Shaq didn't abuse this move. This is a move that snuffs out the defense with aggressive movement. Shaq IS aggressive movement. Any move that he does will fk you up physically. Dude was too big and too fast, and nobody can stop a truck running towards them.
Yeah, this dude was committing a foul every single time though He's using the elbow as leverage and pushing the opponent, Jokic only uses it for positioning. You have to be REALLY quick with the entire movement to not foul the opponent
😂 it has always been a foul. Depends on who does the move everybody knows this. Jokic does it every game. Shaq got called for many fouls doing that.....I wonder why jokic doesn't
Ive been tellin people that for the longest time! Basketball is very much like fighting Rythm, distance control, footwork, timing Its basically fighting with a ball lol. This is coming from me a former boxer and now a open gym hooper 💪🏾
They're all connected. You'll see a lil bit of something else in every sport if you pay close enough attention. For example receivers more specifically tight end using the box out technique (basketball) to get easier catches.
@@Offcell9999I’m actually kind of Interested now. I think one of the main things turning me off from sports was how many people were interacting at once. Just a bit much. I didn’t really consider these personal interactions and looking at the way they do this is realy interesting.
You gotta feel them on your back and judge it if you aren't looking, or just look over your shoulder for the seal. Reps= a feel for post moves. There are some great ways to bait post players on defense too by being directly behind them and using a forearm to generate a false position. Game experience, practice but put an emphasis on utilizing what you've been practicing in games as much as possible to iron out the timing and how to deal with counters etc.
This is one of the reasons they say “hand down man down” or “keep your hand up” a lot of shit works on defenders with lazy hands, make sure you keep a hand up players.
Maybe because Jokic is in the league right now so it is something that people watching basketball can watch right now and connect, and see in action when the watch the game? Think a little bit big dog
Another thing you can do and this is something Kareem did a lot, is as your going for the hook if you put your forearm between you and your matchup when you have the space or even against there chest it will make it harder for them to contest or close the distance on the hook leaving you open more often than not.
The reason it’s not an offensive foul is because you establish a pivot making the elbow more to block an advance than to push the defender, the move is a delicate balance between the torsion and the fend with the upper arm
Also it's good if you move your non-pivot foot to the back before doing this, like fainting a turn to the other side, that leaves you the necessary space to put you elbow and specially your shoulder in front of the defender
A lot of it has to do with the weight you are putting on the defender before you make the move. Elbow or not. Gotta create leverage. You have to force the defender to dictate where they are going by initiating that contact.
Watched Jokic do this for 50% of the wolves games, and every time I just face palmed because he would just back the wolves to the net and then do this and score.
The thing is, keep that elbow and arm close to your body, and don't over extend. Same with doing a crossover, its quite easy to be called for a push-off, but if you keep that arm close to you, and quickly withdraw it instead of letting it hang, you're clean.
It's actually more about his footwork than his elbows. He actually puts his pivot foot right by the defenders leg and turns away from the defender. Also, while hitting you with his shoulder first and then the elbows last, just make sure you're cleared.
That elbow move he showed is a textbook foul, what Jokic does is he turns into you and by creating that contact he can jump before you (without the extended elbow), kinda like in a box out you cant jump since you got a player pushing on your legs.
Think about it like instead of turning “pushing” with your arms/upper body you are doing it with whole body and as you turn make sure you are firm. If you rotate your upper body only you will get called
This is just good basketball practice, the kind of stuff my coach taught. A much more devious technique i learned as a little guy in the post. Is to get them to jump into you. And while they're falling you just jump slightly toward them, mostly straight up and just shoot after they land. Almost always, it's a foul, and your shoulder will center right into the solar plexus and hurt them pretty badly. It's completely a foul on them and at the least they get the breath knocked out of them.
This is a Shaq sig move. Ewing was nice with it, too; however, Shaq was bringing down the arena with the finish: thats the difference. Joker does it well, but credit where credit is due. However, if we want to be really accurate, Bill Russell tortured guys with this move. Olajuwon said Russell showed him the "dirty paint" technique. It doesn't draw fouls for a big man though, so the center better be a strong or smooth finisher
first read which way your defender is guarding once you have that down if he’s guarding inside coverage drop step down low if he’s guarding the outside drop step in with the same principle
Yk what’s crazy when I was on the freshman team In high school a varsity player did that shit to me once I’ve never played post defense after that ever 😂😂
Lmao I’ve always called it a chicken wing. Every low post player college and above uses it. You’ll even see guys like kyrie use it to generate space for fadeaways. But if you’re a big and have a smaller defender on you , you’ll end up elbowing them in the face a lot hahaha
Bill Laimbeer and the Pistons did this first. Moses Malone may have used this. Kevin McHale had 1,000+ moves, but he didn't use this one. Charles Barkley did use this a few times.
Why don’t you just hook the defender’s foot with your pivot foot when planting it, then when you spin off of your pivot foot, it’s basically a guarantee bucket or foul. The elbow trick is nice too though, it’s just that hooking your defenders inside leg with your pivot foot will never get called a foul
This video is missing one VERY important detail. You don’t just push with your elbow. Your footwork is where the power comes from. Catch with you elbows out and hook your pivot foot around the defender lead or outside foot, THEN your pivot will naturally get by them and have inherent leverage to throw the defender. Watch the jokic’s foot in the clip and you’ll see this.
Why not referencing a current active player that anyone can watch who's a multiple time mvp and more relevant than decade old former player that anyone might not watch? Also Jokic is more technical than shaq which serves better objective example
Has nothing to do with the elbow. He’s simply protecting the ball. The move is actually done with his feet. It’s just a drop step. He gets his foot outside of the defenders foot, uses high elbows to protect the ball, but pivots on the outside foot to create the space to score.
I don't like this technique it's better on shorter players, but on bigger opponents you arent hooking arms really. Inside shoulder into thier chest hook shot from other arm cocked back. You put at least body width distance between you and your opponent without flailing elbows
Shaq abused this move 😂
