16:00 I actually asked Sapphire (the only one modding this game) on their own Discord server, they say it would be very hard or at least tedious to do, because you would need a copy of each gun to select the models. Hopefully they can implement it as a vanilla feature though, maybe it’s easier for the actual developers to do it.
20:33 Her turret complexes, designed in 1910s, placed the powder magazine above the shell room. I think this makes her more vulnerable to detonations than Barbette 4.
@@BrotherMunro Guns yes but turret complexes? My reading shows that the had a powder-handling room above the shell room to mimic the arrangement that the turrets' hoists were designed to handle, and another set of hoists moved the propellant charges from the magazines to the powder-handling room. But not a physical movement of the powder magazines to the bottom of the complex.
Vanguard's deck protection was identical to that of the King George V class, six-inch non-cemented armour. Is non-cemented armor really equitable to Krupp5?
It still can, it's just that that far forward section of the bow isn't coded (?) (not sure what the technical term is) to have the green arc show up, b/c you typically don't put your guns that far forward.
To be fair, I wonder why they even completed Jean Bart (she had a planned carrier conversion too) Really makes it weirder that they scrapped her Weird stuff by the French (no offense to French entities, food is great) Also love the history conversations at the beginning (I feel like Bismarck will beat Vanguard, and for being a late battleship, the Richelieu class were really light)
As far as I understand it (i could absolutely be wrong) she was so close to completion that converting her to a carrier would be more expensive than just finishing her as a Battleship, and id bet with how small the Marine National was post war having another capital ship was deemed worth it.
So many people dismiss her just because she has WW1 era guns, despite them being one of the most accurate naval guns of WWII, and that’s not even taking into account her supercharges, armor scheme, and that she was the first battleship to have all of her weaponry having RPC from the get-go
Annoyingly I don’t have the primary reference for the actual armour composition* but the use of Krupp V was to represent the fact that although Vanguard had a thinner belt than the KGV’s her protection was considered greater.
It always bothered me that UAD takes the quad KGV turret and basically just yet the two middle rings and calls it a twin, instead of using the twin KGV turret. The twin turret always had a nice look turret but UAD’s one looks far too large for a twin-turret and the spacing between the guns make it ridiculous. Then there’s the smaller caliber gun models almost never being British. Weird seeing the Japanese 12.7 cm/40 Type 89’s A1 Mod 1 mount as a British twin 40 mm AA gun. Here’s to hoping they’ll eventually let us put 5.25” turrets on a destroyer instead of the weird weird fantasy turrets they force you to use instead.
They were (or at least the mountings) but they were thoroughly modernised by Harland and Wolff before being fitted. The use of the Mk 4 is also to represent her superchargers.

If my aunt had balls shed be my uncle. Dosnt matter what cpuld have been. If they did that why not a montana or super yamatos. She was built with 8 15s so she gets 8 15s
Every reference I can find has Vanguard’s development beginning with the spare 15 inch guns from the start. The only 16” design the RN was considering at the time were the Lions (which had 9 in three triple turrets).

Vanguard had her guns modified so that the magazine was below the shell room just like the KGV’s (but unlike every other 15” armed RN ship)

No but then UAD has a hell of a lot more deck hits than any real life engagement!
It was very similar but also different in places.
awesome im so excited to watch the rest
Saying you might have to build 3 ships for the Americans - I'm guessing that means a North Carolina, a South Dakota, and an Iowa.
I think it might be possible to mistake this ship for a refitted HMS Hood, tbh.
Could have possibly upped her displacement a bit for the extra length as she came in way underweight anyway.

It sure looks like the green fire arc indicator for A shows that it can’t fire directly ahead?
It still can, it's just that that far forward section of the bow isn't coded (?) (not sure what the technical term is) to have the green arc show up, b/c you typically don't put your guns that far forward.
The green indicator just clips through the deck, as the deck slightly rices towards the bow.

why not use the modern battleship II hull?
Great!
Lovely, hope she performs well. The amount of pseudo-historians who don't understand this ship at all is seemingly never-ending
Don't worry, like with KGV their opinions were well-enforced.

Krupp 5?
I see nothing in Wiki or other online sources that indicates the nature / composition of Van’s armor was any different from KGV.

Drach, that’s a hint for a birthday gift if ever I’ve heard one.
Whilst I stand by what I said earlier after rewatching both videos it also may simply be that we didn’t have Krupp V in the game when we built KGV 😅

Granting her Mk4 guns is a big , seriously ahistorical advantage.
