This song never spoke to me in any especial way, until I was there at the decades tour in buenos aires 2018. There was so much energy in there, everyone united for a melody, even some security guards loved it. It was my first time listening them live and it just felt right. It felt like Floor was made for Nightwish, a truly magical night!

This video makes me so happy! I made the exact mistake of thinking it could be, I don't know if better is the word, when I heard it for the first time. But I went to see the video, the whole atmosphere, the vibe and everything. It sounds to me such a transparent peace, hope maybe. I'm not that used to feeling that listening to metal, and the music brought me something different. Anyway, keep rocking Naka!

No way for you to hear it from the perspective of someone in their mid 60s, but...
Even for us oldsters, there is still joy to be found in elan, (ee-lon/ ay-lan...), with a Zest For Life and Vigorous Spirit.
As a side note, I fall mostly hazard trees in our wildlands in the name of fire prevention and conservation, 65 - 70 hours a week, and (mostly European) metal brings me great joy and peace. When I first saw the video for Elan, I saw myself in the old people depicted there, slaving away like they were, just in a more exciting line, but finding youthful vitality in even a pop-ey, tame, feel-good folk-metal song.
Nightwish are just kind of magical like that.
It's amazing how music can unite people of different countries, ages and beliefs! Rock on!

Well, upon watching this reaction video, I noticed the choir notes on the chorus got us both. I am a musician and feel great compositions deeper than most. That choir was like a knife in the heart, teared up as well. The song is catchy, very rockin' chorus and well performed.
If you enjoyed the Tarja years, you'll be glad to know that she did a collaboration with Within Temptation on the song "Paradise" (What About Us). The music on the chorus is similar to this one though. You're gonna love it anyway! Oh, and it looks like she learned how to belt in chest voice. 😊

Atmosphere, fairy tale. It's amazing how difficult it can be to find the words to describe something so touching. I have tried with others, i know. At this point, i am content with keeping Nightwish all to myself. An island to which i can escape.

To fully appreciate Floor's vocal performance, one should know that there's an interview of Floor in which she tells that she was really sick when their Decades 2018 world tour was in South-America, even so that she could hardly speak. So she was most likely under heavy medication in this Buenos Aires show as well. Please, listen to these existing songs: Ghost Love Score, Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth. They are master pieces only Tuomas can create. No other band has the depth and artistic quality of Nightwish. They are unique.

That what you talk about Elán when it came out, just same what I was thinking back then! But usually, what is not so impressive in their album, might be in live situation. Nightwish really is live band.

I have liked Élan from the first listen. It is a beautiful and softer side of Nightwish. Somehow mystical but very joyous towards the ending. I love the key change at the last chorus. As Floor sometimes says "It just makes you feel good". I like EFMB, but I hope the new CD is a little darker and deeper. The whole evolution and miracle of life thing was good, but it's time to move on. I want to hear Tuomas write something to get the most out of Floor. She is in the prime of her vocal ability right now! It is time for her to leave her mark on the evolution of Metal. Instead of singing Tajra and Annette songs, we await the masterpieces written for Floor in a way that only she can perform! History calls out and the world awaits! Floor loves it heavy and with the emotion she can bring it is bound to be epic beyond belief! BTW those tears brought out your inner beauty to match your outward appearance as well! We see and hear all your metal badass side, but Floor has a rare and beautiful voice which brings out those hidden emotions in all of us. All hail the Valkyrie Queen! I think the new video will be out in early to mid spring?

Élan - the É is like the English long "A" sound. The word is French. You got the pronunciation right the second time you said it. The word means: vigor, spirit, or enthusiasm typically revealed by assurance of manner, brilliance of performance, or liveliness of imagination : ardor and zest are synonyms. (Merriam Webster dictionary) This song was the first single released from their album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" and also the first single released with Floor as their lead singer. For the Wacken concert of 2013 and quite a few concerts before that, Floor was a temporary singer for the band. Annette left the band mid-tour and they were lucky to get Floor to join them. I think this particular song was released as an announcement that Floor was was officially a part of the band. I believe the video (not this live performance but the music video initially released) is a call to their fans - especially the ones who may have become less enthusiastic over the previous few years - saying we are here again and here is our new singer. I can imagine that all of the venerable old Finnish actors who appeared in the official video represent those fans suddenly hearing old friends and coming back to life with Élan. That's how I see it anyway.
