Part of the70's. Other than some really good music that came out in the 60's and 70's... the 'happiness' was 'spotty' for sure. The great parts of it were truly great, in fact, glorious, but the bad parts truly sucked really hard.
I saw Johnny it was either 74 or 75 in Memphis at the Auditorium North Hall . I was so buzzed on Columbian weed I can only remember the one song Snortin Whiskey Drinkin Cocaine it took four hours after the concert was over for my hearing to come back.
I crossed paths with Johnny a few times between '90 - '97, it's always great (but rare) when your hero's are good people too. Johnny Winter was one of the nicest, most gracious and humble people I've met. RIP

Johnny and Edgar Winter came from Port Arthur, Texas. ( They along with Janis Joplin sang in Black Churches before integration. Us black folk from the “Golden Triangle” have known about these white people for years. The Golden Triangle - Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Orange, Texas. They have sang with Muddy Waters, B. B. The Mid '60s to mid 70's was almost a magical time in music history that we haven't seen sInce. No F**KING Autotune, No F**KING Drum samples or drum machines. Just real talent. It wasn't just great studio albums. Most of these bands were even better live. I've never been disappointed by either Edgar's bands or Johnny's bands, but I always like it better when they were playing together.

I grew up with their music and saw them perform individually many times over. They each have a style that is unmatched by performers of today. Johnny is considered to be one of the premier blues musicians and you definitely need to her his singing as well. If you want to hear Johnny tear it up, try tracks from his album 2nd Winter. "I love everybody" is one of my faves. His slide guitar riffs are off the chart. You have an instant fan and I thank you for reacting to the great Winter Brothers. When Jimi was asked that question he said "I don't know, you'll have to ask Alvin Lee of Ten Years After, not Johnny Winter. The reason why Jimi said that to the reporter, he says candidly in the interview, was because they were discussing the 69' Woodstock Festival which had just happened 4 or 5 months earlier, and Hendrix said quote, and I'm taking this straight from the magazine right now, "I thought I played a good set at Woodstock considering it was my first time playing live with most of the musicians I played with there(save drummer Mitch Mitchell). Hendrix went on to say, "I thought Carlos Santana's guitar sounded great and I thought Johnny Winter's guitar was really strong too. I am with you, I love Johnny. Edgar is fine, especially They Only Come Out at Night and the follow-up Shock Treatment and then I lost interest but Johnny was killing it from his debut until his final a few years back just before his passing. I especially love the Johnny Winter And period with Rick Derringer (actually it was Johnny and the McCoys). Derringer contributed to both brothers as band member, song writer and producer too, I believe.
I've watched and studied your reaction of this performance many times. I notice more nuances each time. Edgar's finishing lines touched your soul. It was spiritual and moved you. Tells alot about you. I can't help but watch this reaction every morning. Gets me every time. The surprised look at first... the joy expressed on your face...leads you to conclude you've been missing something and question why. There were so many great musicians around back then, that we got complacent and thought it would always be that way. Not saying that there aren't any people making good music today, but anyone who was around back then will tell you that it's just not the same. It's just not. So glad you're getting to experience a taste of what it was like.

Two Albino brothers from Texas. So freaking talented it's unbelievable. They Love them Texas Blues, and so do I. Johnny Winter and Jimi Hendrix were the two greatest guitar players in history hands down. And that ain't just coming from me, it comes from the other great guitar players in history like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, etc. Edgar was great in his own right. What a musical family.
The last time I saw Edgar in 04 when he was 58 and he could still holler just the same, saw Johnny one last time in 07, he had to be helped onto the stage, I thought this isn't looking to good but he played the same as he ever did. Glad I was born at a time when this music and other original genres were being created because no body seems to be creating anything very original these days. There might be a lot of great technicians out there today but originality and innovation forget it.
My father played bass with Johnny and Edgar in their high school days. I grew up with their music. They are good ole Texas Boys from Beaumont. My home town. Mom made daddy quit playing in the early 60's then married in 1965. These 2 men were truly gifted . Johnny died a few years back (2014), but Edgar is still going !!!!

It's so nice to see young people discover the Winter brothers Johnny & Edgar. I saw Johnny Winter for my very first concert on August 15th, 1969 at the famous Kinetic Playground in Chicago. Paul Butterfield & Johnny Winter & The Flock were on the bill for 8/15 & 8/16. Johnny Winter & Paul Butterfield both played at Woodstock that same weekend. That was the first of many concerts for me and my friends! I'm still going to concerts 51 years later.

First of all this performance was 50 years ago. These two brothers, Johnny on guitar and Edgar on keyboards and sax busted out on the scene to a national audience at Woodstock 1969. They didn't play or LOOK like no other. Johnny stayed with Blues and Rock and Edgar went on to form his own band playing everything from Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk and Progressive Rock. One thing people would say after seeing them play live is that the Brothers Winter would just wear out the audience. I know they did me.
This song was a true depiction of life, written about Tobacco Road, in Durham, North Carolina. "Tobacco Road" is a blues song written and first recorded by John D. Loudermilk, in December 1959 and released in 1960. This song became a hit for The Nashville Teens in 1964 and has since become a standard across several musical genres. The Winter Brothers and band, brought authenticity, dynamic emotion, feeling and Real Soul to this well written song. This performance is historic, meaningful and will never be equaled. Totally agree. I saw Edgar in 1972 in baltimore in the basement of loyola college. Still ranks as one of the best live performances I ever saw.

The reason why Jimi said that to the reporter, he says candidly in the interview, was because they were discussing the 69' Woodstock Festival which had just happened 4 or 5 months earlier, and Hendrix said quote, and I'm taking this straight from the magazine right now, "I thought I played a good set at Woodstock considering it was my first time playing live with most of the musicians I played with there(save drummer Mitch Mitchell). Hendrix went on to say, "I thought Carlos Santana's guitar sounded great and I thought Johnny Winter's guitar was really strong too. But of the 3+ days of music that was played there, NOBODY outplayed Alvin Lee, and I mean nobody." "Alvin put on a guitar clinic for the ages during Ten Years After's set." "I really admire Alvin's guitar playing and how easily anything he wants to play comes to him, be it rock, blues, jazz, or whatever." I am with you, I love Johnny. Edgar is fine, especially They Only Come Out at Night and the follow-up Shock Treatment and then I lost interest but Johnny was killing it from his debut until his final a few years back just before his passing. I especially love the Johnny Winter And period with Rick Derringer (actually it was Johnny and the McCoys). Derringer contributed to both brothers as band member, song writer and producer too, I believe.

Johnny Winter and Jimi Hendrix were the two greatest guitar players in history hands down. And that ain't just coming from me, it comes from the other great guitar players in history like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, etc. Edgar was great in his own right. What a musical family.

The last time I saw Edgar in 04 when he was 58 and he could still holler just the same, saw Johnny one last time in 07, he had to be helped onto the stage, I thought this isn't looking to good but he played the same as he ever did. Glad I was born at a time when this music and other original genres were being created because no body seems to be creating anything very original these days. There might be a lot of great technicians out there today but originality and innovation forget it.
My father played bass with Johnny and Edgar in their high school days. I grew up with their music. They are good ole Texas Boys from Beaumont. My home town. Mom made daddy quit playing in the early 60's then married in 1965. These 2 men were truly gifted . Johnny died a few years back (2014), but Edgar is still going !!!!

It's so nice to see young people discover the Winter brothers Johnny & Edgar. I saw Johnny Winter for my very first concert on August 15th, 1969 at the famous Kinetic Playground in Chicago. Paul Butterfield & Johnny Winter & The Flock were on the bill for 8/15 & 8/16. Johnny Winter & Paul Butterfield both played at Woodstock that same weekend. That was the first of many concerts for me and my friends! I'm still going to concerts 51 years later.
It's a shame a record company got in the way of these two producing more songs together. RIP Johnny

First of all this performance was 50 years ago. These two brothers, Johnny on guitar and Edgar on keyboards and sax busted out on the scene to a national audience at Woodstock 1969. They didn't play or LOOK like no other. Johnny stayed with Blues and Rock and Edgar went on to form his own band playing everything from Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk and Progressive Rock. One thing people would say after seeing them play live is that the Brothers Winter would just wear out the audience. I know they did me.
