Not at that age, but now that I'm 57 - I became a fan when I discovered Century Child around 2004. I was so impressed by the album that I went looking for any band of similar genre. To this date, Nightwish Century Child remains my favorite opera metal - but this led me to discover Raspody of Fire, a power metal band and Amon Amarth (viking death metal) ... extreme stuff for my collection ... I am generally an AC/DC fan ... but I felt the need to open up my genre taste a bit, since nothing much grabbed my attention during the 90s. The only thing that impressed me was AC/DC who returned to a more aggressive form that I haven't heard since Back In Black days. At first, I wasn't sure of the term opera metal, but I sure knew that it would be unique sound - which I look for .... so different, that no one can copy even if they tried.
I was late to coming around to Nightwish as well. I guess more of a snob when it came to metal I liked back then. Now I'm far more open to bands and sub-genres.

And Tarja put out a solo album, I think, and also lost track of Tarja and everything related to Nightwish until last year. A few months ago I found a video of nightwish with a new singer, Flor Jansen, and listening to her impacted me, she changed certain lines of the songs and enriched them. I kept listening, although I already knew after forever, but here at Nightwish he has deployed all his technique and his multiple vocal registers. They have raised the quality of their performances exponentially since 2013. Great geniuses, they should go very high.
Nuclear Blast put Elan from this concert up on TH-cam today for the release. I never heard of Nightwish until around the time Imaginaerum came out. The rock station where l live doesn't play them. Literally stumbled upon them from TH-cam.

To fully appreciate Floor's vocal performance, one should know that there's an interview of Floor in which she tells that she was really sick when their Decades 2018 world tour was in South-America, even so that she could hardly speak. Her being sick might also explain why this live performance wasn't quite top notch, not to mention the quality of the audio track. Somobody also replied to this comment of mine on another reaction channel that there are effective ways to give a vocalist a temporary fix for a bad cold, but that they are not recommended to be used often as they might also do some damage.
@@NakatheMetalhead I guess the planning involved in setting up a venue for a live recording would mean that it would happen regardless and the decision would have been do we release it? I think it is a great show yeah Floor's voice starts out weak and finishes weak but the songs still work and a weaker voiced Floor is still far superior to what most singers do live when fully fit!
@@mnewm21 bit late in the comment but I'm pretty sure she wasn't sick in Buenos Aires, she was in a previous show in Colombia which was going to be included in the DVD but ended up not being part, and here she had just recovered, maybe not fully, but at 70% or so In my opinion she does pretty great regardless, I discovered her with this DVD and loved her (then of course watched Wacken and was blown away)
Really I am jealous would love to have seen them live! My bucket list is to see Nightwish live in the USA but understand they are not touring North America 2020. Like your reactions another suggestion then is Unleashed the Archers-Awakening 🤘

On the Decades CDs Tarja sang Slaying the Dreamer. It was a remaster of the Century Child version. In fact, Floor only sang three songs on Decades in 2018 (the first three). Anette sang 4-7. Tarja sang all the rest. The versions of Anette's and Tarja's were remasters of already recorded albums. HOWEVER, there was a reissue of Decades called Decades:Live in Buenos Aires in 2019 and Floor sang ALL of those. So depending on which CDs you have she may or may not have heard Floor sing it. On the BA version, Floor also sings Come Cover Me, which hadn't been sung since the Wishmaster album to my knowledge (could be wrong). Does anyone know if Floor has sung Wishmaster on any album?
Floor earlier said she doesn't intent to change the old songs, for it wouldn't be doing justice to the Decades Tour. The music of this song is merely the same as the original, but of course Floor is a different singer and won't sound the same as Tarja. I like it when Floor also joins Marco. I guess they have a chemistry together because they found each other on the heavier side of metal.
Tuomas put an end to classical delivery with Annete and continued it with Floor...pity because Floor was quite fond of it in her former bands, offering much more robust delivery

I truly understand where are you coming from as I couldn't attune my hearing with Tarja as a lead singer as well, now with Floor, they kinda have a more delicate sounding. Furthermore, Floor has a better range than Tarja - of course, Tarja is amazing, but you can hear the rock edge in the voice of Floor whereas Tarja sounds more operatic! That flow from calm and mellow sounding to operatic to metal growling we couldn't hear from Tarja. I was listening to a guy who paid Floor the best compliment ever by saying that...: "We are so lucky to be alive in a world that Floor exists"...spot on

i can relate to your experience with Nightwish. Back in high school Dream Theater was my favorite band, along with Metallica, Pantera, Fear Factory, et al, and i found Nightwish to be a little corny, though the drama with the first two singers was the main reason i didn't really follow them. Now that Floor is there, they're revitalized, all that unpleasant drama is gone, and i'm buying up all their albums and i love following their development and evolution with fresh ears. Tarja and her operatic style put Nightwish on the map, Anette filled some big shoes and recorded two excellent albums with them, but i think Floor has taken them to a new level with the way she really communicates the lyrical content in a way the others couldn't (or at least didn't) do. As far as the development of their studio sound, in terms of what was considered good then vs. now, i feel that some questionable decisions were made with the mix of the earlier albums, regardless of their era. It's surprising how buried Tarja is sometimes, as well as a lot of little orchestra-inspired nuances. Emppu gets to show off with a great solo here and there, but the simple power chord chonks are given too much weight in the mixes vs. the other aspects, and i say this as a guitar player. Side note, one of my favorite music discoveries of the last several years is Arkona, and i want to learn some Russian, so i'd better look at your earlier videos!
I found that Anette lacked stage presence. She didn't work the crowd like Tarja or Floor. And Floor seems to have helped them in the wardrobe department. They're altogether more cohesive.
The only thing that changed is the singer. Musically, the original sounds just like this. I always remembered the heavy chuggy second half but I have been a fan since '98. To be honest I prefer the music of old era nightwish vs the latest couple of albums. However, I do agree that a band should evolve musically over time. There are bands that stay the same way over time but it gets boring really quickly.
for me they are evolving, sideways, the bass line is still heavy but the melodies are far less memorable and Floor's vocals are growing more ordinary compared to her former bands and even the first 3 or 4 years into her NW stint
The Metallica influence was strong in that one. I would absolutely love it if Marko and Floor got together and produced an album together. She wrote some good songs with ReVamp, and he's also a great songwriter. I think the combination would work. What do you reckon, Naka?
@@NakatheMetalhead Yeah it was actually Wake Up Dead by Megadeth that influenced the arrangement of the song, especially that pause in the middle of the song before the heavy rhythm drops in.

Did you do "Monolith of Doubt"Because that one is very Operatic. Floor said she first heared Metal it was "Slayer" and she was repulsed by it. Floor thought it was awefull noise .(Later in an interview she said: “Slayer are a dreadful band.”) A bit lather in her Youth she heared "The Gathering" with Anneke van Giersbergen and "Nightwish"with Tarja Turunen and said YES this kind of music I want to make. I didn’t like the old Nightwish. In fact, I hated it. But Naka is absolutely right in what she said. People learn, grow, change and evolve. Bands do too. And their music off course. It’s because of Floor that I started to like the music of Nightwish. Liking turned into loving. And today I even love the same music I used to hate. That’s life I guess.
It is very hard to judge music from 20-30 years ago to today's music. The equipment and recording techniques among many other things have changed drastically. You will understand in 20 or 30 years. I remember Rock & Roll and then Hard Rock, Prog Rock, and then along came Heavy Metal, and then Punk took over and ruined the music scene. Naka, do you remember the NWBHM? Iron Maiden was one of the biggest bands out of that era of music. My point is that music styles and fans evolve over time. Young kids growing up do not want to listen to their parents music. They need to find a type of new music to call their own. Trust me Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zepplin were very cool and very heavy in their day. But even now, I can say I did not give Nightwish a chance until I heard the amazing voice of Floor! Now even with my musical experience and background I can not get enough of Nightwish and especially Floor Jansen. She is Absolutely off the charts! Can't wait to see and hear the whole new Blu-ray! I've loved everything that Flor has done so far and her versions... But this one was a miss for me. The band was great, she has excellent vocals but it was not that impactful for me. Seemed like some of her placements were off and her range was not up to par in this one. Of course we know Tarja Is fully classical which is what made this song work with her vocals. Very minor

Yes, i just re-listened to this albumand the change is really dramatic! Getting Marco is absolutely one of the best decisions that the band had made.

Слово в слово моя реакция. Пока у Nightwish была солисткой Тарья, группа проходила мимо меня. Да, некоторые песни нравились, вроде хитовой Nemo, но я не видел в них ничего исключительного. Только в 2015, случайно увидев отрывки с live-концерта в Wacken с Флор, я прямо-таки проникся. Помню, как каждый вечер переслушивал эти записи словно зачарованный - в первую очередь меня конечно завлекла дикая, первобытная энергетика Флор. На моей памяти с таким драйвом и вовлечённостью никто ещё не исполнял песни. С тех пор они и стали моей любимой группой)
И я тоже слушал (и слушаю) прог, в частности Ayreon - так приятно увидеть реакцию человека, чьи взгляды во многом созвучны моим. У тебя отличный английский, включая произношение. Для русскоязычных людей это весьма и весьма редкое явление. High five за то, что дерзаешь и не боишься записывать на нем!

i can relate to your experience with Nightwish. Back in high school Dream Theater was my favorite band, along with Metallica, Pantera, Fear Factory, et al, and i found Nightwish to be a little corny, though the drama with the first two singers was the main reason i didn't really follow them. Now that Floor is there, they're revitalized, all that unpleasant drama is gone, and i'm buying up all their albums and i love following their development and evolution with fresh ears. Tarja and her operatic style put Nightwish on the map, Anette filled some big shoes and recorded two excellent albums with them, but i think Floor has taken them to a new level with the way she really communicates the lyrical content in a way the others couldn't (or at least didn't) do. As far as the development of their studio sound, in terms of what was considered good then vs. now, i feel that some questionable decisions were made with the mix of the earlier albums, regardless of their era. It's surprising how buried Tarja is sometimes, as well as a lot of little orchestra-inspired nuances. Emppu gets to show off with a great solo here and there, but the simple power chord chonks are given too much weight in the mixes vs. the other aspects, and i say this as a guitar player. Side note, one of my favorite music discoveries of the last several years is Arkona, and i want to learn some Russian, so i'd better look at your earlier videos!

I found that Anette lacked stage presence. She didn't work the crowd like Tarja or Floor. And Floor seems to have helped them in the wardrobe department. They're altogether more cohesive.

The only thing that changed is the singer. Musically, the original sounds just like this. I always remembered the heavy chuggy second half but I have been a fan since '98. To be honest I prefer the music of old era nightwish vs the latest couple of albums. However, I do agree that a band should evolve musically over time. There are bands that stay the same way over time but it gets boring really quickly.
Yeah, i re-listened to the album tpday and i have to say it sounds a lot closer to their current sound, than the previous ones.
for me they are evolving, sideways, the bass line is still heavy but the melodies are far less memorable and Floor's vocals are growing more ordinary compared to her former bands and even the first 3 or 4 years into her NW stint

The Metallica influence was strong in that one. I would absolutely love it if Marko and Floor got together and produced an album together. She wrote some good songs with ReVamp, and he's also a great songwriter. I think the combination would work. What do you reckon, Naka?
Not so much Metallica, as hard'n'heavy stuff... And yeah, i would definitely love to hear such a project.
@@NakatheMetalhead Yeah it was actually Wake Up Dead by Megadeth that influenced the arrangement of the song, especially that pause in the middle of the song before the heavy rhythm drops in.
Nightwish Floorever 🐱👤👏👍 I had to get used to this song, although I saw them liveperforning it in Amsterdam 2018 🐱👤👀😜 You sang After Forever songs ? Did you do "Monolith of Doubt"Because that one is very Operatic. Floor said she first heared Metal it was "Slayer" and she was repulsed by it. Floor thought it was awefull noise .(Later in an interview she said: “Slayer are a dreadful band.”) A bit lather in her Youth she heared "The Gathering" with Anneke van Giersbergen and "Nightwish"with Tarja Turunen and said YES this kind of music I want to make. So it is not suprising that some people who onley knew "Nightwish" mistook "After Forever" songs for "Nightwish" songs. Now whe have the band "Floorwish" With Slaying The Dreamer Rap duet😜

I didn’t like the old Nightwish. In fact, I hated it. But Naka is absolutely right in what she said. People learn, grow, change and evolve. Bands do too. And their music off course. It’s because of Floor that I started to like the music of Nightwish. Liking turned into loving. And today I even love the same music I used to hate.
That’s life I guess.

It is very hard to judge music from 20-30 years ago to today's music. The equipment and recording techniques among many other things have changed drastically. You will understand in 20 or 30 years. I remember Rock & Roll and then Hard Rock, Prog Rock, and then along came Heavy Metal, and then Punk took over and ruined the music scene. Naka, do you remember the NWBHM? Iron Maiden was one of the biggest bands out of that era of music. My point is that music styles and fans evolve over time. Young kids growing up do not want to listen to their parents music. They need to find a type of new music to call their own. Trust me Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zepplin were very cool and very heavy in their day. But even now, I can say I did not give Nightwish a chance until I heard the amazing voice of Floor! Now even with my musical experience and background I can not get enough of Nightwish and especially Floor Jansen. She is Absolutely off the charts! Can't wait to see and hear the whole new Blu-ray! I've loved everything that Flor has done so far and her versions... But this one was a miss for me. The band was great, she has excellent vocals but it was not that impactful for me. Seemed like some of her placements were off and her range was not up to par in this one. Of course we know Tarja Is fully classical which is what made this song work with her vocals. Very minor
imho, the only song in which Floor did well , in her current, mainstream singing style against Tarja was GLS
I think the Vocal mixing in this concert is somewhat subpar to other live Nightwish concerts we all have gotten used to.
