The Insta 360 X2 for me is nice because I am not in love with the thought of editing for several hours. The footage should be impressive enough for everyone that doesn't want to be a pro.

'Shouldn't upgrade' from One X REALLY depends on your usage scenario I think - my main use is outdoors, esp snow and near water. Using a case is really annoying and stitch lines suffer. As well as the screen I believe this also has voice control so no more dreadful remote controller. Bigger battery...again snow/outdoors use, yes please. Hopefully you won't need Insta's proprietary cable to dump footage etc to an iPhone any more either. For my needs as a One X owner, selling the One X plus accessories at a decent price makes this a totally worthwhile upgrade - better features and screen visibility =time/stress saved, less damage risk (hopefully) and less stuff to carry around/lose adds up to an upgrade here.

Great video! But there are many things that I don't agree. I saw other reviews and the image quality improved quite a lot, especially in coloring and bitrate. They also improved the lenses, not exact same material as R or X. If you compare with other cameras like one r, one x and gopro Max you can clearly see the difference in the bitrate, there are some reviewers testing it on mountain bike and the details on X2 are much better
Hey, Ben. I bought the X2 as my first-ever 360 camera, and you could say I'm a happy camper. Never thought I'd spend so much on any camera in general, but I am enjoying new ways to share my experiences and just have fun taking unique photos. Love your collection of Tiny Planet shots on the wall!
As a gopro max owner I am planning to upgrade to the X2. The max might do better at strait action video but the hdr, raw video and photo modes make it a compelling buy.
Thanks Ben It was a really clarifying review... I’m still deciding which will be my first 360 camera, the One r or the X2... I’m looking for 360 camera to do city tours and giving some different footage and pictures to my clients... Can yo test and compare the Starlapse feature between One r and One x2? Thanks
The ethics issue is a big one for me. I had the X and had no issues with it, but I wanted some of the new features that as you stated were available for a short time to the X before they changed the apps. There's no reason at all why the new features in the shot lab are limited to the X2 other than greed to get people to upgrade to the X2. Well it finally worked. I sold my X on eBay and paid the difference to upgrade to the X2. It is a better camera for a lot of reasons (which you covered) but their business practices need to be improved in order to maintain customer loyalty. Basically they're saying that you have to upgrade (even if there's no logical reason to do so) in order to get the new features. Also, waiting 2 years for the X2 from the X and there aren't any upgrades to the camera? Shame on them. In 1 or 2 years they'll be at it again with the X3--but hopefully they'll release the 8K version (of course after releasing the R2 with 8K 9 months before the X3). Insane...
Not just ethics it’s environmental. Like a lot of business models, they are creating waste by pushing people to upgrade when they really shouldn’t need to, especially when there is no physical reason to do so and it’s just firmware/software. All the techs companies are guilty of this and it’s shameful.
@@TransportationTravels Agree about the environment impact from these upgrade strategies. They should offer a software upgrade path for original One X owners to access the new features, that way, they make money and reduce the e-waste.
As someone who has often used the original ONE X for work applications (roundtable discussions, concerts, videography with reframe), I see quite a few reasons to upgrade. H265 recording itself (along with the new sharping from the R) is a big plus - but then to have the screen for quick stitch line and exposure checks; AirPod mic support, Multiview (does it create two separate MP4s?) and steady cam mode (baked in video like this can't be understated with quick turnarounds) for videography purposes, and generally improved built-in reference audio and water resistance all sweeten the deal. I certainly agree with your issue about insta360 claiming certain effects being tied to specific cameras, however I never use them to begin with. Just my perspective.
12.30 amazing for mentioning it mate!!!! It is unethical not giving previous owners firmware simple updates such as shot labs! Best insta 360 one x 2 video on TH-cam
I like how you stated it's not a major upgrade upfront in the Start. I wish this had 5k 60fps atleast. In many ways this seems like what GoPro did with max - similar resolution with some updates like the hero mode / steady cam mode.
I just bought it as my my first 360 camera too, makes it easy to film lazy TH-cam content haha 😂. Maybe not worth an upgrade from the one R and one X but good for the first one.
Waterproof and being less reliant on the app when shooting is enough to warrant the upgrade for me. Also, while I get where you are coming from with limiting some software features to the newer cameras I don't have an ethical problem with that because when you buy the camera you are also buying the software. What I do think would be smart though is for Insta360 to let you upgrade your software for a reasonable price. I mean I'd probably be willing to spend twenty, or thirty dollars to gain access to the new features and it's reasonable for them to be able to recoup ongoing development costs.
As my FIRST and LOW budget 360 camera for virtual tours, wich one do you recomend between Insta360 One X2 and the Theta Ricoh SC2??. Is it worthy the extra cash for the X2?
@@danieljefford6497 thanks to Ben adding chapters I jumped to the conclusion and his summary which captures the essence of his review beautifully. The technical details of the new cam have already been captured in other videos but Ben's seems unbiased and honest.
How about the stitching quality from the x2? I just bought the one R and I am not really happy with the stich. Not that I want to send mine back, but I am just curious. There is another thing that I am waiting for one the One R, the (180) 3D mount. That was one of the reasons to buy the one R. So the one R is more versatile than the X2.
Omg thanks, finally, someone said it, I'm sick of the "invisibile selfie stick" marketing I did had that with the Samsung 360 before insta360 even existed.
The lazy ass @mattih Matti Haapoja just made a payed review of this camera and after watching this you realise the difference between a legit review and payed one, also seems many big youtubers are overrated, great work bro keep it up
I didn't even bother watching that one. When the cam came out, I specifically chose to watch videos of people who have years of experience using 360 and action cams. They'd know better like you've seen in this video
Liked your unbiased review, atleast they should have increased still image resolution, and kept charging port open without that flap, it will be quite inconvenient using while charging!
Agree totally with you Ben, I have most of the Insta360 cameras but will not be adding this to my camera bag. Excellent choice if you don't own a 360 camera but no wow feature to make me want to upgrade. Very fair and honest review.
Absolutely on point re the questionable ethics with their effects. I bought into Insta360 initially, right up to and including the One X and the 360 GO, but as soon as I got wind of the _questionable_ restrictions, my money stayed in my pocket. I’ve seen _dozens upon dozens_ of folks adopting the same mindset. How regrettable. The auto-waterproof status is really appealing (game changer for what I do) but once the trust is damaged, well, it’s damaged. Their solution would be an apology, a change of stance and let’s all move forward. How refreshing would that be 😁🤩🤞
Agree with you on the price - it's really weirdly priced against the OneR. Appreciate that some might like one form factor over another, but from a pure price/capability point of view it's an odd choice.
Thank you for making a point on how ethical it is to restrict access of certain software features to perfectly capable older cameras. Today they released an update to the app and now OneX has access to some of the effects and hopefully to all of them in the future.
Thanks Ben, you saved me $429. I love my One R and was going to buy the One X 2 under the assumption that I was going to get some great new features. You consistently provide the most honest and thorough analysis of 360 products and content. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Ben for the honesty, I feel the same way about their marketing wonders, and after hearing your thoughts, I think I won't upgrade from my beloved One X, until something really new comes out from them :)

Hey Ben, thank you for another excellent, unbiased and insight-packed video. 🙏🏻 I personally am very disappointed: just like you, I was expecting to see a major step up in image quality allowing for better indoor and low light footage. What a let down... also, the audio sounds better but the improvements could/should have been more significant IMHO. I guess I should thank Insta360 as I now have no hesitation skipping buying this device. Keep up the great work! Cheers trom London, Christophe

Ben!!! I need your help! I've got the Insta360 One x2 and having issues with taking pictures with bright ceiling lights. The photos come out way over exposed on top where the lights are. What settings do you suggest using for brights lights (no windows) to make the room more welcoming? Or am I am able to use a software to help even out the light? I need to get this tour to a customer and want to make sure it looks it's best! Thank you for your time. You have very helpful TH-cam videos!
I dont agree. The photo/sound/stiching quality and stabilization of the One X2 is better than the regular one X and one R. Yesterday i have watched the reviews of 360rumors and creator up and they adressed quite some positive things about the X2. The ai editing for virtual tours is awsome. The Z1 images are slightly more detailed but it takes more time to edit them to get similar results.
great video, i agree. insta 360 is great with effects on the apps. i wish they would not keep one from being able to use one or the other depending on your camera either
Thanks for the honest review. Those companies are getting more greedy everyday. I still use the one x with the older one r app that allows those lab shots 😀 Congrats on the 100k 👏
More greedy how? If you don't want it don't buy it. I think the fact you don't need a waterproof case plus longer battery life in itself represents a cost saving. Not what you hoped for and greedy aren't the same thing.
@@dobbatron The one r new has very similar internals as the older one x. But they blocked all the new app features and claimed it was because of hardware limitations. Insta360 is just doing what Apple is doing, releasing a new 360 camera/phone with no real upgrades or improvements while removing some essential items. You're right Ben, there are complaints in the comment section alright.
I only own an ipad but Apple release updates for as long as the hardware supports it - often 4 to 5 years where you get new features. The new hardware they release is much power powerful than android, useful if maybe you edit on your phone - like some journalists etc
THANK YOU BEN. I watched a few other X2 videos first, but yours perfectly encapsulated what I was thinking... that I already have a One X and waterproof housing, etc, so there's no compelling reasons to get the X2
I was wondering where you've been all day long yesterday !!! ;D Many thanks for the "much" awaited review, and may I add the ONE review I wanted to hear. Cheers
they shouldve just made this a step up and still sell the one x at a reduced cost. this is a fix of the one x, although good, its still not budget friendly. we need a good budget 360 below $300.
Who would buy the One X2 if the One X was available at a knock down price? How would they fund the development of the next camera if their profits are reduced?
@@geekinthegarden3927 if a person is buying the one x and sees that the x2 is waterproof, that can lead people to buy the x2 rather. if they reduce the price they can get more buyers and make more profit due to more sales, than having the prices that high.
Ben, after seeing a ton of reviews on the One X2 since yesterday that just gush how "absolutely amazing and perfect" this 360 camera is (despite the obvious elephant in the room regarding specs), all I can say is that you, as always, provide an opinion that consumers can 100% trust. Not that I have the same opinion as you (I do), but to also provide truth to the advertising and marketing of all the cam companies, not just Arashi Vision, is simply fantastic and appreciated. Now, GoPro typically provides a reduced bundle price or give a price reduction on their products most holiday seasons; I wonder if Arashi Vision will do the same? If they do, I'll be using your link in the description to buy the One X2! Thanks for all you do, Ben, and we look forward to your full review!
Is there a video out signal we can use for FPV flying? Everyone is using 2 cameras on their drones and fixed wings, one hi res recorder, and one low res for live feed. It would be nice if one 360 camera could do both.

Thank you for an objective review, Ben! I see One X2 has the card slot in the battery compartment? Do you have to take out the battery to pull out microSD? With my One X, I can't take out the card when it is on a tripod or Arca-Swiss plate, which is annoying. So I connect USB to transfer the files instead. Hey, Ben. Nice in-depth review of the of the Insta360 ONE X2! Would you get the X2 or Theta Z1 for creating virtual tours? Insane...
Ive just sold my one x for that reason....
Is this not true for GoPro as well? It looks like an industry standard for me
Not just ethics it’s environmental. Like a lot of business models, they are creating waste by pushing people to upgrade when they really shouldn’t need to, especially when there is no physical reason to do so and it’s just firmware/software. All the techs companies are guilty of this and it’s shameful.
It people don't buy new cameras you loose the r & d funding and don't get awesome new cameras. And the managers don't get a new car every year...
@@TransportationTravels Agree about the environment impact from these upgrade strategies. They should offer a software upgrade path for original One X owners to access the new features, that way, they make money and reduce the e-waste.
You're the best reviewer for 360 bruh. Truthful and practical!
Congrats on 100k!!!
Thanks!
Thanks Ben for the straight to the point and upfront review once again. Congrats on the 100k+ subscribers.
Cheers Tony 🍻
You are the only channel to trust for the reviews about 360 cameras
I’m just happy they’re continuing this form factor, won’t upgrade my One X yet but maybe when the X3 comes along...
Nice review, I just bought this the other day. Seeing as how it's my first 360 camera I figured it was a good starting point as you said.
Great review! Is there any information available if this camera can be connected to a mic?
Yeah I think they have a mic adapter coming soon 👍
Great breakdown.
it is like apple they release new products with just minor upgrades
As my FIRST and LOW budget 360 camera for virtual tours, wich one do you recomend between Insta360 One X2 and the Theta Ricoh SC2??. Is it worthy the extra cash for the X2?
this man is hearting comments by the second

Ben is the authority on 360 cams, in case some of you didn't know!
🙏🏻
Another great video. This is super helpful. Objective and comprehensive review. Thank you!
It's 17mins long and only uploaded 3mins ago!
Stitching is good so far :)
Omg thanks, finally, someone said it, I'm sick of the "invisibile selfie stick" marketing I did had that with the Samsung 360 before insta360 even existed.
Thanks for being brutally honest. Honest Ben.
💯 !!
And that fake reviewer @authentech who does nothing but bash Gopro, your reviews are actually legit! Great job! Keep it up for sure!
@@ba553y that Matti video introduced me to insta360 😁
@@americantroy77 That's good to know. You now need to listen to the experts. It'll help.
You are the most thorough 360 reviewer keep it up. Not getting this camera keeping my one x until 8k comes out.
Liked your unbiased review, atleast they should have increased still image resolution, and kept charging port open without that flap, it will be quite inconvenient using while charging!
ok just wow. now that's the kind of review I wanna see/hear before buying my stuff. thank u bro.
Great video Ben - very insightful. As a oneX owner, I was about to put it on eBay and upgrade........ Now I think I'll wait 😉
How refreshing would that be 😁🤩🤞
by far the best review on so many levels! great job Ben
Congratulations on reaching 100K!🎆🎇🥳🎊🎉🎈🍹
Thanks Ben, you saved me $429. I love my One R and was going to buy the One X 2 under the assumption that I was going to get some great new features. You consistently provide the most honest and thorough analysis of 360 products and content. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Ben for the honesty, I feel the same way about their marketing wonders, and after hearing your thoughts, I think I won't upgrade from my beloved One X, until something really new comes out from them :)
Finally, an honest, real review..a bunch of popular TH-camrs were praising the "new" X2 but failed to mention there is not anything really new.
I was shocked when you weren't on my feed this morning. Even a Facebook group I was following put up a missing poster wondering where you were.
I had the same feeling, I saw a couple of other reviews and was like, WHERE is BENNNN :)
Maybe because the reviews weren't so "Amazing", flattening and promoting buying the product it got moved to another timeslot
Just bought and got my Ricoh Theta Z1 a week ago and not regretting my purchase even with this new release from Insta360. Both cameras are just a different league of their own.
what do you use Z1 for?
@@bc2108 Real Estate 360 virtual tour. My brother is an real estate agent and I will help him out on this aspect of his business. We shared the cost of this camera.
By the way, excellent thoughts about the invisible selfie stick / marketing spill and the very topic of ethics. Spot on. I wonder why you are the only top 360 youtuber mentioning this.
Thanks Christophe!
This sounds more like a marketing release than a product release. Disappointing. I'll be sticking with my One X and Z1 for a while.
Yes, I feel the same way! :)
Totally. It is so disappointing...
Yeah disappointed
Basically I agree.. it's like continuing an established product (line) with an updated revision... could have been named OneX Rev.2 ..
I still use the one x with the older one r app that allows those lab shots 😀
Congrats on the 100k 👏
More greedy how? If you don't want it don't buy it. I think the fact you don't need a waterproof case plus longer battery life in itself represents a cost saving. Not what you hoped for and greedy aren't the same thing.
i was wondering about those lab shots...so you just ust the one x with the one r app?
@@dobbatron The one r new has very similar internals as the older one x.
But they blocked all the new app features and claimed it was because of hardware limitations.
Stopping support for the previous model once the new one is out and try to force customers to upgrade with false statements is very bad
@@fanis848 yes you can open one x *.insv files with older one 4 version. Not available in the store but you can find the apk (android) if you googled it
Hi there, thank you for review video, excellent review . I loved the video that I got from my one x. However, sadly I have big problems with my one, some time it won't save my video or 360 pictures, and I wouldn't know because I only can view them until I connect to my phone. I lost so many photos. Btw are they planning to change their 360 photos format

I watched a few other X2 videos first, but yours perfectly encapsulated what I was thinking... that I already have a One X and waterproof housing, etc, so there's no compelling reasons to get the X2
hoping insta360 do the "ethical" thing and have all the shot lab features available for the one x :D
What is the desktop software you're referring to? Thanks for the incredibly thorough review. I'm really eager to start using my OneX2
The go to guy when it comes to 360 camera. The best and honest review. 👍
"Still the king of 360 camera is Theta Z1" :)
Is there a video out signal we can use for FPV flying? Everyone is using 2 cameras on their drones and fixed wings, one hi res recorder, and one low res for live feed. It would be nice if one 360 camera could do both.
Not sure 🤔
I am buying it in March 2021 if the Gopro company don't release a better 360 camera by then. 😊
You don’t like the Insta360 one x2?
Best honest review I have seen on this camera. Thanks.
Forget the higher resolution, i wanted at least 60fps at 5.7k.
Dude those camera manufactors are limited by what chips are on the market and what's technically possible. For now we have to stick with 4K 60 in the consumer world
@@whatiship89 but qoocam 8k which was released 2 years ago can do 8k @ 30fps and 4k @ 120fps for similar price. It has just terrible software. If that camera had insta360′s software, that wouldve been perfect.
Does One X2 still show up as USB storage when connected to the computer?
Yeah the SD compartment is on the side with the battery :)

Is it a good camera for strap on for on board remote control car off roading ? A lot of vibration and I believe gopro 8 or 9 is better or the same? Thx.
I owned the previous version. It is a major upgrade dude! Just because the specs are not massive don't mean it's not a major upgrade. I love it!!!
I agree. It is the same stuff with exception of you not having completely blown out skies! I gave the old one x to someone else so I only bought this one as a replacement .
Yes I was waiting for your video....Always Ben greatly unfolds & gives perfect review about the each camera !!! Thanks Ben !!!
Hey, Ben. Nice in-depth review of the of the Insta360 ONE X2! Would you get the X2 or Theta Z1 for creating virtual tours? If noise is a concern with the X2 - would Topaz DeNoise level the playing field between the two cameras? I also like shooting video so which camera is better for that? Any other reason to get one camera over the other? I own the Insta360 ONE X and am very comfortable with how to use it and the editing software that it comes with. Thanks!
