As a defense attorney it’s not a matter of “taking sides”, Barba was doing his job. Plain and simple. You think John Adams was excited to be defending the British soldiers after the Boston Massacre? Absolutely not, he knew his career as a lawyer was finished after he took that case. But he did it anyway, because everyone accused of a crime has a right to a lawyer to represent them in court before a trial of a jury of their peers.
OMG Carisi’s swag as he laid more and more into Wheatley was amazing!! 😍. But I gasped when Wheatley threatened him 🥺. And yet that ‘gotcha’ smirk was priceless!!! I mean he’s been assaulted twice, now this 🥺 I mean with him being with Rollins in secret now agh I’m scared….don’t hurt my sweetheart 😩😢
Yeah barba's just a fool like how can you take Wheatley's side after being prosecuted for so long like he's just portrayed everything he stood for like most if the people who come back to svu once a traitor always a traitor.
Benson felt betrayed the moment Barba 💔 took the Wheatley case. Wheatley put a hit on Elliott and killed Kathy instead then tried to put a hit on Benson. Now that he has been acquitted he will put a hit on Carisi or kill Rollins and/or kidnap their kids. Barba admitted his feelings towards Benson in the series finale, and Benson is not having it. I like to play this over, and over and over. He loses his sh*t.
I think we still haven't gotten the true answer to "Why Kathy Stabler?" I'm sure as hell looking forward to this next arch. Angela got some 'splaining to do.
Everybody's furious with Barba for taking the case. I'm delighted, I feel this was too good of an excuse for the writers to have him back and just instantly make the episode more compelling, they couldn't very well have just any lawyer in that position and I think they simply don't care that it feels out of character. I mean, he has never been motivated by greed, maybe glory, but he would still see a mile through Wheatley being a monster. If his best reason for getting involved is 'the police are framing him because they can't prove he did it and that is wrong' it's really nothing more than a bit of a fabricated reason to create conflict with Benson, have him back in court opposite Carisi
Oh man.... He messed up big time. Threatening the prosecutor with murder in open court.... The faces of barba, carisi, captain Olivia Benson, and Angela wheatly, the jury, the judge;
No, he's not. The only 2 times Carisi "has beaten" Barba were just because Barba's clients lost their temper at court, but that isn't related to Barba's skills as a lawyer. Actually Carisi didn't even have like a win because he couldn't make the jury to found the accused guilty.
No Carisi is not. Carisi has one of the worst performances as an ADA; he was far better suited as a detective. 'Interrogating' the witness on the stand, being overly emotional explicitly, and prosecuting inflexibly almost unskillfully; these are the most unwanted characters for an ADA in an Open Trial. Carisi may have had noticeable wins but only for the merit of the case instead of his tactics or strategies. In Comparison, ADA Cabot was politically connected; ADA Novak was personally charming and always presenting cases fiercely with superior tactics and exceptional observations (e.g. season 5 citing birthstone); ADA Barba was also a remarkable tactician (e.g. Season 14 Line "Where's the Buckle?") with a very strong personality and interactions. Carisi has none of these flavours; his merit as a detective was much cleverer.
Sorry, although I love Carisi, he's no better than Barba. He couldn't win both times they faced each other, even though Barba's clients were visibly guilty. The first Barba should not win because otherwise it would be legitimizing "justice in their own hands", and even then it was not even considered a victory. And now, even with the guy threatening him, he didn't get the conviction. So no, Carisi is still no better than Barba. And neither could. Barba worked as a lawyer for 21 years. Carisi has a lot of ground to come.
