    Great vid. You are giving Grant Stone some pretty great PR lol. I bought a couple pairs based on your reviews. I particularly like this one because it’s good to know how these boots are made so I know exactly what I’m getting. Nice work bro. Cobbler Sunny too. I’d take my boots to him in a heartbeat if he was in my area.

    Great work done by Sunny. I wish this guy was in Canada. Lol. I would have resoled some of my GS leather sole shoes too. Btw these boots looks really cool with the rubber sole. 👌🏼👌🏼

    Great video! I love your relationship with Sunny. So cool. Such a talented young cobbler. Questions:
    - are GS heel stacks leather?
    - where did Sunny, or the customer, get the replacement studded soles?
    - what do you use (or did Sunny use here) as an edge treatment/dressing on that natural leather?
    Thanks!

      it was sent by grant stone on customer request
      you can use neutral cream polish.

    After slipping and doing near splits thrice on a slippery & icy day, I now understand why some gentlemen immediately switch to rubber. I still cringe to see a new leather sole peeled off. I'd at least wear it for a few months.

      man i'm with ya!! i've been deliberately putting my leather soles to the test recently in the snow and ice and i find that if i walk carefully, they perform exceptionally well!!! just gotta be mindful!! i probably slip more in my commando soles because i overestimate their ability to grip the ice X-D

    Hey Dale, I been wanting to get a pair of Grant Stones. The heel looks very small. Do you mind telling me how big the heel is on the Diesel and Edward? Thank you.

    • @DalesLeatherworks

      The heel is very well sized, it’s not too big, clamps the back foot perfectly

    I personally like the look of grant stones on leather soles and have had some bad experience with dainite looking soles (i.e. Thursday’s soles). I want to ask since you have experience with all, how do you compare GS studded vs leather soles and GS studded vs dainite soles? So sad they don’t make the dune diesels on leather soles anymore 😭

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i was planning to do a video on this subject and actually should have a real boot talk where we do a full on deep-dive into it!! long story short, yes i've come to really love leather soles, they're the most supportive and comfortable in my opinion. rubber is great for the elements but not as great for you. both are awesome and serve their purpose, but leather soles get a bad rap and i hope to highlight that soon

    • @CarlosValentor
      @CarlosValentor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DalesLeatherworks i agree with you, also, unless you live like in New York (or in my case, in Mexico City) do you really walk around in the elements on your casual boots that much? Anyway, I asked GS and they said there are no plans to bring the diesel or Ottawa back on leather soles any time soon 😭

      @@DalesLeatherworks i used to prefer them as well but the main reason was that I believed the haters and never gave leather soles a chance 🤣 anyway, what do you think of GS studded soles? Have you had any bad experience with them?

    Grant stones are so uncomfortable. I've had my diesel boots with the leather sole for one week and they're making me miss my alden indys.. Will the grant stone boots get softer? If so, how long does it take? I've been wearing them 8+hours a day!

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      What sole are they on? If they’re on leather it will be stiff it first ya just gotta wear them longer and they’ll break in and become your most comfortable boot

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't conditioned it and to be honest I don't really plan to unless they start showing signs of drying out! I would be very careful using anything on it because most products will darken it up considerably

      @@DalesLeatherworks Awesome thanks! Hard to find info online on it. Didn't know if it was treated like calf skin etc or like suede. Although a dark grey kudu would be pretty cool looking I'll hold off on the conditioner for now.

  • @crucify40
    @crucify40 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't get it. Those leather soles don't look like they have any wear. They look new. Yet someone took the time to have toe plates installed and then never actually used them. And then after installing toe plates, decided to scrap the whole thing and have them resoled with rubber. Weird.

  • @taylorbailey1932

    These don't look like they had Grant Stone's typical cork filling. Am I missing something or was there no cork in the sole?

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i ***believe*** the cork filler is located right beneath the footbed. sunny replaced the midsole and the outsole, not the insole, so that's probably why it wasn't seen in the video

    I wouldn’t buy any shoe or boots with Dainite. Either get the leather or vibram. I am not sure why you did this as the leather sole was perfect to start with.

  • @mybad4858

    Why would one wear Dainite (or any imitate of it), dead ass one of 1001 way to suicide.

    • @AriHayable
      @AriHayable 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Leather in NYC is a death sentence. Subway platform, especially.
      Grant Stone doesn’t use Dainte. This is their own proprietary sole. Its density isn’t as hard as Dainite. It definitely has a better grip but will wear out faster. I think it’s a happy medium.

    • @frankrizzo7185
      @frankrizzo7185 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AriHayable is that for new leather soles or in general? I work in nyc and my leather soles of my becket simonin shoes are worn and they’re safe, but for oak bark tanned that are newer, those are dangerous compared to Dainite.
