The subtle hints of him projecting questions, asking him how he has been, so that maybe he can be asked how he is doing. But also giving his belongings to him before he left, really makes it more emotional and true. Great message to everyone about mental health.

yeah I only noticed that the second time watching it and it's genuinely startling how obvious those things seem in hindsight, whilst being so easy to miss at the same time. a beautiful representation of how differently depression can present, and how that whole "it's never the ones you'd expect" thing has some truth to it

I've talked to many who identify with what I term '"perfectly hidden depression" and this football club has depicted it so tragically and so well. Or I've talked with their widows, grieving parents, or shocked and confused friends. And I teach this to mental health clinicians: the question shouldn't only be, "Do you feel suicidal?" but, "If you were hopeless, if you were thinking about killing yourself, would you tell anyone?" The answer would be "no." And that answer offers a tiny but important clue. Thanks so much to Norwich.

I teach nursing students and our curriculum requires us to push the prioritization of asking patients if they are having suicidal tendencies or thoughts. I really really like how you worded that there and I will be passing that along to my clinical students. I participate in Movember every year and exactly what you said is something that explains the rate of suicide amongst males. Thank you for that and what you do.

The first time you watch it, the ending blindsides you. If you watch it a second time, you see all the hints; him constantly asking how life has been for his buddy to ask the same, him stating "well, I hope things are better outside of the football," and him finally leaving behind his prized possessions with his friend.
    Powerful storytelling.

As someone with 10+ years of major clinical depression, I can't begin to tell you how accurate this portrayal is.

I had depressions when I was a teenager. I did a lot to get rid of them, it took a lot of effort and therapy. Validation of close people's opinions about me helped me a lot. When I say "validation" means you have to stop toxic traits and self esteem about yourself and paying more attention to what your family or friends say about you. At the end of the day, if they wanna talk or stay at your side, it means you are more worthy than you think.

Depression affects us all differently. I personally can’t remember a time when I was genuinely happy and don’t look forward to anything in life at this point. So moving and powerful! Everyone needs to see this! Thank you Norwich FC for producing this!
Especially with men in the UK, we are so still instilled with the "Stiff upper lip", "grin and bear it", "man up" and "grow a pair" attitudes, that we don't talk to someone until it's too late.

I was the one people came to for advice or a smile. Inside, sometimes I felt great, mostly I felt like a joy imposter because that’s not how I felt.
I keep asking myself what’s the point of having to buy a house, take a job I don’t like because of needing money and on and on. What I’ve come to realize is what I keep asking myself is, what’s the point of me? Like you, I maintain by looking to future possibilities - hope. Intellectual reasons like, people around you love you, you matter to your community (I’ve done a lot of community organizing over the years), you’ll hurt the people around you if you go, etc. are good but it’s how I FEEL that’s the issue. I’m a smart guy and know these things but being smart doesn’t “fix” my feelings. I’ve started opening up to some people who are close to me about some of my “darker” feelings. It’s so not easy but it’s something I am doing, using resources outside of myself, because I’m hopeful I’ll start feeling I have a point to myself. Big virtual hugs. B

I was 17 years of age when my father lost his battle.. We were both kopites, as he passed his passion down to me from a early age.. Not a day goes by without me missing him, especially singing YNWA with him at kickoff on gameday.. The one thing he always wore all the way until the end was his smile and his empathy.. I had my suspicions, and tried to show all the love I could for him in the end, hoping I could heal whatever he wasn’t telling me about.. But his wounds weren’t mine to heal, and he lost his fight. This really hits home, as my dad always sang the loudest and roared the highest at our last match together. It’s always the brightest stars that hides the biggest shadows. To everyone sitting alone with their dark thoughts.. I love you, and so do so many others.. Please reach out, and I can ensure no matter our intrests, differences.. Then we’ll make sure you’ll never walk alone!❤️

This video gave me goosebumps and cry. Almost a year ago to the day I was this man, happy on the outside and depressed inside, I was found in bed in tears just not knowing how to explain how I felt or even why I felt it, but everything felt hollow.
This video is so important and so is the talk around it. If you’re struggling, please try and talk to someone, anyone. It will be hard, you will struggle to find the words and you’ll probably even try to convince yourself that what you’re saying/feeling is wrong, but it’s okay. People who love you, will still love you even when you’re struggling.
One year later and I’m in such a better place, I’m even able to help people who have depression because I now understand so much more about it. It’s a battle but one that is so worth coming out the other side, so good luck to you, you can do it.

Goosebumps indeed. Unexpected ending, when watching for the first time.
Tells us the importance of mental well being. Slowly and steadily now there is more awareness of mental well being as compared to last decade.
It's all about our ability to handle ourselves well, especially at an emotional level, which primarily requires understanding ourselves. Solitude helps.
(It's just one of the ways when you are curious and ready for experimentation on the self in the process of exploration).
Understanding ourselves deeply (which is a never ending process), is actually all about self realizations from our life experiences, it is actually self reliance, taking care of oneself, but still it's ignored at mass level.

As someone who struggles with mild depression and anxiety I knew exactly where they were going. The ‘grumpy’ guy is the red herring while the happy guy trying to make conversation, asking how life’s going, gives away his scarf for a team he loves, and said seeing them win was worth sticking around for. Still didn’t lessen the impact of the reveal 😢 often times the people smiling are hiding the most pain…

Something that i'm not sure people spotted is the change in jersey from the usual yellow one to the purple one. If i'm not wrong, that one is the 'sudden change in appearance' symptom. This video is incredible in the way it showcases all the signs a person is struggling. A sudden change in appearance and giving away possessions are well documented signs. I'm not really a football guy, but to the people who made this possible, hats off.

Years ago I worked for an insurance company in the city (not Aviva), I was in my late 20's and worked with a guy called Kev, he was a bit younger than me.
He was well into his music, he had DJ'd up north and had built up a small following here too.
Bad stuff happened in Kev's life but he always went out of his way to talk to people and put others first.
Kev ended up in a bad situation and took his own life. He walked out of work one day, but before he did, he turned to me, gave half a smile and waved. I waved back...
A few days later we found out he'd passed away. He only worked with us for about 3 months and I didn't know him outside of work beyond his music and some of his unfortunatel issues he'd mentioned..
I think about him sometimes, even now, 15 years later. I hope he found his peace.

That's what I do for a living, writing commercials and videos and contents, and sometimes I struggle thinking about how much I do not care about what I do, and how little is the impact of the things that I do and write. Then, once every couple of years, I stumble in things like this, and I remember why I've started back then. Using these tools to do something with a huge impact like this, something that actually matters, is the very sense of copywriting. I hope one day I'll be proudly signing something this beautiful. Great job for a very sensitive yet fundamental theme.

Well said, but I guess we can all make a difference, no matter what profession we re in. Too bad we often forget it.

Depression cuts off any love for people or for yourself, it’s an inner torment where your mind turns against you. Life is joyless, you lose your sense of humour, you feel agitated, you may have bad insomnia too. You can lose your appetite and lie in bed all day feeling agitated but knowing that getting up doesn’t solve things.
The days feel endless and when you wake at 4 am you panic knowing you have another long day to get through. You can feel terrified and that you may have to go up to hospital even if you’ve been in hospital before because the panic at how desperate you feel sets in and you don’t know what else to do. Feeling sui cidal is terrifying

Cheltenham Town fan here, and mental health struggler for many years. This really got to me.
I’m going through counselling and therapy right now as I finally admitted I needed help and I’m better for it. Well done Norwich. I hope other clubs and supporters take note. You are never alone. Always reach out if you’re struggling. Please. Don’t struggle in silence.

@@fleamcbaggins3087 you have just not found the right person to talk to yet. Try talking to many people, even strangers. Personally I find it helps. There is always someone to talk to. You've got this!

Hey from Germany! This video is absolutely amazing. I recognised myself in the right guy and know what it’s like to show the world my best side but feel like death is better than life. It isn’t always easy but life is a gift and we need to appreciate every moment. Even the bad ones.

It can b difficult when ur life is chalked full of character building moments. I assume it would b easier with someone to confide in but the honest truth is ppl dont care about things that dont impact them directly. Hence y ppl r soooo sad when someone commits suicide, they saw the signs but didnt care enough to help...

Really powerful video! The ending was not what I expected... the person, who visibly looked distant and struggling was the one left! Such an important message!! Fair play to Norwich for producing such a video, from an Ipswich fan... 💙💙 rivalries aside, that was extremely worthwhile!
