    I discovered the Dwarf Tomato Project this season and am growing 3 varieties. Got started a bit late with them, but they are looking great! Thanks for the videos on these special tomatoes!

      I have Dwarf Saucy Mary and Oluru Ochre from TomatoFest and I live in Ontario and am growing them here now.

    I have a silly question I like gardening but I do not know what to plant and when. Can you make a list please? I also wanted to point out that I live in New England. With 4 seasons!

    Put the tomato hole in the side of the bucket 4 inches from the bottom. Pinch off the first blossoms. Train the plant to grow up.

    I tried this and I put the lid on instead of trying to grow something else. I've also found if the roots don't mind being a tad wet to crush orbeez/water crystals into the soil. They absorb water and keep it evenly distributed

    Why do you have 6-foot (or taller?) stakes in buckets of plants that require no staking at all?

    • @Growyourheirlooms
      @Growyourheirlooms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use those stakes all around the garden so they are 6' so I can use them anywhere. As for staking dwarf determinates, Many of them are so prolific, that once they start producing, they get extremely heavy and have been known to bend over. And especially with the wind in my area of the country, it is absolutely necessary to stake all of my tomatoes, even the dwarf determinates. So in short, ALL tomatoes should be staked just for insurance.

    I once saw a video that used 2 liter bottles(way too small BUT) they heated the top 1/3 of the bottle and then pushed the neck of the bottle down towards the bottom an inch or two; effectivly making a ring that when holes were added, kept the water away from the plant stem. I wonder if it would be possible to somehow adapt that concept to 5 gallon buckets

    When you were talking about your tomatoes grown in 5 gallon buckets upside down you called one indeterminate and the other two were determinate. What does that mean? I've never heard those terms used with tomatoes. I just found your TH-cam today and I'm enjoying your videos. Thank you.

    Not a bad harvest for the 10x10. Also love how your peppers grow! They look so compact and sturdy. Is that just how these varieties grow? I currently have some cayennes but their branches are getting to heavy for their own good. Should probably stop fertilizing and maybe stake them.

    • @Growyourheirlooms
      @Growyourheirlooms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I pick those varieties specifically for their height. These are the same ones I grow in the greenhouse so they don't take up much room.Also, you can prune the cayennes back and they will bush out more.

      Thanks for the answer. I will prune them once I have harvested.

      I did, unfortunately I got so overwhelmed that I ran out within a few days. I plan on growing 10 times more this year and do this again in the fall. They will be available off the website. Thanks
