    This is a long term review of the insta360 one x2. I show sample vlog footage from the One X2, I test the cinovia external mic adapter with Rode video mic go, and I also show sample footage of deep track and flowstate stabilization. Is the Insta 360 One X2 good for vlogging? How is the internal audio? I test all of that and show my results in the video. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for more 360 videos such as matterport tutorials and review. Cheers!

    The problem with voice control is that it won't change modes - You have to preselect photo or video mode, which is a pain and restrictive compared to other voice controlled cameras.

    Great Review! Really enjoyed this video and it was very well thought through with some good points. Especially like how you separate and clarify the different pro-sumer expectations and clarify that this isn't a tool for professional applications, but more a vlogging and fun tool. Really helped to clear up some questions that I had, and now I can more effectively target my equipment purchases & budget. Thanks!

    I am waffling between this 360 cam or a DJI Osmo 2 for my wife to use on our vlogging adventures. Tilting toward the 360 because of versatility and potential fun driving footage as we travel cross-country.

      I actually love the Osmo action and the pocket 2. I’d make the argument that the osmo is better for vlogging because the work flow in post processing is much easier and faster than the 360. And better 4K footage. Check out my channel, I have a video on a blog setup for the osmo action.

    Super interesting that you mentioned VR 360, I've been recently getting into it and really like how good the one x2 is for this in terms of workflow. I had a gopro Fusion before and it was awfully painful to get footage and start processing. If anyone's interested I've been doing 360 video VR stuff on an app called Driftspace. Pretty cool so far, and I've been making interactive 360 videos.

    3:48 the "invisible 360 stick" is a marketing gimmick... any stick that doesn't 'protrude' beyond the FOV of the stiching will work. A literal stick, if straight enough, will work. Also works with other 360 cameras not only the One X2. I own the One X2 and an old Samsung 360, 1st gen, and it works even with that old camera.

    I have been playing around with this and it is such a cool device. I think you should not do anything that breaks the illusion so I would not use any external audio or other attachments. I think linear is best for vlogging. I put the lens shield on it before I ever cut it on. Essential I think.I get it is not cinematic but it allows you to focus on creating content. Yes it is not Casey running around with a massive DSLR, but for online use it looks great and I think most DSLRs are overkill for most uses. I agree it is not perfect but I think it makes you think different about the creative process and delivers on the idea of a camera crew in your pocket.

    Congratulations on the review! I still have one doubt: since the original files seem to be quite heavy, is there a way to 'shorten' them to discard what we know we are not going to use? Either on camera or on the computer, on a trip you can accumulate a lot and it would be interesting to be able to optimize space, like we do when shorten files on our phones... especially if we plan to edit at the end of the trip when we get home. Thanks for your help!!!

    • @DominicPhillip
      @DominicPhillip  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Ariel, that's a great point you bring up. To my knowledge, I don't think there is an option to optimize storage and cut down on data saved. That sounds like an amazing option if they could pull it off, but from what I see so far you're stuck with what's recorded in body. On a trip this can definitely be problematic, I think you'll have to stick with the old school dumping footage on an external drive to save. Thanks for watching!

    • @roadkillscjim
      @roadkillscjim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      external hard drives to archive raw footage. Imagine your vacation to well...anywhere...5 years later you could go and reframe the same file for fresh view instead of the same images you know by heart.

    Have to agree with you, great for action cam fun stuff, you can use a product called Rain.X which is a rain repellent on the lens for water sports and works well on both this camera and Go Pros, I bought it to use with a selfy stick on a windsurfing waste harness, it’s been fiddly to get it set up and had to buy a case so can use a tie on rope incase it comes off the base screw, also do not like the Decks top software compared to others. I leave stick on my lens guards till I come to use it as not waterproof.

      @@DominicPhillip yes but beware, windsurfing can and is super addictive lol, I you di try it it can be frustrating at first, bigger wider more volume boards are perfect for beginners as much easier to keep your balance whilst you learn the techniques, inland flat water is easier than the sea to start with and only go on light to moderate wind days to get the feel for it, it’s one of those recreational sports that your find lots of friendly people to get lots of advice from pretty much most places in the world as every as been there when starting out, hope you do get to try it and love it 😀😀😀😀😀,

    Thank you for mentioning the desktop software is terrible. Personally I don’t want to transfer 100gb of video to my phone for editing. I haven’t tried the iPad, maybe it would be better.
    But I want to setup waypoints and flights on a File and then save them (you can’t on desktop today). You can only render it out and then lose your changes.
    I am planning to use it for Motorcycle vlog. I don’t like the single GoPro pointed at me or forward. I like being able to spin the camera around to show people where I am, or what I am seeing. I won’t use it for audio, have separate system for that.

    My channel started 12 years ago, inspired by a cheap sd flip cam I found in a Walmart bargain bin. Quality was brutally bad by today's standards...BUT the cam was so easy to use and SO easy to create....the one X2 feels like that again, that wide eyed rush of inspiration to create again. Buying one ASAP...Not worried about the 1080p export, the quality of what I produce will massively jump just on inspiration alone. My channel has gotten stale, boring, low quality...I just don't care that much anymore, doing a thing out of dull habit. This cam can break my rut...

    Hi, I have a question I really hope you can help me with. I purchased the Insta360 one x2 to use for real estate photography and all the interior photos come out bowed. Is there a way to fix that or a setting to keep it from happening that you can share with me? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. Victoria

    • @DominicPhillip
      @DominicPhillip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes happy to help. So I found that using "Pure shot" setting in standard photo mode is best. It shoots a bunch of photos, brackets them together in HDR, and you can even have AI edits done in post. But those photo settings are best for 360 photos that you'll need for real estate. You can edit down the wide angle modes and bowed out look in post using the insta360 app, but I think you'll want full 360 degree photos if you're doing interior tours. If you just want interior photos, not interactive matter port tours, than make sure you shooting in the narrowest setting possible, and keep the iso down by turning on all lights and opening up windows. Honestly though, if you're doing interior shots for listings or what not I'd recommend going to a dslr or mirrorless camera with a bigger sensor and something like a 28mm or 24mm lens. Hope this is helpful!

      Hey, to be honest I'm not an android user so I'm not familiar with their software specifically. But I can tell you for sure that you need to run the footage through the insta360 app first before any other editing software. The file formats are proprietary to Insta.

    Mine failed after being underwater for the first time. It was fully sealed and water got into one camera. Electronics continue to work except one camera. They said they would have to look at my camera in the USA to expidite, but they coordinated shipping so I have to send it back to the factory in Hong Gong to be looked it.
    I would stick with GoPro, they have much better desktop software. Insta360 desktop software is awful. Maybe I'll have a working unit by Fall.

    The Insta360 one x2 was recommended to me by the reviews manager of an IT magazine after I told him that I cannot understand the language used in his review, and explained my difficulty with modern technology.
    Taking his advice was a mistake because he clearly cannot imagine what it is like to be old and infirm.
    Touch screen: only useful if you have near perfect vision and can use other touch screens effectively; for me it is practically useless.
    Voice control: I have tried it dozens of times and I have no idea why it does not work for me, and it is down to luck whether I record photos or videos or nothing at all using the buttons.
    Resolution: you may as well have been talking Klingon for all the sense I made of your explanation.
    IOS app: I struggle to do anything with my phone because the touch screen is too small for my vision and for my arthritic fingers and significant tremor.
    Why are such devices designed only for young people?
    I have since found that I could have bought ten action cameras that I can use easily for the price of the one x2.
    I have since bought two cameras that each have two easily accessible buttons that record all I need.
    I still keep trying with the one x2, but I will probably give it to one of our children or grandchildren.

    • @DominicPhillip
      @DominicPhillip  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Frank, and sorry to hear you're having issues with the one x2. I agree with you, the design of this camera isn't the best. If you don't use the full 360 degree shooting and editing, I definitely recommend an action camera like the Gopro or the Insta360 One RS. Those are both much easier and more intuitive to use, especially when editing.
