this thing doesnt happen nearly as often as the media want you to think. Stuff like this makes it ok for people to dismiss survivors, its not ok. A man is more likely to be raped themselves than face false allegations.

@@FM_1819 normally I'd agree with you, but this type of thinking is why 2.5% of rapists face any jail time in the us. Im not saying due process isn't needed, but reform most certainly is necessary. 2.5% jail time means repeat offenders happen all the time and no one cares (edited)
@@madcap3514 Like I said, I don't care if the chances are 1% or 0.01% of imprisoning an innocent person, its about the precedent in processes it leads to, and about the rights of the individual to be thought of as innocent before proven guilty. Reform should come in encouraging and facilitating victims to report the crimes as soon as possible, and give the officers the proper resources and training to investigate the case, However, this should never come at the expense of rights or the chance of jailing innocents. The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all

I think all participants in that scam should be charged for Ramsey's death. The carried out the scam, someone died as a result, so, everyone involved should be charged,
In real life they would have; a death that occurs in any way during the commission of pretty much any crime in the US is a felony level, a murder/manslaughter charge

One of the things I love about getting his series is the fact that women can be just as vile as men. There are some truly twisted ladies in this show, and this young lady was truly evil.

Maybe up until season 16 or so. The later seasons 17-23 is all men=bad women=victims. I feel like the earlier seasons were less biased.
In all of the L&O universe, Nicole Wallace from Criminal Intent was probably one of the evilest women in the show. Just a cold-blooded murderer.
I mean it's the media nowadays that make men out to be evil 100% of the time and women to be sweet angels, to meet the feminist agenda that all men should be executed, although that point is an extreme and not many feminists think that harshly towards men, but most see men as vile. I agree that this show was a great demonstration of equality, showing both genders being victims and horrible crooks.

because they are suspects, not convicted yet. it is the correct way to word it, plus if the suspect proves innocent, they can sue the news outlets for defamation, slander, etc (or libel if they are in the UK).

Indeed. I almost got my previous station sued for saying a cold case had been solved, quoting the police. If it weren’t for DNA evidence, he could’ve been written off and I could’ve shut down the station. Whoops.

Poor Ramsay, he was innocent but due to his record, being under the registry, plus Siobhan looking the way she did NOBODY would believe him, and he was killed in a slow and PAINFUL way🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
What's worse is (spoiler for the ep) it seems that he didn't commit the crime that got him on the registry in the first place. His former victim (if I can remember correctly) said she wasn't raped but her parents reported the crime or something like that.

another case of hers i liked is when a man who had pyke disease was licking, chewing on cars he had when he was a kid had lead in the paint which caused he brain to not fully developed and killed someone, she got the owner of the company on the stand and revealed that he WAS STILL using lead and got him red handed and sent to jail

I just went and watched the full episode and I am beyond livid. These people are disgusting; and the detectives treated Russell so poorly when he begged them for help. I'm sincerely disappointed in every single one of them.
Oh the police/detectives in this show are always pigs. Specially in the main series, specially the recent remake episodes, slightly ok on SVU, and some are good some aren’t on criminal intent but I find that spinoff to be most tolerable.
Right! I was in recovery from surgery in 2019 when I first saw this, and the whole thing had me so pissed my BP went up 😅. Disguting, seriously.
Hopefully Russell's rapists/murderers were given life-sentences after the poor guy was beaten, raped and murder in the joint.

This episode stuck with me for a long time. They treated Russel so bad even though he kept begging for help because he was being raped in jail. I am not comforted by Siobhan going to jail in the end but at least she didn't only get probation.

@@marcustaylor4466 It was never about winning though. It is getting justice. There were never a win or lose situation with them nor with the ADA.
As much as I sometimes hate the way they handle things because of their personal judgment, the SVU and especially ADA are bounded by laws and people who watch them.
That's why I enjoy episodes where they rebel on their profession and correct their mistakes. I also enjoy the episodes that they were eaten up by their guilt but they have to move forward so they can do their jobs. Make them more human than just decorated cops or ADA.

As someone who grew up, and still lives in the boondocks of North Carolina, I can say that they really nailed the southern hick accent 👌 I and my whole family sound just like this girl and it’s honestly really annoying to hear just how well she faked that country accent. Most people would think it’s way too thick and fake, but it’s actually spot on.
It's completely spot-on :) I grew up in Western North Carolina and spent way too many years working in retail...her accent was a dead ringer for a lot of my customers.
Is there a difference in accents between rural North Carolina and rural South Carolina? I mean, can people from those states tell which state someone is from just by hearing their accent? Or is it pretty much the same?

If I'm remembering this episode right, I think Munch felt bad at the end; something to do with Ramsey having a girlfriend I think. But In real life, I get the feeling society wouldn't care too much about Ramsey dying like that either way since he was on the registry in the first place.

I know the lady led his death, but throughout the whole episode, they didn't believe a word he said then he DIED. It's unfair. It's injustice.

Saw this episode the other day on the ion SVU marathon and boy was it satisfying to watch her get hers.

@@danaabel1049 - I had to think about what this was about from a year ago. haha. When deals are made for immunity, they don't give immunity based on specific causes of action. She'd be given immunity based on any crimes that came from the actions for which immunity was granted.
The whole reason this is done is to prevent prosecution from tricking people into accepting immunity in exchange for testimony then locking them up anyway. Otherwise, no deals would ever be given.
Without her testimony, they wouldn't have been able to move against her co-conspirators. That is the benefit to the prosecution. They aren't permitted to then trick the person they gave immunity to.
This is the same reason Bill Cosby was released....he was given immunity in 2005 and then they prosecuted him anyway for other crimes that came from the same set of facts. It's just not allowed.

I remember this episode, it made me hate the woman cop. When she arrested the guy she said he said he didn’t do it and there’s no evidence, to which she claimed she didn’t need evidence because she had a young girls word.

The detective was obviously floored that he was trying to use her as his alibi. I mean thats gotta be a clue that *something* isn't right.

The reason he went under cover, is because each of the con family already met 2 of the detectives. So, if 1 of them went under cover, someone from the family would recognize. So, Cragen went because they never met him nor know him.

Ah, it was this episode...
The character of Mr. Tupper is an Actuary - a statistician who works with insurance companies to determine risks and uncertainty. They're usually seen as somewhat dull and boring, and he was played brilliantly by Brian Connors in the episode as monotone and completely neutral throughout. The scene I remember, though, was this:
Stabler: So, you're the one who determines how much a person's life is worth
Tupper: I am the one who determines the actuarial tables, yes
Stabler: So, how much is a dead cop worth?
Tupper: (Completely monotone and unphased) I'll need age and rank at time of death.
I love how Cragen pretends to be Tupper's boss. "Thank you Tupper. You can go." Sounds just like a snotty boss talking down to a lower-level employee. Very realistic.

6:45 The detective belongs behind bars as well because they're just as guilty as she is. Not once did they look into his side of the story and just arrested him.
It was one of the best SVU episodes.
Yeah.....I don't think this would work. She was still compelled to provide testimony incriminating herself under the provisions of a no prosecution plea bargain. Using that testimony as the basis of a criminal case even one indirectly connected is still likely a non-starter.
I find it funny that they gloss over that the detective protagonists are also at least somewhat responsible for Ramsey's death in this story.
This is absurd. There’s no way they could walk in and do that. Deals like this always cover charges stemming from the underlying action. They couldn’t take her agreeing to the deal and then arrest her for something so closely related to her allocution when she literally only allocated for immunity. Fun fantasy. But fantasy nonetheless. A penny lawyer could win her case.
Well the problem is that her cause was things like fraud, etc. Not Manslaughter which is a whole different tier of crimes. If you get a plea deal for robbery sure they might give you immunity for the guy you punched out in the commission of the crime. But not for the guy you murdered before the crime to get the car. They would consider is a separate act. Like this, they considered the lying to the police as different from lying to the guy she was defrauding.
@@TheLastSane1 my point is they could only charge her if they had other evidence. They could not use her allocution made as part of a plea deal, to charge her with another crime. They might take it as a “ah ha!” Moment and start and investigation. But they couldn’t use the statements she made during the allocution
They can actually charge her, she had been sentenced to probation. The police had discovered proof of her lies; a man died in jail because of her lies. She has breached her probation by filing a false report. It's called probation violation,a police or parole officer can take her into custody to serve her 5 years. If the prosecutor gets a conviction for manslaughter; with the aggravating factors she's looking at 8 years in state prison.

As satisfying as this is, I find it highly doubtful they could actually convict her of manslaughter for Ramsey's death.
It was the county's job to protect him in prison, not hers. His crimes should not have been known to the general population in the first place, and if they were, he should've been in protective custody- especially after he reported being assaulted. Convicting her of manslaughter would open up a huge can of legal worms, with every convict angling to see the witnesses/victims of their crimes, legally harassed for the injuries they suffer in prison. It would never work.
It's a snitches get stitches thing in prison.
But yeah it's irritating that he didn't get protected.
If he hadn't been falsely accused, he wouldn't be in lock up, and therefore wouldn't need protection.
