In my opinion, the 5 Series is just the best camera.
The R5 II - the Queen that never was. As Nikon user , Canon blew away every current offering on the market, especially the AF performance look frighteningly good.. Sony has the A7 V, but I am not sure it's AF is as good , maybe an A7R VI would leap frog it. I will have to wait for the Z9 II , to get actual AF performance similar to this , hope it will come at the end of next year , I'm starting to save up :) Well done Canon!
What a video! :) While the R5MII sounds great, I am gonna stick to my R5, as I rather save my money on RF glass. Also, I really hate the fact, that the old battery grip, cage, etc. won't work with the new R5MII, which would make an upgrade significantly more expensive...
Good camera. Much better deal than the R3 Mark II, aka R1, for most people. But it is also VERY expensive for what it is. I don't understand. How do they plan to gain more market share at these prices?
I never thats how hats were made, it makes you appreciate the craftsmanship in into the art, and this video you made im new to your channel just a great learning experience to me sir i clicked cause im a camera junky, but this has definitely been a great experience thanks for the video and your hard work sir
Nice update ! I'm keeping my R5 since it's for photography. I reckon for a hybride shooter it's a cool update, but I don't care really for my practice. I would like to see a 60 megapixel sensor at some point for product photography and studio work. What I would love to see is a F1.4 line up, like a 50 1.4.
I think I'm still happy enough with my R5 to stick with it a little while longer. As a wildlife guy, I'm more excited to see what Canon does with the R7 mark II.
The best thing of having a R5 mark II available is the price drop on the R5.
This is very true. R5 is still a fuckin beast and most people still don’t even put it to the test.

I will have to wait for the Z9 II , to get actual AF performance similar to this , hope it will come at the end of next year , I'm starting to save up :)
Well done Canon!
I think the global shutter is a bit overrated. It's a giveaway for low light in my opinion. Maybe is not that necessary for these type of cameras.
Your videos are a breath of fresh air, always enjoy watching
I really like Peter's new approach.
Peters still the TH-cam camera king...
It’s finally here 🎉
U funny as hell with the Movie Trailer intro lolol
ps. i want one of those hats .. WOW
What a video! :) While the R5MII sounds great, I am gonna stick to my R5, as I rather save my money on RF glass. Also, I really hate the fact, that the old battery grip, cage, etc. won't work with the new R5MII, which would make an upgrade significantly more expensive...
We're waiting for you at Sony, Peter.
That was a super nice and impactful hat sequence: some of the best work I’ve ever seen.
Cameras have gotten so good, it’s like upgrading from one generation of iPhone pro to the next.
Good camera. Much better deal than the R3 Mark II, aka R1, for most people. But it is also VERY expensive for what it is.
I don't understand. How do they plan to gain more market share at these prices?
Nahhh R5 M1 is so much better at the current price. Can't beat it.
And here we are lol I waited for the r1 for years... and im here
the intro 🔥
So nice cam, need it for my reviews 🤩
DId you upgrade your audio setup? Sounds great! No visible mic but sounds like a podcast!
Awesome video Peter. Intro is epic as always. We just pre-ordered The R5 Mark 2 and the R1
It is so cool to see these video inserts, in this case it is the hats production!
I never thats how hats were made, it makes you appreciate the craftsmanship in into the art, and this video you made im new to your channel just a great learning experience to me sir i clicked cause im a camera junky, but this has definitely been a great experience thanks for the video and your hard work sir
20 seconds in and I'm already like. HOLD UP, it's been what *spits drink* FIVE YEARS, are you kidding me?
Nice update ! I'm keeping my R5 since it's for photography. I reckon for a hybride shooter it's a cool update, but I don't care really for my practice. I would like to see a 60 megapixel sensor at some point for product photography and studio work. What I would love to see is a F1.4 line up, like a 50 1.4.
I think I'm still happy enough with my R5 to stick with it a little while longer. As a wildlife guy, I'm more excited to see what Canon does with the R7 mark II.
WTF. Pete, 3 videos released on the same time?! What a day!
Kings is back 😍🔥
I‘m in love with this camera already!
The new Canon is very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
Yet another masterpiece, it's always a pleasure.
What a freaking intro dude.🔥🤘🏼
kislux I love you so much and watching your videos makes my day brighter
The hat making process was beautiful
Thank you!
