It's literally the same exact glitch 15 years later, it happens when the framebuffer isn't cleared or completely overwritten before drawing objects to it.
I don't remember the name for it, but that weird sprite bleed effect occurring at 3:30 is a side effect of the way most games handle their rendering. You can see the effect in many games if you manage to glitch yourself out to having no background or skybox. Basicaly, a background or skybox are used to tell the game what to render for a given pixel when nothing else is there. Without that in place, it just leaves that pixel showing whatever it had in the previous frame. In the 3D world style, it looks like they have some sort of post-effect that adds a bit of blur to every pixel after the rest of the frame is rendered. If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say they're using a Depth-of-Field effect to make the background look out of focus compared to the foreground, and that's why we're seeing everything that's not a foreground object get more and more blurred when it's leftover images and not being re-drawn every frame.
The glitch occuring at 3:30 happens because when you preform the glitch the level somewhat 'forgets' it's suppose to be a vertical sub-area, so it doesn't bother using a taller background or removing frames higher up, where it thinks you shouldn't be able to see. Creating that interesting, and cool effect. Addition/edit: the blur effect in the 3D world style, is the same thing, but the 3D world style handles frames differently. (The edit was me fixing spelling mistakes caused by me typing fast.)
@CDS Productions Lol I was about to write that theory on the level resetting from a vertical to a horizontal layout. Nice work on beating me to it 😅 (Also lol, we are both Productions 👌)
I feel like theres more knowledge of them than in smm1 due to the editor forcing creators to make explanations if they want others to know how stuff works
I found a glitch in the SMB1 style. When mario (or anyone else) is in a big goomba shoe or stiletto, and has a power up and a shellmet mario can damage enemies through a thin layer of ground blocks
CarlSagan42 plays Luigi all the time - might be a good way to troll him with "impossible" level at the very end, just before a flagpole, after some hard stuff.
I think something about the powerup/door glitch used this way resets the theme to the default horizontal ground day theme, that's probably why vertical levels break after 2 screens, because that area technically doesn't exist anymore.
@@Pedro_eqw This is a common thing in game engines. If it wasn't for skyboxes or backgrounds you would always have this. A good way to mess with this is the hammer editor as you can look about and see it in 3d.
I suspect the weird glitch with the vertical levels happens because when you enter the door while collecting the powerup, you are put in a glitched state, and after you come back and enter the door again it causes you to wrong warp which causes the game to freak out and reset the area to default settings, which is the horizontal ground theme. It seems to only reset some aspects of it, as apparent by keeping the night effects or the level's underwater state. Because of this combination of circumstances, it seems that the game thinks the level is horizontal in certain ways but is still vertical physically. This probably causes it to scale the background incorrectly which causes it to not draw above 2 screens, which is the normal height limit for a horizontal level, which causes the screen to not clear itself after drawing all objects onto the screen which creates that weird effect. I bet if you messed around with this weird reset state, and other things with the door-glitched state, you could get other crazy things to happen.
It's probably because 3D world actually has a lighting effect, and in this case it's a very slight darkening effect that's applied to the screen every frame, which causes the trails to slowly disappear
The vertical ground theme glitch is a result of the game incorrectly resetting to the default background, which corresponds to a horizontal ground theme. In a horizontal ground theme, the camera is not supposed to render anything above two screens of height, thus there is no background image beyond that height.
Im trying to do it too but am having no luck. I think it's perfect sometimes but can't get it. Does the flower have to touch you the same frame you open the door or should it work anyways when you hold up, this is something I've been wanting to do for a while and just now got the chance to do but and really disappointed that I can't pull it off.
That last "glitch" isn't really a glitch. Each small character is the same size, but when they become big there sizes are different by a tiny bit. Luigi is the tallest, Toad and Toadette (being the same size) are the smallest, and Mario is in the middle. It could be a really interesting concept for a level where the course "changes" depending on which character you play as.
3:24 the same image duplication glitch that originated in SM3DW when you get far out of the map due to a speed glitch, where previous frames of the screen don't get cleared.
The reason why the vertical sub area one gets janky is because after the glitch the game thinks you are in a horizontal sub area, so it doesn’t bother updating the frames outside of the regular horizontal level area (in this situation 2 screens vertically) so the display above that area does not get updated, which makes it smooshed up. Like drawing an animation without erasing the last frame
For those who wonder how the trippy vertical area glitch works it happens because that part of the game is not supposed to be seen and the the developers made it so it won't render and thus not knowing what to put there the computer copies what whas there in the previous frame. This also means that if you got went underneath or past the edge of the map you would see the same thing. Btw this is used in most new games so if you go where you are not supposed to you can find the same effect.
The vertical glitch gives a cool insight on the games internal structure. It seems like the textures and background are not directly connected to the level theme, so when the glitch occurs, the game is forced to load some default “texture pack”, which in this case is an older version of the horizontal ground theme. In vertical areas, there is no background above two screens because it’s using a horizontal background. This means that nothing overwrites what’s drawn in a previous frame, creating that trail effect commonly seen in some broken computer programs or operating systems (Windows XP had a lot of this) Furthermore (yes this is taking a while) the “texture pack” seems to not be directly linked to the level theme, and only is set when the level is loaded or the theme changes. This is why all gameplay elements such as the goal, music or the night effects still work normally. Technically the original theme is still in play, it just has a different appearance
The vertical sub area one kinda looks like one if those windows xp errors

It seems like the textures and background are not directly connected to the level theme, so when the glitch occurs, the game is forced to load some default “texture pack”, which in this case is an older version of the horizontal ground theme. In vertical areas, there is no background above two screens because it’s using a horizontal background.
