Anytime, and sure the 2JZ is a stout motor but swapping it in is not near as simple as people assume. You don't just pay the price of the motor and put it in.
Just bursting dreams out here. I did a 3rd gen 3sgte swap and took out my 2nd gen 3sgte and you would not believe how much bullshit you have to deal with. Most people think same motor car can hold same motor but it is never that simple.
Yup. You'd be surprised at how many people just think they'll pay the cost for a GTE motor and think that's the only cost associated since they share the same mounts.
Dude I know your feels. I agree with a lot about what you said, this shit is expensive. especially when it doesn't run and you just have a big money pit in the driveway. I think I'm gonna make a video talking about what my car cost me.
I bought an already swapped GTE is300 for $13k and I’m spending another $4K to have a stand alone installed and the car tuned. $17,000 for a semi-luxurious 600 HP car and Toyota reliability isn’t too bad if you ask me. It’s hard to get a car with that power for under 20 grand, and you’re definitely going to be dealing with something less reliable too otherwise.
Fasho! I’m probably going to swap out the noisy Walbro 255 for a Denso 280LPH fuel pump (standard for the TT Supra). I installed that same pump in my turbocharged Toyota Tacoma and it’s nice to stick to Toyota parts whenever possible.
Billy Brandon single ECU, only using the TT ECU. You can only do that on the 2001. If you have a 2002 and up IS300 you have to run both ECUs when you merge the harness.
That Mellow Guy oh beautiful. That's what I have. Which gte car did you get the harness from? I'm trying with getting a GTE instead of build my spare VVTi NA...just can't decide because I already have gte rods on the way and hks 264 cams installed.
Aye bro keepem coming arkansas boy just saying upload more every build I watch is from up north it's nice to know I ain't the only southern boy with the bug keep it up bro
Dude. I’m in the middle of swapping a 2JZGE into my Tacoma for drag racing. I had an $8000 budget. I’ve spent $5000 already and the engine is just a block now 😂. Since it’s for drag, I said F it and built the dang motor and trans! 🤷🏾♂️ All good! I’m slow on uploading so there’s not many videos yet.
Anyone can buy another car, but to build your dream car or just a fast car, I mean the pride and the fact that not everyone will have your exact car, I think it's worth the money. I'm thinking about building an is300 with a 2j or 1j.
Mike Gose do it man. It’s not as bad as it seems, it doesn’t happen over night nor does it have to. A little bit of saving here and there goes a long way.
Nice start to your build man cant wait to see how it turns out. I would recomend you get a cover for your microphone for the wind noise, and be aware of your lighting. The lake was a good shot but you had no light. It would help make the videos higher quality. Im not saying you should go and spend tons of money on equipment but there are small things you can do to make a big difference.
Gotcha, I'm actually still using the default build in microphone, but I will be buying an external sometime soon and will get a wind cover for sure. Thanks for the feedback bro.
Yah thanks a lot for making this video detailed. Like the first guy said no one ever breaks down the costs and brands they really used. Theyll give a few brand shout outs then how much hp they're making now. So yah its interesting, but I dont care! Being that the motors come with 45-60k miles and under a year warranty and my Lexus has 160k on it I feel this will last me awhile and be super fun. I dont want another car is rather make my lexus super nice and to me it's worth the money, to some people it's not and theyll say why didnt you just get a new one ? Then when I smoke them and they say... ohh. And it looks good. Well yah. So cheers
Good video bro. Thanks for the info. Helps a lot. I heard you could have kept the aristo harness instead of modifying the is300 harness if you go to a stand-alone ecu? Or I also read you can swap out all the parts like power steering, ac compressor, alternator... from the is300 and put onto the 2jzgte so you can use the is300 harness and save money while the engines are out the car? Would that work or any benefit of keeping everything from the jdm engine? I’m planning on doing this swap too but going single turbo right away since I heard it’s hard to fit with the twins and if you go single later you have to pull the motor out.
Tony Cha yeah I pulled my motor not too long ago to go Single, still not up and running yet but close. And thanks for the kind words. Now if you plan to use the Aristo ECU, you need to get the harness modified so the JDM harness will fit the body plugs on the IS300 Chassis. If you plan to go stand-alone and single you can just use the IS300 harness I believe since you won’t be needing any of the twin turbo specific plugs. And the benefit of using the IS300 accessories is that you know they work because they came off of your Car instead of a JDM motor that has been sitting for who knows how long. I used the Alternator, AC compressor, and power steering pump off of the IS300 on my GTE motor.
If you gotta refresh the engine? does that mean take it apart and rebuild some things? cause if thats the case unless you're doing most of the work yourself which i wouldn't be cause idk what the hell I'm doing for real Might do the simple things I can just imitate on youtube maybe the fuel stuff and other things I'd have to see where I feel confident at. Sounds like it may just be better to rebuild the stock engine with turbo internals. specially when your engine is running, you know whats been done to the engine since I bought my car at pretty low miles, and is in relatively good shape at least it should be seeing that I follow the maintence schedule to a T. lol.
my brother has had his is300 laying in the driveway for a while now. since i wont be getting my own car i’ve been thinking about fixing it up and making it my first car but it would cost more to fix it than to buy a new engine. im thinking about putting a 2jz gte in there but i dont know if it would be worth it knowing prices have gone way up since this video. do you still think it would be worth it? because it would be pretty badass to pretty much have a supra.
Insightful video, greatly appreciated. I have every intention of putting a turbo on my N/A IS300 but have been 50/50 on whether I should just build my GE or swap to a GTE and then upgrade that. There's a video on a guy running a 1000hp GE IS300 but he built the motor, but he doesn't mention how much. What are your thoughts?
Build the motor. Back when I made this video it was cheaper to buy a GTE than it was to build a GE. I bought my GTE for $1500. You can’t buy one for less than 6-7k now. Definitely build a Ge!
@@the_rush_to_nothing well I bought mine in 2016. Back then they were going for $2500ish. I got mine from a guy selling all his stuff because he was deploying overseas. It was super clean and taken care of. It was a deal! That stuff doesn’t happen anymore.
When you ran the tweak’d performance wiring harness did you have to change the location of the ecu or does it allow you to run it in the stock location
Although I'm by no means an expert, maybe give up on the stock fuel delivery and get an external fuel pump. (I know it's probably need if you want big power)
Edgar Peraza my 2JZ overheated and blew the head gasket and warped the head. I’d have a lot more money in the build if I was took the block to get treated and cleaned and the head decked and honed, more so if I bought build internals. This block will do close to 1k hp which is more than I need anyway. Depends on your goals I guess. Now if you have a stock GE motor that’s running fine, it would cost the same amount of money to do a GTE internals setup with a piggyback ecu.
bobwayne17 well for me it was the IS300 because on sentimental value. Now if you were buying solely for swapping thats a different question. It'll definitely be harder to find a clean 240 to swap but the IS300 might be a tad more expensive.
hmmm I'm either shooting for a 6-7k 2JZ swap or a vaydor G35. I don't have much sentimental value towards either the IS300 or 240, but finding a swap-able 240 is definitely the challenge :( ah project cars...thanks for the help man.
It's really not too bad. Plus another thing to remember is doesn't all have to be purchased at once, a few parts here, a few parts there, makes it really easy.
Yes thanks for the video I’m looking at making this swap I got the is300 with a 2jz GE motor in it for 6000 but it will probably cost me so much I do not have any shops in my area that are good enough for something like this.
Alex Bergman probably not. Shot costs aren’t included in this breakdown because I did all the work myself, if a shop did it that’s when you can expect to see numbers in the $20k-30k range. I’m at around 13k right now everything including my single turbo swap.
Ethan methvin not sure what answer you’re looking for. It’s a swap driveshaft from Driftmotion, that is made to use the A340e Aristo trans in the Is300.
Thanks. I didn't realize swap cost and time involved. Everyone makes it sound so easy. Just drop in and have 800hp, nope. Thanks for perspective.

GioGuitarDude exactly. My car is paid for too which makes it great. I’m ready to get it back with the Single Turbo swap.

So they merged your harnesses and you used the TT ecu? Did you run the IS300 ecu as well? Dual ecu?
Billy Brandon single ECU, only using the TT ECU. You can only do that on the 2001. If you have a 2002 and up IS300 you have to run both ECUs when you merge the harness.

Build or rebuild your factory 2jz or a mix of that, thats helps a lot to start.

All higher flow pumps will be louder .. the walbros are good pumps, just should have gotten the 450 for when you go big single
scotye g the aeromotive 320s and the denso 320s are quieter than the walbro, it's know to be super loud which is why it's cheap
scotye g yeah, I heard from people that done the swap that the aeromotive is a lot better and a lot more quiet

bobwayne17 anytime brother. I love my swap. When the turbos spool people stop and look when I drive by.
6-7k could be doable, if you don't include the price of the car in that and you don't want to make too much power.
What motor mount ? Thank you
this is actually a really reasonable price

would the swap work with the same gen, is200?
I’m not sure. The motor mounts would probably still line up since it’s the same chassis but the wiring will be a lot different.

How do you make a gt86 2jz insanely loud
GTE^
Straight pipe out the back of the turbo. The shorter the pipe the louder, and the less resonators and mufflers, the louder.
