I am wondering if you planted something that didn't grow as deep, like radishes, at the top if that would have done better. Also if maybe there was a layer of burlap to separate and slow the water drainage if that would have helped the two live in harmony. Might try that.
In no-dig gardening, gardeners merely place a layer of compost over the top of last year’s garden and plant. It seems to be a successful method of growing. Charles Dowding in the UK is a huge proponent of this style of growing. You might check out his channel if you haven’t seen it already. He more intensively plants his gardens than you do. So...I think you’re on the right track. Good luck. P.S. I really liked your Dwarf Tomato Project from last year. Any chance you’ll be bringing it back again for this year?
I am being a little stingy with my spacing this year as well. I am really trying to maximize my use of space but you are right, probably a bad decision. Strawberry bed has been in my list. Maybe next year.

Thanks for the info
Keep the good work! And I agree with you. Us gardeners with a small garden want to grow small vegetables but big in variety :)
thanks

Thanks. I will be doing some of the dwarfs, but not as many
Looking forward to seeing what becomes of it!
Thx

My space is about 6 x 6 so I grow in containers so yes small but tasty.
Yeah, I dreamed too big for that small space LOL
