Hi everyone, Thanks for watching, and I hope this is as great news to you as it was for me to test it! The release date is in a week or so from the date of this video; I either missed that in the documentation, or it wasn't there (most likely just an oversight on my behalf). Keep an eye on the link in the description; it will take you through the firmware website. Thanks again for watching and for helping us reach 40k Subscribers! 😎💙
Well done Panasonic! 👏👏👏
Nice! AF staying more on eye (even with something covering most of your face) is something I was really hoping for. Great job Panasonic!
Yep! finally they do this.Honestly i didnt believe they can fix it.
This is amazing Shane - Thank you for sharing this. I love the new stabilsation High mode - WOW!!!!
thanks for the update excited to get it done
Great move! Thanks for the info, going for the firmware update right now!! Awesome video Shane :)
👍👍👍👍👍👍
indeed
Thanks Peter. They didn’t mention (or I didn’t see) the availability date. I put a link there but some people are saying it’s next week 😊👍
@@GeekyNerdyTechy FYI - Hi Shane, when I go to the web site it tells me the firmware will be available on April 22 2024. I'll go back and get it later :)
Another great video! I love your car AF detection test! I have tonnes of diecast car models so I'm definitely going to steal your idea for my next car AF test!! 🤣
haha, no worries Richard. I got the ideas for the toy cars from your videos, so it works out fair haha. 🤣 Thanks mate!
@@GeekyNerdyTechy haha ok it's a fair trade
Congrats on 40k Shane! Great new upgrades, damn, Panasonic has really been making huge steps with lenses, cameras and firmware. Can't wait for the new Leica 'inspired' models, the 3 new registered cameras. S1H II, S1R II and another, GM1 II? That would be sweet!
Thanks for the kind words. I didn’t see it in from my test of the picture profiles. I’ll take another look but nothing was in the notes I received about it.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Side note, Ryan at Rode never got back to me after NAMM, disappointing.
Have you seen some of those great new streaming/switching mixers coming out? Black Magic has some serious competition on their hands 👍
THIS…is how you do a firmware update!
Thanks Shane! Great to hear about Stab and AF enhancements !
I have just bought a S5iiX but not used it yet so pleased the new firmware brings it close to my G9ii that I've been using for the last 6 months. Landing in Perth WA in a week's time and that'll be when I start using the new S5iiX properly for the first time.
S5iix with the rolling shutter of the a7siii and I would switch right now!!! I just can’t give it up. I really love everything else about the Panasonic 😊
Thanks for the video 👍
Great! Gonna update my s5ii later. Will have to test the autofocus, really excited about the improuvements
Check the pinned comment I posted an update about the release.
Thank you Shane for the valuable video🙏.
Seriously S5IIx it's Enjoyable Camera. Solidly Crafted For Photographers and Videographers✨
For the price it's hard, if not impossible to beat. The affordable L mount Lense selection will pull a lot of potential Canon buyers. I saw the X with the decent 50mm for just over 2k. Game changer!
I have a canon and I’m thinking about switching because of the lenses. Some of those sigma lenses are enticing
@@superstringsbro I went from Canon to the S5ii last year, very pleased with it :D I use EF glass though not Sigma yet but yea 👏
I bought my s5iix from amazon with the 20-60mm and the 85mm all for 2390.00 dollars just about month ago and now to be getting even more features I know I made the right decision
Thanks for the content Shane, i've been looking to get into the Panasonic full frame system for a while, now might be the time I think. Actually I just started getting into guitars and was amazed to find your other channel, which I probably watch more that this one now :-)
The S5II and X are fantastic. I really love using them and the image quality is about as good as it gets. :-) Cheers!
I didn't realize they fixed the human detect so you have to fully cover your eyes before it moves to the object in front. Super handy. Updating my s5iix today!
The update is out on April 22. :)
@@GeekyNerdyTechy oh yeah I completely spaced on that part lmao. Whoops
Great info! Panasonic does a nice job with firmware updates, even a year or two after a camera is released.
This new firmware update makes the S5iix even more attractive coming from Sony. (Hmm...let's see what gear I can sell...)
Great to know about the new stabe. I did laugh with your Adobe comment, couldn't agree more!
oh very nice!!! Wishing that sony has that major firmware update
I just love this new update. I was planning to leave panasonic but this is a game changer for me. The only two updates i need for the perfect camera is plane detection in the focus area and 120fps in 4K. The last one i guess is more dificult in a firmware update.
I doubt they’ll put 4k120 in here as much as I’d like to see it. Even if it’s with an APSC crop that’d be great.
Thanks for the heads up, Shane - didn't know about this update release. I own an S1H, and recommended the S5IIx to a video / streaming client about a year ago. Everyone loves it of course :D
Btw, I HATE "subscription services" too - can you recommend a Lightroom alternative?
DXO PhotoLab is frankly vastly superior to Lightroom, much better rendition of the images and you can push colours a lot better without it looking plastic. Its frankly difficult to go back to Adobe's RAW engine after using PhotoLab, it also has really good AI noise reduction if you care for such things, gives a more natural look without destroying the images.
Hi Shane, thanks for sharing. This update is nuts. The only thing I miss is the Leica monochrome picture profile that was introduced with the G9II. Is it included and maybe not mentioned?
I didn't see it in there, but there's already a few B&W options. I'll take another look.
Hello, very informative video, new sub. Does the new eye focus for people have the new little box for eye detect or it is still with the crossair?
It’s the same box as before so it will crosshairs the eye or at a distance revert back to face or body detection
Panasonic killing it again. Thanks for the video!
Great video shane as always 👍
Quick one being a uk owner you mentioned no pdaf in 1080p 50 fps i take it you mean in full and not apsc mode ?
So 1080p 50/60p does not have PDAF, but the 4K 50 and 60 frame rates from the record menu does. S&Q does not for some weird reason. I hope they fix it.
@GeekyNerdyTechy is that since the new update I film weddings exclusively and before the update I'm filming 1080p 50fps apsc mode on af which works so since the new update this is not an option now sorry if I'm asking a dumb question?
Great video! What was your FPS while walking? Is 24 good?
I’m in Australia so I shoot 25p so I don’t get issues with lights. 24p will be basically the same.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Okay! Thank you!
Nice!
Really like your content, good information, nice personality and energy! Keep it up, and yes I am excited for this firmware..
I have an S5 II (not x) and am looking forward to the improved autofocus. I only shoot 4K on that camera and was surprised to learn from you that the phase detection is not used in HD. Not too important to me, but kind of curious about that omission.
Hey! Did get to test the 1080p 50/60 fps? I was wondering if the background pulsing still present since it isn't phase detection
You will never have good AF in Lumix cameras. Because the AF test in this video is not real world. What happens is in the real world you are usually panning to find the subject if you are handheld or with sports. When you move the camera and need AF the camera has to catch with the subjects but the motion blur you are adding has to settle down. Lumix cannot keep up for some reason. So all these static AF test don't mean anything. Great AF has to track the subject as you move around it and in that physical space.
@@contentm3893Lol it does
Shane - given this firmware update, which is the better buy for video: The G9ii or the S5iiX. Both are a similar price point in AUS??
They are pretty similar. It really depends on your lens lineup or budget for lenses. The G9II has 4k120p and better overall autofocus in more modes and lighter/cheaper lenses. The S5IIX has the premium look, better low light, and active cooling.
Panasonic for the win! So good. The S5 platform is such an amazing value.
Absolutely!
Can you put a lut on the proxy and not on the big file? So you can turn around something quick with a lut on it but have regular log for further editing?
I think so!
I read an article from petapixel that said you can use the proxy with realtime lut, which is crazy cool if true.
I showed that on screen - there's an on/off toggle in the settings. :)
And now waiting gh6 to get those features. I think gh6 fw updates are lacking behind. Corner warping correction would be very helpful with my 10.5 mm woigtlander.
FOR THOSE WONDERING PUBLIC RELEASE IS APRIL 21ST
Thanks it wasn’t on my list sheet 😊👍
Can you make test stabilization s5 vs g9 after update?
I don’t understand, standard stabilization without electronic crop has also become better or did they just add an additional mode?
There’s a new mode that uses Gyro stabilisation which introduces a small crop but you get killer results.
The great thing about the pre-burst is...
That the SH never really worked because it had a lag of 0.5s before starting. I will map it to 0.5s prior so the lag will be gone without too many extra pictures.
Couple quick things:
If shooting prores to an SSD, can you then record proxies to an SD card?
Is the proxy mode available in vlog?
I am yet to fully test all of the features, I only did the basics, but I will get around to it soon.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thank you!
So the hand with the lines that says BODY is for moving, and the hand with the box around it is for “tripod” shots? I think I set that to the function button like in the tutorial but I always forget to use it lol.
To be honest I haven’t even been using the e-stabilization yet, just the straight up IBIS, and unless I start sprinting around the shake isn’t too bad, especially with the native Panasonic lenses (even the ones that don’t have built in IBIS are better for whatever reason)
The square around the hand is IS Boost Mode and the dual markers are for regular walking shots/anything else. :) I made a tutorial on this on my S5II guide video if you get stuck. It's a pretty cool feature.
You said they just released, but I believe it isn't going to be released until 4/22. Your link to the firmware still shows the older version not the new discussed in this video.
Yeah same here. I don't see the firmware update listed on the PANY firmware website. Waiting patiently though.
That’s right. I must have missed the release info on my info pack.
Should really appriciate Panasonic for this firmware update! any hopes on 4k 50 FPS without crop ?
It still has the crop, I doubt that will ever change on these cameras.
It's a Hardware limitation of the sensor itself, related to read-out speed. No camera using this 24MP sensor has 4K without crop. Canon R6 II does 4K full frame, but Canon makes their own Sensors. Sony A7SIII has no crop in 4K, but thats a 12 MP
Question, I've never done a firmware update on my S5IIX before, I'm still on firmware 1.0. I heard that I should update previous firmwares before I update the new firmware, but the Panasonics website only has the option of downloading the latest update (1.5).
Do I HAVE to update the latest firmware first or can I just update my camera with the 'New Firmware" and be ok?
Just download the latest one unless the instructions tell you otherwise from the download page. If there's any requirements before that, you'll see it on the popup pages from the website.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy appreciate the speedy response my dude👌🏾
I was happy anyway with my S5ll but firmware updates are always welcome. Just a minor criticism. Around 2:03 the Autofocus loses the white car and is switching over to the other car behind, right at the moment where you cut the video. Nothing is going to be perfect all of the time and that´s totally fine. Why not show those imperfections we will all experience anyway?
What is the actual crop factor of the e-stabilization high setting?
I haven't actually worked that out. I'll see what I can do with a controlled test. I was holding the camera in pretty much the same spot on each test so you can see the difference in the field of view.
Here's hoping for sneaky updates for other cameras (plz active estab and realtime lut for gh5m2)
have S5ii, desperately want an upgrade to the S1R (Leica 60MP sensor please!).
Also have a G9, because I love the ergonomics, and the 6k photo and post-focus mode for food photography with a macro lens (works great for social media!). I wish it comes to S5ii as the 100mm macro lens is a beaut.
I had the s5 with the post focus. I didn't understand it at the time. It and the s1r had crazy cool functionality. But this right here looks pretty damned good. I have an s5 so I'm excited.
Put this Proxy recording into the GH6 next please! Panasonic been cookin lately
how about the delay when booting up s5m2? Is it improved?
It takes about 2-3 seconds
Has anyone had an issue where after updating you cannot select the human detection mode, or face/eye detection? Post-update I can select any mode but when selecting human the options for 'target parts' are non-existent and the selection screen is just blank. I can see the options in the background if I do click in that blank screen but only behind 'This menu item can't be set' pop up.
I'm planning to reach out to Lumix but it's really a bummer in the meantime. Hoping I just have some obscure option set that isn't allowing and that it's just user error but idk, very strange.
I haven’t seen that before. It’s not on Manual focus by accident right? If not give it a full reset and see how it goes.
How is the comparison with Sony FX3 and Mark 4 with Lumix X5?
In what way?
Do they have such functions?
It won’t let me open the bin file
Unable to expand "S5m2_V30 2.bin". It is in an unsupported format.
The Bin File is the firmware - put it on your SD card and run the update in-camera.
Did they add the talley light option?
That’s a hardware feature so no.
Ah yes. I was hoping they’d use the autofocus lamp and configure it to work as a tally light
Pleasee Panasonic We need PDAF 1080 60fps :,c
hi where is the update for s5iix?
Update from Jan. 30 is last?
22.04
@@TyrantTiger85 thanks !

Hopefully this means Panny can push proxies to the GH6😅
That’s what I’m saying
Kindly Test Af at FHD 100p After Upload video
there is no new updates on their site

April 21th
@@HarRy-gc7nz maybe they fix 1080 FF 50-60p Autofocus switch?
where are the updates for the S1 !?!?!?!??!?!?!
I have a feeling that unless there's a new lens coming out, there won't be too many updates to the older S line of cameras.
Good video. But a bit concerned about lack of multiple recording formats (as earlier) on the specs page
What?
The cameras are full of codecs and options lol. What do you mean? The S5IIX can has about 50 modes.
Please check the specs page. See under 24hz
@@whyjaywonders No
How is the PHOTO autofocus now? I was shocked by how bad it was compared to video autofocus? I mean actual FOCUS, not DETECTION.
In what sort of shooting mode?
And what is the actualization number ? I have 2.4 on my S5ii and no other is available..Hell, put it in big letters in the headline that it's not available yet. For me, dislike the video
Check the pinned comment and I’ll dislike your comment to keep it fair.
It's interesting that Android software has developed well, faster , user friendly and advance . Bur Cameras has very slow software, sluggish ,not user friendly software. I bought Limux S5 Mrk II but returned it.. Your Android is 100 times more advanced ,user friendly and faster. My Android Poco F3 stabilisation is 10times better than S5M2.its shaky and wobbly It's ridiculous that we should be paying 1600£ for that kind of Camera
