I had a goose get really mad at me because I was feeding seagulls. It was so clear that goose didn’t want me feeding seagulls. Lol I’ll never forget that! The Sebastopols are so gorgeous.
We have only one goose on this homestead. Flipper is our mixed breed Embden/African guard goose. He protects our chicken flock from hawks and other flying predators. I enjoyed looking at all of the breeds that you raise on Moss Mountain. The Pomeranians were especially beautiful.
My husband and I are restoring an old farm and when we get finished I think we might just give some of these a try. Really enjoyed your video. Thanks

As always, I so appreciate your knowledge about the heritage birds on your farm and your preservation of them all. Never knew there were so many different kinds of chickens let alone geese. When I lived on Maui, I was very privileged to live on a property where the "Nene" (Hawaiian geese") loved to hang out. One year, a couple found a place to nest and it was so special to see the goslings grow up. Just thought I'd share. Looking forward to hearing about the ducks next :-)

They're all so spectacular! I've only owned Embdens and then my one favorite ever Toulouse goose and now I'm just itching for a couple Sebastopols or giant dewlaps. My neighbor who turned me onto geese in the 70's had a giant dewlap named Paddlefoot who was just so calm and regal!
And no! I've just never even met a goose or gander who didn't just accept me. I even made a video of me walking within about 6 feet of a pair of nesting Canadians in a grocery store parking lot!
Wonderful, I have been attacked by a goose but I still love them from a distance and I am thankful for all that you do for them and so many creatures.

Interesting and pretty birds. Those French geese look very intelligent, if they are or not. The geese around me are big time honkers and lots of them.

I love geese. I used to have a pet goose that would follow me like a dog and slept on our front porch at night. They can live up to 40 years and will alert you to strangers like a watch dog does. The down side is that they are very messy and need a large space to forage about in. If you confine them to a small yard it will eventually become solid goose poop.

I am so fascinated and always impressed by the beauty and majestic quality of your poultry! Do you have any ornamental varieties of bantam hens and roosters? They are so beautiful, and where I come from in the south, they were used to strut around our gardens! They eat all sorts of pests, fertilize, and scratch around the soil!

You can tell by the birds actions while P. Allen Smith is around that he has never fed them or had any kind of interaction with them before this video. The shepherds hook he has shows us that he is also scared of them lol

I have 3 acres of land and a small stream behind it. Is that enough space to have a couple Dewlep Toulouse Geese as pets? I think they fascinating, gigantic and majestic in a way. Would they get along well with some Faverolle Chickens?

Keep up the good work ! I hate it when an entire species of an animal goes extinct. Also pretty sure I've seen these geese at my auction. Definitely saw some ypung Chinese geese but was not allowed to get them.
The only ducks are Moscovy and they really have wonderful personalities.

The toulouse goose looks in body much like the rouen duck......if both birds are french in origin im curious as to why the bodies of both these french developed birds run more parallel to the ground as opposed to an angular ground to body presentation? They look like completely different animals to other poultry
I wanted to ask how well can you farm geese in dry climates? If you have water sources for them, can you get farming them to work? Or even arid climates like the southwest?

The Toulouse are so beautiful. But I think of a heritage bird as being good for a small farm or homestead. If they only lay a few eggs a year they aren't producing eggs for consumption, and if they reproduce that slowly they aren't very practical for meat either. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the video on heritage breeds. Would a few Roman Tufted Goose be a good protector of ducks if the goose is of a calm disposition?
Love the video. Your birds are beautiful! My husband and I are working towards purchasing a homestead in TN within the next year or so. Like you, I plan to raise breeding flocks of the rare birds on the Livestock Conservancy list. I know some hatcheries carry some of these breeds, but they may or may not be to standard. It appears you ARE breeding to standard. Do you ever sell any of your birds to start other breeding flocks? If so, I will definitely be in contact once we are set up in TN!

Maaannnnnn… I really want some of those giant dewlap Toulouse, I missed out this year from the hatcheries… smaller hatcheries and farms want a LOT of money for them…
