    It is not cotton (cotton is too weak) it is linen. Natural fibers burn while synthetics (polyester or nylon) melt. They can also catch fire but will harden up once you put out the flame. Linen, although weaker then synthetics is much stronger than cotton and is what is used for leather when it comes to natural thread.

      I was thinking about getting myself a pair of diesel and stumbled upon the video.
      Wrote an email to GS and they confirmed the thread is indeed cotton...

    I have these same exact boots and personally I would be pissed if you had dyed the edge/welt the way you did in the video. I love the contrast between the tan upper and the natural leather welt.
    Nice video BTW, Cheers!

    Thank you for the great video and commentary. I wish I’d known the benefit of all the different toe plate options sooner. Two years ago I went on a date with the woman who is now my fiancé, near the middle of our date the toe plate on one of my shoes fell off after both nails were knocked off by a single impact against the side walk. I was quite embarrassed but my fiancé was quite impressed by the fact that I even bothered to protect my toes from that kind of wear. I’ve yet to try toe plates out again because my local cobblers don’t seem to offer the same kind all you TH-camr cobblers use.

      @@modernvintagelifestylesthe GS is a properly made boot with quality leather/cork insoles and midsole. It takes time to mold to your foot. Alden build is absolute crap and loaded with cheap synthetic materials. That’s why it is comfortable right out of the box. You seem fairly clueless

    Hey, what Dainite style soles are softer than Dainite soles? I've heard Vibram soles are, but I'm not sure. I want a resole with something that looks like Dainite, but have a softer step.

    Question: I wear down the outer edges of my heels a ton and have used plastic heel caps in the past but don't love them. Are there any better solutions with dainite?

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately not to much because that is first point of impact. Heel plates somewhat work but I’m not a fan of them because of how they force your ankles inward by 1/8”. Metal heel plates aren’t much of an option either as some that used to be around are no longer available and the ones that are still made or very slippery. Honestly wearing down the heel is way better then some people have it who wear out the soles faster. Replacing the heels as needed is the safest thing to do

      Trenton & Heath did a resole on a pair of YSL boots I believe and the entire heel block was plastic. Insane that the price of those boots was most likely close to $1,000 and they don’t even put stacked leather on the heels.
