Thanks man. I’m with you-I did 3 variations of a catback to get what I wanted but then see this z on the dyno with factory catback make such good numbers, it’s almost like buying one is a waste of money!
Can I also do these mods to my RSX-S? Just kidding lol, I have copied a few of these mods for my Q50 from you already haha. Definitely going to have to get the brake lines, and performance pads and slotted rotors. I have already seen those upgrades in your previous videos but thanks for the awesome reminder! Great video and I see your "on the road" (lol) to 5k subscribers now!
Depends on the size of the tips I suppose, but to go with a size that looks half decent, I would imagine you’ll have to cut into the bumper a bit to make room.

Test pipes are not street legal, but they will open the car up for power. Test pipes and tune would get you in under that budget and get you the most gains
@@SpeedCultureStudios So, just a follow up question, I'm looking at getting some Invidia High Flows. On your amazon page, I noticed you have a couple of components for making your own exhaust system. You think that would fit in the budget with a tune? And what would you say about fuel efficiency before and after lmao?
I recently purchased a 2016 q50 red sport, my first mod would be for sound, I’m debating after watching your video to just do axleback after hearing about check engine light problems with cat back in a previous video, any suggestions, also I’m looking to to a tune as well. I’m in NC, I heard you mention a guy in Charlotte any suggestions of a tune to go with and prices for a tune, also any suggestions on axleback, thanks for your time and nice channel, good vids!!
You shouldn't get a CEL with just a catback, but if you start replacing downpipes and messing with catalytic converters, then you will likely have a check engine light. SOHO motorsports in Charlotte is one of the best tuners for this platform. You will do an ecutek tune. They will take care of you based on your modifications. Software and dyno time will run you in around $1000.
I really want to purchase the same lowering springs you have, however I’ve been told that they can easily break and once they do essentially the car is just done for, it will drop lol is this true? Have you had any problems with the springs? How long have you had them for?
I mean if springs were to break that would suck, but I don’t know why the car would be done for. It would just bottom out one corner. You’d want to stop quickly but it wouldn’t be “done for.” I’m sure it’s happened in the past, but I’ve never actually heard of anyone have a spring break. Tein is a solid company and they make quality products. They have been in OEM replacement for a long time and are really growing their performance category now. I’ve had these in for about 1 year now with no complaints. Rides good and have 0 sag. I’ve run springs in my cars for over 15 years many different makes and models with no problems. It does put a little extra strain on the shocks, so you have to consider that.
Klue Thomas the oiled one will be the equivalent to the K&N oiled. You can return them and get the dry filters or just run them. A lot of people have gone with oiled and had no problems. My preference was to not chance it
So what are you plans with calipers? I might get the Powers stop big brake kit and sell my grey akebons. I want red calipers! Maybe we can work something out.
Andrew Prather Powerstops are just “replica” akebonos as far as I know. They are essentially the same system but I wouldn’t say they are an upgrade. I know people have gotten roasted for buying the powerstop calipers and putting Akebono decals on them.
Personal mode allows you to “personalize” the drive mode. I believe it’s in drive settings or something. It’s been awhile. So my personal mode is Sport mode with active trace control turned off. I believe in the upper trim levels even further adjustments are possible.
I'm looking into buying a g37, q50 for around 10k, obviously with the budget there are a lot of high milage ones. Wanted to know how reliable they would be
What I've done on my Q50, in order: Tint - live in the hot south, it surprises me that ceramic tint is not a standard feature here but it is for me. Looks better and gives privacy too Coilovers - did notice the decrease in roll, and the look is a lot better Exterior lighting upgrades - sequential mirror blinkers, sequential rear bumper blinkers/brake lights (replaces reflectors), LED rear blinker, license place lights to cool white. Aesthetic only, just a cheap upgrade that really enhances the look, makes the vehicle look more modern. Idk how infiniti let any of these out of the factory with halogen lighting anywhere. Interior lighting upgrades - swapped all to cool white to match the exterior lighting (and front cabin lights, seriously idk who was in charge of lighting on this thing...), mine came factory with cool white LED underglow, but all the interior lights are warm! Again, idk how they let it out of the factory like that, but now it all matches. Again, cheap aesthetic upgrade blackout - another aesthetic, but the car looks less grandpa-y and more lux performance-y. Wanted to do this before wheels so I could get a better idea of what I wanted on the vehicle And that's it so far! Next will be wheel (and tire!!!) and brake upgrades, and then probably JB4 (i'm in a 16 3.0t base). I've only had it about 6 months so I think I'm doing pretty good.
@@ginjaninja4222 I did BC Racing, seems like one of the more popular choices for the Q50. I'm not a suspension nut so I mostly went with something that worked for a lot of others honestly I am suspicious that lowering springs may have been equally effective for my purposes, but the deed is already done. Might be something worth investigating yourself before you buy.
@@toasty4000000 Alright thanks man yeah I definitely will look into it for a while buying in around two years so hopefully I can educate myself good enough haha
Would you suggest just air filters and resonated test pipe for someone not looking to spend too much? Looking for a decent improvement without going tune and full exhaust. Once again, congrats on hitting 4k.
I don’t suggest test pipes if you’re not tuning. 99% chance you’ll get a check engine light and you’ll never feel the benefit of the test pipes without it. I actually don’t mind a muffler delete. Do filters and chop that sucker off if you’re just wanting a bit more rumble!
@@SpeedCultureStudios so you're saying test pipes and or high flow cats aren't a necessary mod??? I was wondering why they weren't mentioned in this video....
$noopyRUger Of course they aren’t “necessary.” I wasn’t talking about making power. Like I said at the beginning, the car is fine from the factory, but if you are going to make only the absolutely necessary changes, these are the few you have to do!
I said it in the video-1.4” drop. Potholes are just as bad here as anywhere else. Everyone thinks they have bad potholes so it’s impossible to compare. You just definitely have to drive more carefully!
I've got a 2010 G37x and use autoanything.com to buy brakes. Had good luck on the Power Stop Z23 Evolution Brake Kits. I've autocrossed a few times with no issues. Running K/N drop in filters and wrapped the boxes with the gold heat resistant tape from Amazon. Catback true dual 2" exhaust (done from a muffler shop that can bend their own pipe) is cheaper than big name brands. Discount tire has great deals on wheels too if you wait for holidays. Edit: Z23 not Z26 kits 👍
Why not? I rarely used them on my last car but didn’t like how they worked on it. This car I use them everyday all day. I like to control the rpm myself and running in the mountains, you cannot stay in automatic-it kills the efficiency and the enjoyment.
I’m not sure. Surprised there are no vids of how to do it. In the Q there is a plug in the trunk that can be disconnected to make only RWD. May be a fuse you can take out to disable awd. I wouldn’t do it though, if I were you.
Appreciate your videos! I used to have a G37X (AWD) and body roll was my biggest pet peeve. But, my Q50S shows VERY LITTLE roll. Would you still recommend lowering it? (I truly want to lower it because of the nice look). If so, what would you recommend so as to minimize any detrimental effects on the already strong performance. Thanks!
Hey man! I bought my first sports car in November (2015 Q50 3.7 AWD) and have saved money to do an exhaust. I thought I wanted a motordyne exhaust for a while but after watching your video on the best exhaust for under $500 I decided it would be best to maybe go that direction and use my savings for some lowering springs and rims and tires and do it all together. I have a couple questions about the exhaust though 1. In the description it says you have a Borla Pro XS muffler, Flow fx resonator, Flex pipe and stainless tips. You didn’t include test pipes, what brand did you use? 2. When you went to the shop to get this all done did they know what to do when you said put it all together? 3. I watched your 2.25 VS 2.5 video. When I go to a shop do I ask for 2.25in pipe? Hope to hear back from you. Big fan. Best Q50 TH-cam Channel by far. Thanks!
Top Speed test pipes. You’ll have to explain it to the shop but if they know anything or understand exhaust systems, they should know how to set it up. 2.25 or 2.5 is fine. My current setup is 2.5”.
Will be interesting to hear how much actual difference the S-lines are going to make. I've always been a steel-braided line fellow on all my dirtbikes and sportbikes but now that I think about it I wasn't a pro racer so not really sure how much of a change they made or better my brakes where. I can say that my R1 front 2 rotors for my small brakes on my car made a definite difference with their R1 ceramic pads(I bedded them really well by adhering to instructions from many places online). This improvement I can say for sure. I do get a little grumble/groan at stoplights as you creep forward by releasing the pressure at that sweet spot but nothing over obnoxious. I did use brake pad synthetic grease on the back of the pads and hardware so likely a side effect of slotted rotors.
I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my braking with the R1s, both in regular driving situations and in more spirited events. What I really noticed was a major improvement in the rotors dissipating heat. No more pulsating brake pedal. But, I do still get a soft pedal at the end of a long day in the mountains. Fresh fluid and stainless lines should fix that!
Didnt say you need Coilovers in this video. I said lowering the car makes a huge difference in how it handles-whether you use springs or coils doesn’t matter. What I said in the previous video is that you don’t NEED Coilovers because 95% of people don’t drive their cars hard enough to justify them. If you track your car Coilovers might be worth it. If you don’t-springs are sufficient. No matter which you choose, the Q50 needs to be lowered. That was the point in this video. Not arguing for one or the other-just lower.
@@SpeedCultureStudios ok. I got ya now. Either way I really got good info from your vids. I just got my G37x and love the "shit you don't need" vid especially. Thank you for the content you earned my sub.
@@JaxenB I appreciate that buddy. I understand how that could have caused confusion. I always try to be clear in my explanations, but sometimes I miss the mark.
You do know your brakes and rotors as is from factory is just ok as is so adding new brake lines as you suggested is not a necessity lol you kind of have a sad Car enthusiast mindset and very misinformed on mods... Unless your vehicle is equipped with higher mods such as Forced induction Turbo/supercharger then them brakes/rotors brake lines would be essential..
I don’t know who you’re talking to-I hope not me, because what you said is just not correct. Going forced induction has little to do with upgrading braking systems alone. If you plan to drive fast or hard, it’s a good idea to upgrade brakes, whether or not you are turbo charged or not. That’s why the sport model has sport brakes. This car is a daily driver yes, but is set up for autocross and mountain runs. If you saw my other videos you would know that. Drilled and slotted rotors are necessary for moving brake dust away from the rotors/pads as well as more effectively dissipating heat under heavy braking-like during a mountain run. The factory rotors get uneven heating causing pulsation in the pedal which has a negative impact on brake feel and performance. This is why rotors were upgraded. Rubber brake lines overheat during heavy braking-like during mountain runs (again has nothing to do with having a supercharger)-when this happens, the brake pedal gets spongy and you lose pressure at the caliper, which hinders braking performance. If you’re entering a corner on a mountain looking off a cliff, you want to know that your brakes will bite hard-trust me. I have bolt ons and a tune and make 335hp. No turbo no supercharger. But I would not drive this car this hard in the mountains without these brake upgrades. No, if you drive like a grandma and never go over the speed limit or ever push the car at all, then you wouldn’t need these upgrades. But if you do-these are highly suggested. Or upgrade to the big brakes from the sport model. The fact that you don’t understand this tells me that YOU have a “sad car enthusiast mindset and are very misinformed on mods.” Don’t come here and try and make a point if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Only thing better about the sport is the seats and the brake calipers. Otherwise, it’s heavier, has terrible drive by wire steering and weird suspension that’d I’d change out immediately anyway. In the end, it’s not better at all.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I disagree , the seats are a must have not just better, they're made for aggressive driving and look great, the paddle shifters are a much needed extra to increase driving enjoyment, not having them is a tragedy. The exhaust sound is waaaaay better as well. It sounds like u bought the cheap version and became a hater because you made the wrong choice.
Word on the Street Hahahahaha there is 0 difference in the sport exhaust. Same exact system. Nonetheless, exhaust was the first thing I changed so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Like I said in my last comment, I do like the sport seats, but I have racing seats now anyway so again, doesn’t matter. I installed paddle shifters for $200. Why would I spend $5000 for a sport model to get paddles when I put them in in less than 30 minutes. Sorry bud, you’re not looking like you know a whole lot about these cars. Maybe check out my other videos.
@@SpeedCultureStudios u better check the resale value of the sport model vs base model lol you're the one who went the cheap route and had to buy seats because the base model seats suck lol u had to buy stick on paddle shifters because your base model didnt have them lol stop trying to justify buying the cheap model. You're like one of those guys turning their 370z into a fake nismo lol actually no the sport model has better exhaust lol u think u would know this. And dont get me started on how much better the sport model looks. Dont hate because you bought the wrong car lol just accept it and do better next time.
Word on the Street 😂 😂 I’m dead because you clearly don’t know what you are talking about haha! The sport has a different front bumper-that’s it for looks. No big deal. I have a splitter and it looks sick. They are not stick on paddles you moron. These cars are pre-wired for factory paddles. I bought paddles and installed them. I put racing seats in-30lbs lighter than factory seats-you ever heard of weight reduction? You don’t know anything haha. It’s funny when ignorant people try and leave comments like they know what they’re talking about. Sport exhaust sounds better ? 🤣 🤣 You are too funny. You killed me with that one. Resale value? For real? These Infinitis don’t hold value for shit-sport or not. There is maybe a $1000 difference between a base and sport right now. Klue Thomas the oiled one will be the equivalent to the K&N oiled. You can return them and get the dry filters or just run them. A lot of people have gone with oiled and had no problems. My preference was to not chance it
Speed Culture Studios Thanks I won’t chance it either. 🤓
What model is your q50?
So what are you plans with calipers? I might get the Powers stop big brake kit and sell my grey akebons. I want red calipers! Maybe we can work something out.
You have sport brakes right now?
@@SpeedCultureStudios I do. What would out perform what.. I don't know.
Andrew Prather You’re better off painting your sport brakes. You wouldn’t want to swap Akebonos for powerstops!
@@SpeedCultureStudios I asked this question on the forums. Akebono considered superior to even the big brake power stops eh?
Andrew Prather Powerstops are just “replica” akebonos as far as I know. They are essentially the same system but I wouldn’t say they are an upgrade. I know people have gotten roasted for buying the powerstop calipers and putting Akebono decals on them.
what is personal mode and how do you change it up? i cant seem to figure it out
Personal mode allows you to “personalize” the drive mode. I believe it’s in drive settings or something. It’s been awhile.
So my personal mode is Sport mode with active trace control turned off. I believe in the upper trim levels even further adjustments are possible.
I have a 19 3.0t would you recommend swapping out the air filters for those Afe filters as well?
They wouldn’t be the same, but I believe aFe does have filters for the 3.0t. They are a quality brand so I’d suggest looking into their options.
Speed Culture Studios will do thanks!
Bro another question. Which tein lowering springs do you have? I notice it makes your car sit flush
Manuel Medina These are the s tech but I’m not sure if they are compatible with the newer models.
Speed Culture Studios got it thank you ! I installed some Eibach but I didn’t like the height and ride quality
Is there a link for the dry filters. That website I went on had the oiled one.
If you were on the afe site, the oiled and the dry filter are at the same link. You just have to select the gray one
@@SpeedCultureStudios yes I saw it after I posted the question thank you.
That center console “mod” is also the best $13 bucks I’ve ever spent ... lol
Truly is haha
I'm looking into buying a g37, q50 for around 10k, obviously with the budget there are a lot of high milage ones. Wanted to know how reliable they would be
If they were maintained properly, they can be quite reliable for many many miles

Go to a local salvage yard and pull them from a g37.
@@SpeedCultureStudios hopefully theres one open during these fun times rn

I thought you said in the "don't need' video that you don't need springs...
I’m pretty sure I said Coilovers
How hard is it to install the brake lines?
Very easy!
What seat is that?
Sparco r100
You need a AuCar Tesla style screen information center. No more useless top screen !!!
No thanks. Tesla screen looks cool but its useless to me. I rarely have the radio on let alone need a big screen for anything lol
Can you make a vid on how to make it faster for beginners in order ? Thats what i thought this video would be lol
I’ve done other videos like that. Check out my other vids. Test pipes and tune-best way to make it faster.
What I've done on my Q50, in order:
Tint - live in the hot south, it surprises me that ceramic tint is not a standard feature here but it is for me. Looks better and gives privacy too
Coilovers - did notice the decrease in roll, and the look is a lot better
Exterior lighting upgrades - sequential mirror blinkers, sequential rear bumper blinkers/brake lights (replaces reflectors), LED rear blinker, license place lights to cool white.
Again, cheap aesthetic upgrade
blackout - another aesthetic, but the car looks less grandpa-y and more lux performance-y. Wanted to do this before wheels so I could get a better idea of what I wanted on the vehicle
And that's it so far! Next will be wheel (and tire!!!) and brake upgrades, and then probably JB4 (i'm in a 16 3.0t base). I've only had it about 6 months so I think I'm doing pretty good.
Very nice start!
What coilovers did you go with? I noticed I need new suspension soon because of salt and snow:/
@@ginjaninja4222 I did BC Racing, seems like one of the more popular choices for the Q50. I'm not a suspension nut so I mostly went with something that worked for a lot of others
honestly I am suspicious that lowering springs may have been equally effective for my purposes, but the deed is already done. Might be something worth investigating yourself before you buy.
@@toasty4000000 Alright thanks man yeah I definitely will look into it for a while buying in around two years so hopefully I can educate myself good enough haha
@@ginjaninja4222 haha, gotcha, good luck dude
Hello, the car doesn't come with a spare. Why would run flats be bad when you don't have a spare.
Because runflats are terrible if you’re looking for performance
How much you paid for the pedal shifters.???
Gadi Munoz Go to a scrapyard and pull it off a g37s
@@SpeedCultureStudios got it!
What's the difference 3.7 and 3.0
Engine size. 3.0t is twin turbo. Some styling differences.
So how low did you with the springs and do you have a lot of potholes in your city ? 👀👀👀
I said it in the video-1.4” drop. Potholes are just as bad here as anywhere else. Everyone thinks they have bad potholes so it’s impossible to compare. You just definitely have to drive more carefully!
Hey man I got a g37 and I’ll like to get those mods! Is there a way you can help me out with links to buy
Most every mod I’ve done has been documented in specific videos with links in the description of each. Check out the rest of the videos!
I get it now.. Thank you for the video
No problem!
Good suggestions in this video, I'd do everything except the paddle shifters (never been a fan of them)
Why not? I rarely used them on my last car but didn’t like how they worked on it. This car I use them everyday all day. I like to control the rpm myself and running in the mountains, you cannot stay in automatic-it kills the efficiency and the enjoyment.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I prefer the shifter...I like the hand eye foot coordination thing
@@SpeedCultureStudiosI'm almost always in manual mode unless I'm on the freeway and I still go to manual mode to pass someone driving too slow lol

Thanks a lot man!! I have a ton of VQ related vids so check them out if you get a chance!
How do I get my g37x to burnout
I’m not sure. Surprised there are no vids of how to do it. In the Q there is a plug in the trunk that can be disconnected to make only RWD. May be a fuse you can take out to disable awd. I wouldn’t do it though, if I were you.
reanzo kemp turn off traction control and in the q50, there’s a button under the steering wheel dash above break pedal to totally turn of traction
What size tire you put ?
275/35/19 rear
255/40/19 front
Wherw did you get the steering wheel from? I havena 16 q50s redsport and the steering wheel is so old fashioned and ugly

@@SpeedCultureStudios thank you!! Your car is looking awesome! Sending my q50s in for a chrome delete carbon wrap !
Thanks!
I just went with tein s tech springs. Moderate 1.4” drop. Did not require alignment and handles great.
I have a 2015 q40, do these same upgrades apply for mine?
Yes!
Had to watch this!!!!
Glad you did!!
The only thing these car need is a super charger 💪
And upgraded transmission to hold the power.
Has anyone cammed the 3.7 q50??
I don’t think so. But there is at least one guy that cammed a 370z.
That cough joke, 🤣🤣🤣
@@SpeedCultureStudios Will be interesting to see how much benefit you will see minus the placebo effect.
You said we DON'T need coilovers in the last his! WTF?

CARANTINED😁
The fact that you don’t understand this tells me that YOU have a “sad car enthusiast mindset and are very misinformed on mods.”
Don’t come here and try and make a point if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Why are you whispering? Speak up please sir.. love your vids.

The main mod you need is the sport version the regular one sucks
Go learn about these cars at least a little before you come here trying to act like someone.
