Así es. Paola Ruggeri era una ex campeona nacional de natación que llegó a participar en las olimpiadas de Montreal. Paola provenia de una familia italiana radicada en Venezuela. Antes del Miss Universo ganó en Lima el Miss Sudamerica 83 donde arrasó por su porte y elegancia, superando a rivales muy lindas. Muchos dicen que la perjudicó en el M.U el hecho de dos venezolanas ganadoras tan recientes. A treinta años de su reinado se le sigue viendo guapisima y muy natural por el este de Caracas .

USA was so robbed!! So stunning and the gown looks so sexy and elegant! She should’ve won this year, semifinal swimsuit and evening gown winner. She won the semifinals as well. What were the judges thinking?? Maybe they didn’t want another American Miss Universe that fast? She was robbed
I have a feeling that was the case, it was only three years since Shawn Weatherly won Miss Universe at that time, but I can see how the judges were charmed by New Zealand who was always right behind USA in scoring. But boy I did want Julie to win that year, but it wasnt to be. Took another 12 years for another American to win MU.
@@dansby37 yes, I think that may played a role. Actually many stunning Miss USAs went on to place first runner up at Miss Universe but many Americans that won were upsets that year.
Perhaps Miss New Zealand started to leave a big impression on the judging panel and MU Org. as the pageant stay continued in St. Louis, and then on the finals telecast night with each round. I think as Miss NZ and USA started to move ahead, being up there with Miss USA helped Miss New Zealand because the comparisons started and Miss NZ had this uniqueness, refreshing and maybe even "model" element to her that ended up standing out from Miss USA.
Miss New Zealand in 1983 was the first contestant to assigned a little sister.. Miss USA in 1995 was the last candidate to walk with a little sister.. Interestingly both won the title..
Miss Singapore evening gown looked similar to the one Celine Dion's gown when she performed in Billboard's 2019. Nice. Big tapered shoulders is baaacck! 😀
I agree , almost all of the semi-finalists will make a good miss universe, particularly miss venezuela, although I think the sipper of her gown is broken thats why she had to cover it with her hand and turn around quickly...poor girl.

Muy Bella Miss Nueva Zelanda, y la miss USA, bellísima, la que faltó en la final fue Miss Venezuela y la causa que en aquella época ocurrió lo de la Devaluación del Bolivar y el país no pago los derechos de transmisión del Certamen y Paola Ruggeri no tuvo el apoyo de Venevisión el canal que tiene la franquicia en Venezuela y por lo tanto la bajaron del cuadro Final y eso se notó a leguas ya que ella punteo desde la preliminar el certamen... lo que si la que ganó y la 1ra finalistas muy lindas, realmente había mujeres hermosas y el concurso se veía majestuoso como espectáculo de 1ra linea
Yo creo que está fue la época de oro del Miss Universo...actualmente el espectáculo da la impresión que lo hacen en una galera...ningún escenario como los de las épocas anteriore
La presentación en traje de noche era tan hermosa y emotiva antiguamente , ni aparente ahora que colocan música que ni emociona. Las niñas acompañando a las mises es algo que deberían repetir nuevamente.
que hermoso desfile en traje de noche, la verdad la produccion ese año fue espectacular y el escenario fue lo maximo, todas se veian hermosas y risueñas, aunque por supuesto como siempre un par de trajes fuera de lugar como el de Ireland esa copa gigante en el cuello parece extraterreste y la de Norway ese traje ni llega a traje de fantasia y mucho menos traje de gala está demasiado runcho y feo. Las mas hermosas en traje de noche sin duda son: USA, Switzerland muy sexi y hermosa.

Wonderful pageant and overall. Extremely beautiful contestants. Then in 1983, I was rooting for Miss USA but now, and especially after 2016 I am so glad that Lorraine won because she is prettier and she is no extreme right fascist a la MAGA like Julie Hayek, Miss USA 1983, and a very, very strong supporter of that ... trump.

Miss Spain is actually quite pretty face-wise but she needed to work on her poses and catwalk. She gave me the impression as if she had no personality or she didn’t care. Maybe she was too nervous. . I guess back in those days, many countries just sent their delegates to compete without giving them much training and preparation.

Este misa universo tuvo un aire frezco. Muy amplio el escenario, todas felices, lindas. Misa usa espectacular, la mejor misa new zelans. Lolita morena muy alegre y bella, falto misa Venezuela entre las 5 , hubiera sacrificado a la inglesa. Pero conforme finalmente. Ojala vuelvan estas producciones. Cada año era diferente y espectacular, hoy en dia ya no se distingue, todos los años parece el mismo show. Parece un mtv award. Mal mal mal
