    Wow this video is exactly what I needed. The rest of the internet told me it was my ulnar nerve and gave me confusing incomplete information, but your detailed descriptions at 2:06 and exercises helped me discover it was my median nerve that I entrapped when at the climbing gym last week! I've been having pain in areas associated with climbers elbow but not during muscular engagement but afterwards. I've been really confused why it doesn't hurt during climbing or exercise but directly afterwards. I got a positive for a median nerve entrapment in the elbow, and one set of glides has started to reduce symptoms. Thank you so much!

    I’ve had this for a year and thought I had some mechanical injury in my lumbricals or my Palmer/dorsal interossei muscles in my ring and pinky fingers. I did the treatments in the video and already see minor improvements to my pain and weakness in those areas. I appreciate every second of the 50 hours you spent making this video. It is insane how on point your videos are compared to most other channels talking about climbing and climbing related injuries. I had ulnar nerve entrapment in the elbow some years back. Even after seeing orthopedic doctors, a neurologist and several sessions at a physical therapist I didn’t feel as informed as I do now after watching 25min of video. I spent days researching treatments on my own and I ended up massaging and stretching the tissue around my elbow plus doing nerve glides with which I was able to get rid of the symptoms. I wish I had seen this video though as it would have saved me months of stress, pain and doctors visits. This is by far the best climbing related channel and unfortunately extremely underrated.

    This is the first video if yours I've watched. Initially I just thought this was interesting, but when I thought about it a little more, I realized I was having issues with this. I was having increasing tingling in my ring through thumb on my palm side, especially in the mornings. I tried the nerve flossing and the early results are noticable improvement after just one day (2 sets on each exercise for the median nerve). Thanks so much for making this video. It reached me at a perfect time. And now I am a superfan. Can't wait to tell my climbing friends about your channel.

    One tip for people with compressed nerve on their wrist is to pay attention when they are using the computer. I realized that it wasn't getting better because my wrist was always engaged when i was using the keyboard. Once i started to rest it in a neutral position it started slowly getting better.

    Hey. Love your channel and this video! One question: I started doing the nerve gliding and I feel tingling down my arm and into my ring finger when doing the gliding and you explained I should feel nothing. What might this imply or what should I do differently? Thanks for all you do!!

  • @marcogiacomelli3716
    @marcogiacomelli3716 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for such an informational video!
    I'm pretty sure I have some sort of ulnar nerve entrapment since I testes positively to the ULTT4 (and also a bit on ULTT1). What kind of stretches or massages would you recommend for mobilising tissue around the elbow and the wrist to complement nerve gliding? I'm afraid I could worsen the condition if I do something wrong.
    Also, physiotherapists I visited in the past for this problem suggested me to wear wrist braces during climbing since I have loose wrists (but it did not help much), could it be detrimental to wear compressive braces since it's probably a nerve problem?

    Hi Jason, you mentioned having radial nerve entrapment with lateral elbow pain (timestamp 20:28), may I ask your approach to treating this combination as I’ve won the jackpot & got both in the same arm. It’s been about 8 weeks, so far incorporated wrist flexor/extensor stretching, eccentric wrist extensions, and radial nerve tensioning. Thank you

  • @denoordzee
    @denoordzee 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Hooper, I noticed that during the median nerve tension test the palm is facing upwards but for the glide it's facing downwards. Does this make a difference?

  • @MrWarezy
    @MrWarezy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if comments still get checked.
    I've been doing ecentrics to rehab from tendinopathy (wrist curls and pronator eccentrics and tricep eccentrics).
    I can't seem to recover that last 1%.
    It seems like it's going pretty good but it flairs up again slightly if I try to increase the load/difficulty during weight lifting or climbing (slight ache/tightness or urge to massage areas).
    I get a stretching/pain sensation around my ulna nerve/pronator for pretty much all the steps on the second move (re depressing the shoulders after positioning arm).
    Hopefully shifting the focus from my tendons to my nerves helps heal the last bit.
    Should I continue with the eccentrics while doing the nerve glides?

  • @rubenbeckers8140
    @rubenbeckers8140 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another quick question. Is the first median nerve glide like that? Fingers moving up? Or should they be moving down like you would be stretching the median nerve... Thanks a bunch

  • @arnies3919
    @arnies3919 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I was wondering if you have any recommendations for an upper trap stretch that doesn't involve stretching the neck? The neural tension in my neck (circled at 2:14) tends to be exacerbated by the one I know (Ear to shoulder) but I got some toight traps.
    Also thank you for this video and content! New to the channel and am blown away by how well presented everything is:]

    • @HoopersBeta
      @HoopersBeta  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Honestly for me I like just movement of the upper traps, sometimes shoulder rolls are super useful (gently contract the upper trap then relax them both). There are of course numerous stretches out there and sometimes it takes a little experimentation to find out which ones work best for you.
      Also, welcome to the channel! Stoked to have ya :)

  • @nbka8rs

    Stoked my shirt is on the way!! Got a new born on the way and was hoping to still at least max hang OR 7:3 repeater 2-3x a week. Does lack of sleep correlated to injury still apply to controlled hangboarding? What kind of minimal effective dose training is feasible with new born baby lack of sleep?

    • @HoopersBeta
      @HoopersBeta  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yew!! Thanks for the support with the shirt and congrats on the new born! If you keep it controlled and rest when needed and don't increase your frequency too heavily you should be OK! Try to maintain 3x/week training and if you can hit most of your normal activities at least 1x/week you shouldn't have issues maintaining most of your strength.

  • @ali_bouldering

    Great video! Do you know if neural tension can cause tight forearm mucles (along the nerves) and biceps? Or is it more likely the other way around? I've been suffering from neural tension problems on both arms for a year, with an associated chronic tightness on one of my forearms+biceps.

    • @HoopersBeta
      @HoopersBeta  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, it can be either way. You can have tightness in the muscles entrapping the nerve, but you can also have neural tension which causes guarding / tightening of the surrounding muscles as it attempts to protect the area from further irritation. Sorry to hear you've been dealing with this for so long!

    loved the video, very useful! I have a question though, I stopped climbing for three weeks, but I would like to start again and try these exercises. Parallel to climbing, is it contraindicated to do some exercises such as pull-ups, pushups, and some easy weights? I mean, at least until this problem is solved

    • @HoopersBeta
      @HoopersBeta  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily, it really depends on the status of your symptoms. If you're able to modify the exercise / weight / range etc and not have symptoms, that might be preferable at this time. But it's also not a bad idea to simply ween your way back into climbing and then slowly reintroduce those other exercises. That way you can see if there are any specific triggers to your symptoms as well.

      Yes the piriformis muscle can cause compression of the sciatic nerve.

  • @MelisaBonetti
    @MelisaBonetti 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can neural tension be detected by an EMG? If not, are there other tests that can confirm this? I’m suspicious of my tibial nerve- my left calf is always super tight/stuck/dysfunctional- lots of spasms, twitching. Hard time standing in place- better when walking. Cannot do heal raises without it maxing out.

    • @HoopersBeta
      @HoopersBeta  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! I'm definitely not a specialized in EMG work itself, so I may be wrong here, but... if the nerve is decently compressed it can reduce the signal amplitude or velocity which would be picked up on an EMG. If it is just neural tension though, and only to a mild / moderate amount, it can create the symptoms you're experiencing but without the signal interruption that an EMG would pick up on.

      Sorry to hear that! Honestly my advice would be to seek 1 on 1 treatment for that. You might need exercises that are a lower tier, exploration of other areas that may be causing the symptoms, and 1 to 1 feedback/advice. Whether that's with me in a consult or with a local physical therapist, that would be better than online written advice without a consult. Sorry!

      Sometimes the treatment can be applied on both sides, other times you need to figure out the root cause. Is it from a central source, similar on both sides, or different, etc. Seeking help from a skilled practitioner might be pertinent.
