EA888 I think. Had one in my S1 until some light fingered lad made off with it. A dependable mill if not the best sounding. Eventually he totalled it into a telegraph pole. Lack of morals and talent! Great video as ever Ricky and puns have their plaice.
Cheers guys wow I just love that engine room I would work for Rik for free if he was closer top bloke and his enthusiasm is just magic
Great video, loving the general chat about magazines and publishing. I was a press and motorbike photographer for nearly 15yrs..At local and regional newspapers and smaller magazines...I saw the change start to happen when imagining went digital, it was made "easier" for a reporter or a non photographer with "point and shoot" to take a quick "snap" photographic departments got smaller, "staffers" were lost, freelancers found it harder to get work. I love a good hard copy magazine, It helps you appreciate the quality of the images and lets you read in a more relaxed...I'm into bikes and over the years there have been so many magazines finish, due to the financial pressures...cost of printing, cost of staffing, advertising see online as a much more flexible way of getting trade.....it's now all about "tik tok" etc...what you look like and the "pretty people"....
Just interesting to hear Davla's point of view....
Very therapeutic build to watch....and I love the bike and racing content too...🏍️🤘
Gentlemen thank you for your time and effort putting this video together, evry much enjoy these vids.
I always make 3 dots with a paint pen or centre punch to avoid misalignment…. It is easy with just two marks viewed at different angles to look aligned but be out… three dots makes this obvious 👍
Oh... very good point, the "parallax" caper..
OH YES PLEASE...... screwing the water pump back on and you "break out the torque wrench" oh this vid keeps on giving.
Do not locktite the belt bolt at the end of the intake balance shaft. If you do so, if by any chance the water pump needs to be replaced again, it will be, 100% impossible, to remove the bolt from the engine bay. The bolt is tapered and is reverse thead, it will NOT loosen on its own.
If the bolt gets stripped you will have to pull the engine out!
so do not use threadlocker with the water pump pulley reverse thread bolt!
Engines again brilliant ! Have to agree a out Magazines, my biggest regret is getting rid of 20 years of CCC (Triple C) and CAR magazines. CCC taught me all about engines at the age of 17. At 68 would rather watch your you tube channel now 👍
We tune in because you guys are hilarious and teach is at the same time
You guys are great
Im glad to see you use red rubber grease iv been useing it for years because as we kno there is allways time for lubrication 😂
You need some 3m green roloc bristle disks for cleaning them mating surfaces. Makes life so much easier.
Great content as always been waiting for another technical video for ages
Is the valve seat cutting so accurate nowadays that there is no need to lap the valves anymore ?
Love your work , and the chat .
If watch Barum engines, they do lots of valve cutting examples.
There was nothing better than a Haynes manual got me out of a lot of trouble when i was a little younger
Fascinating, you guys are living the ‘bream’ ha ha, couldn’t help myself, cheers guys and Kate.
😂
For cleaning up the mating faces you can’t go wrong with a 3M green roloc bristle disc 👍
Got to say this has been one of my favourites videos nice to see you on the tools and chewing the cud with Dav that was also informative so 👍👍👍👍all round have a good weekend
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you
I work in a very similar way. My mates take the mickey and call me 'paint pen Ben' 😂 Don't forget to tighten that tensioner we see you only do up hand tight!
Love the video's Rick, i work at a vw dealer. If you got a new original chain you don't have to mark the balance shafts. The new chain got marks that you need to put I line with the marks on the gears. Same for the main chain but you check the piston in bdp and the distance between the marks on the camshafts. According to Elsa anyway
That press your using for them springs will take your finger off mate you should weld a handle to it well done for having your glasses on 😂👍
if you get a gates timing tool set for these engines you get a big plastic spacer for the crankshaft so when you put the bolt in the face of the sprocket doesn't get damaged
I had one of the first 2,0 tfsi Sirrocco’s in Mallorca many years ago lasted 950km and the engine shit itself, from memory I went into the Vw workshop and one of the small sprockets was missing half its teeth, happened approaching a roundabout at about 60km the Forman said the computer said the car was doing 200 kmh absolute bollocks , took them six weeks to replace the complete engine 😳
All your vids are great, but tech ones are my fav. And the general chat is great to listen to. 👍
Glad you like them! Thank you 😊
So.... It's friday night and I really enjoyed that😊 thanks boys👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you
Hi Ricky, Thanks for sharing the Golf top engine rebuild and timing chains/blade tensions. I'm still gutted after my email to you, and therefore, I am now going to stick my head into a 205lt barrel of antidepressants and chew them like smarties. As always, keep smiling Ricky and good luck at Cadwell Park. 👍👍
I liked the discussion on magazines etc 😊 keep up the good work fellas
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks!
Funny video and glad you noticed about the “so” again.
Cracking episode. Love watching that kind of content.
Thank you.
Loving the wrenching content!
Very enjoyable as always 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you
Brilliant. Thank you, and really enj' the banter :)
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you
Nice to see you working on a "normal" engine!
Hey bro and camera crew,
Always enjoy your uploads. 10/10. Watch start to finish. I'm a HGV tech and love you're tecy vids 💯👉💥
Much appreciated. Thank you for watching
You ever seen Fagan ride Glen Irwins Honda R213-VS Superbike?
Why isn't there any spring seats on cylinder head?
Love the content - but can you please sort the dreadful hum in the sound? Driving me nuts!!
What brand of paint pen do you use? Thanks
No new orings for the water hose? Come on you heathen!
Oh and a whale is not a fish as you were quite rightly corrected 😂
Loving the lab conditions of the engine room, right up my street❤
So, Great video 👍🏻
Thanks! 😃
EA888 gen 1 is what came in the mk6 GTI (CCZ). IHI turbo equivalent to a Borgwarner K03, chain etc. Badged as a TSI on the engine cover.
The screenshot of the red mk6 you flashed up was not a GTI, but a mk6 R (actually a press car that IIRC Andrew Chapple owned for a bit and I nearly bought).
VAG used the EA113 CDL in the mk6 R rather than the new EA888. Probably because it was proven in the 8P S3 at ~270bhp with Haldex and more robust than a highly strung gen 1 EA888 might have been. Apparently stronger bottom end than the BWA/AXX EA113 of the mk5 GTI, but still prone to piston ring failure at high power (I know this personally unfortunately).
They decided to stick a TSI badge on the mk6 R engine cover even though it’s an older TFSI, just to keep us guessing a bit!
the gti mk6 bottom end is almost indestructible, can take a beating.
The issue with the EA888 is the pistons and pistons rings, and the dreaded oil screens throught the engine. Almost all the components have been revised, balance shafts, cam bridge, pistons, rings, timing chain side metal cover, tensioner and even the timing chain itself.
Great Vlog (as always) best of luck at Cadwell..
Thank you
Ricky , the machine that you use for inserting the valve collets. Does the pneumatic cylinder have any speed control? Most pneumatic systems will control cylinder speed through a restriction exhaust valve on the directional control valve. I just feel the up stroke needs to be a bit slower to prevent the collets jumping out.
I loved this episode buddy, nuts, bolts , grease and tool is my bag. 👍👊
Just got mine rebuilt from a fuel wash.
That's a lot of work for an old golf. Is the owner just fond of it? Would a new engine not be cheaper given labour and parts?
If you were to put in new lifters in the mk6 gti engine would you have to drain the lifters and put them in empty or would you put them straight in from the box ?
It's the Plaice to go on a Friday
yay Technical
Hey up mate your thumbnail has just made me think of lee and he had decided to give his car proper luv rather than a shitty stamp, hope this makes sense really like way you go about your Chanel, jon
Ricky mate that is a EA888 Gen 2 engine.
Tickle to that......... lets have some "eau de Two STROKE".
You not get tired if the "plaice" 🐟🐟🐟? . All those "turbo.t ' s. Too
All of that machine just for collets?
Make sure each collet is in the right plaice ?
The dad joke episode 😂
Them water pumps in situe are a bastard
I think the idea of why car magazines fail is because they have not learnt from Cooking. Autodoc has done well because they do a video saying how to do it. Here are the tools you need and we can send this in with the parts you need. Harrys garage or 44teeth have done well as its like watching Keith Flyod in a foreign country. Car magazines and journos haven't realised that TH-cam is there to make me buy the magazine to find out more or link to buy something from the advertisers. Not just entertainment.
Love the information on your channel but please dont make me Google your club so
🤣FISH! "25,000 viewers.... that's number 3 only 15 to go...." is that an 18V head on the Golf Mk6 🤭
