I am an example of a person with sciatica due to disc herniation. A few weeks ago I developed this Achilles tendon pain and a lump short after the pain started. I am not a runner or heavy lifter. I am doing daily walks with my dogs. So I wasn't doing anything sudden or out of the ordinary while the symptoms started. And it developed on the "healthy" side, where I don't usually feel sciatica pain.
Having exactly same symptoms after getting a mild groin and hamstring strain duirng football mathes, very few practioners can diagnose or talk about it, most of the docs here in India are clueless.
Hi Maryke, thanks so much for this video. I’ve had an aggravated Achilles for a 3-4 months and after doing some nerve flossing realised I must have neural tension as after performing the flossing the stiffness and also feeling of tingling in the left Achilles and dampened strength have gone. I also was occasionally feeling numbness in the tibialis. It’s interesting as I don’t have any sciatic pain but definitely feeling quite tight in the glute / piriformis. I ruptured my right Achilles 10 years ago and this has made me think my job (sitting long periods) has also contributed to this. It would be amazing to see some of the exercises you prescribe for this!
If you are getting tingling and dampened strength in your leg, you need to get someone to check what is causing it as that does not sound like an Achilles injury - it may just be coincidence that it is the same leg that you ruptured the Achilles on before. The exercises you have to do will depend on what the person you consult determines to be the cause for your nerve irritation so I can't make any suggestions - what works for one can make the next worse.
Hello Maryke, I have a long history of calf and hamstring strains (on my LHS). Also have been told my physios that im neurologically tight. I can extend both legs out in the slump test but have considerable tightness through my calf, back of knee and hamstrings which decreases somewhat when i tilt my head up. currently my right achilles is irratated at the start of my run but soon goes, and as has been the case for many years, mainly LHS, i will get a lot of achilles/calf tightness after about 10mins of continuous jogging which doesnt really go away even if i start jogging/walking. Every other time of day it is perfectly fine, except if i walk up a steep hill, then they might get tight. Hopping/jumping currently irritates my achilles tendon ( RHS) and im not sure what to do next. Would cross training (eliptical) + a good rehab program be the right way forward. I can handle heavy iso holds and calf raises (however my achilles tendons dont like when i do them off of a slant board). Thanks and greatful for any feedback
Hi there, We cannot provide individual treatment advice without doing an in-depth assessment of your injury and your personal circumstances, as the advice might not be appropriate for you. You're welcome to book a video consultation with one of our physios if you would like an assessment and a personalised treatment plan: www.treatmyachilles.com/
So if we have neural tension we don’t have achilles tendonopathy and have to strech the whole lower body, and how much, is it untill we have no signs in the test
Hi Pascale, Maybe you will find this four-part video series of ours helpful - it starts with this one: th-cam.com/video/j4co9kFNKQ0/w-d-xo.html You could also book an online consultation with one of your physios for an assessment of your injury and a personalised treatment plan: www.treatmyachilles.com/
From your comment on the other video it sounds more like yours was caused by the soccer shoes. Yes, your diabetes and neuropathy may make you more vulnerable to getting this, but it does not have to be the main cause.

What kind of exercise helps release this neural Tension?

I am in agreement.

Thanks, really interesting topic!
Glad you liked it!
What exercises and stretches can help neural tension
Look up nerve flossing excercises.
don't stretch floss

makes perfect sense to me. thank you so much.
i love your accent; are you african?
She is Dutch I think.
So diabetic causes peripheral neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy causes Achilles
