The people who made this mod seem to have never played a Mario game and instead made a Saturday Morning cartoon style for everything, which looks so goddamn awful.
The difference with TAS is that they can basically boil down each movement like a stop-motion film. No human on earth has the type of reaction time seen here.
seeing the game with all the textures changed like this is... honestly pretty offputting... it doesn't even feel like Mario 64 anymore, feels like a fan recreation of it.

It's not the realistic textures that make them ugly so much as the complete lack of consistency. The backgrounds and certain textures are just shitty vector art and the rest are very out of place stock textures. That's not to mention that some models don't even really use textures like Mario's Model.

Some high res texture are too much modified... I don't like the drawing-like skies :s A little disappointed. Anyway, some things look very good and I still like to see the bugs to skip and go fast as fast as possible!
Ew, sm64 was designed to have low resolution textures, the low poly worked well, like sm64ds. But high resolution textures which clearly look drawn or Google imaged, just look gross and ugly, adding high resolution textures don't make anything look any better, only the model can.
@sonicfreak101 I actually mixed 2 packs to get this result. The numbers, letters, and Bowser and all from Elxuxi's texture pack. The rest is Mollymutt's.

NumbKnucks i don’t know. Super mario 64 DS looked better than this. It’s just the high res textures make this look more artificial than usual. And while Mario’s eyes do benefit with the added iris’s, it makes him look more cross eyed. The backgrounds get the worst of it though. It honestly looks like a bunch of drawings. I just think the game was made for the original graphics...but that’s just me.

Super Mario 64 is so much better than Super Mario Galaxy. I love how much faster Mario is, how many more moves he has, how the levels aren't all linear and actually have exploration, how you can actually move the camera around, and how the game is more challenging.
