    I very much enjoyed this episode. I target tidewater Coho down here in Washington and this is not too different from what I employ. This fall you should experiment with tipping your hook with a mini marshmallow. I've found that it's quite effective for Coho either plunking or drifting. I don't know if it's the color contrast, sweet scent, or the added buoyancy that floats the eggs off the bottom, but some days it makes all the difference.

    How is the current there? I want to try my kayak in that area

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is both downstream freshwater current and tidal current, making it not too turbulent throughout most of the year especially during incoming tides. The only time nobody should be out there in a kayak is during freshet, from May to July.

    I notice you use skein rather than roe sacks. Is there a reason you don't use bagged eggs?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personal preference. I find skeins work way better for coho salmon, especially in the Fraser. Bagged eggs don't emit as much scent.

    Hey Rod, could you tell me a good lake on Vancouver Island that has good summer trout fishing?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on which part of the island you are at. In Victoria, Elk Lake, Durrance Lake, Shawnigan Lake, Langford Lake, Lookout Lake can all be excellent as they are regularly stocked. In Nanaimo, Diver Lake, Long Lake, Colliery Dams are all pretty good. These are all stocked lakes with catchable rainbow trout. Further north or inland you can find some more remote lakes where bigger trout are found, but access with vehicles becomes more difficult.

    Hi Rod I am new to Fraser River fishing and can't wait for the fishing authorities to open the Fraser River for fishing. So what salmon can be kept? Is it just Coho, Chinook and Pink?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not open for salmon fishing yet. Once it opens, there'll be a fishery notice that lists out what exactly is open for retention.

    What style of rod holder are those looks better than the forked stick I'm a custom of using lol😁Thx

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kelvin I don't think these rod holders have a particular name but they are mainly used in the Lower Fraser River near Vancouver. The idea is to peg the holder into the gravel, and have the rod almost at eye level and parallel to the water, so you can watch the bites on the rod tip. These rod holders are not meant to hold onto the rod when you have a fish on, so you have to attend at all time otherwise they might get pulled into the water.

    Wait a wild fish you must release?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct. Every fishery is managed differently. In Southern British Columbia, the wild coho salmon populations are not strong enough to sustain fisheries, therefore all wild coho salmon have to be released. Instead, there are hatchery programs that produce hatchery marked coho salmon which provide retention opportunities for anglers.
