    Degradation, although not huge, is one good reason to get the big battery if you can. I fear that many people don't consider that when evaluating their needs.

    On mine, (less than a year, 51000km, very little supercharging), it stops charging between 98 and 99%... 465km. By the way since last SW upgrades (2020.16.3 and 2020.20.12), scan my Tesla seems to double SOC, SOC expected, battery remains... so I charge daily to 180%...

      We have lots of bracken in the UK. In Japan they eat the young "croziers" but unfortunately it does have a cancer risk and populations that routinely eat it have a higher rate of stomach cancers. In the UK some sheep get a "bright eye" condition which affects their sight.

    A new Mod 3 prop long range is supposed to have 78kwh with 74 useable kWh. Industry standards dictate that true performance loss is always counted from the initially sold contractuals specifications, not from some early measures already out of specs. and the autonomy reduction vs autonomy sold is even higher than stated and enough to be subject to contractual litigation for loss of product value.

    I'm not sure if I'm seeing it correctly but I believe the car used 12000 kWh driving, almost 15000kWh overall.
    That means average consumption for the 60000km was 200Wh/km or 320Wh/mile.
    This is way above the expected consumption and it gives the car a range of close to 200 miles, far from 300 miles.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's total including winter, short trips, etc. For shorter trips in winter, consumption will be high. But it's irrelevant because you have home charger nearby and range is not a problem around town. For long trips, consumption is lower. Real range is in fact 400-500 km.

    I need to do another degradation/capacity test on mine. I did mine around the same time as you know. I still feel like Tesla had tweaked the spec a few times over past year and 9 months. Corona cut my mileage by a LOT so I would been out of limited warranty 2 months ago, at 45.7k miles. SMT: 72.6 kWh full, 13.1 mWh AC, 1.6 mWh DC. Also lists Energy Buffer of 3.3 kWh hmmmmm

    Degradation is not linear over time, so you can't calculate it that way and say the degradation will be 7% instead of 9%. Degradation from 100% to 96% is very fast for tesla batteries (probably failed cells) and then it slows down (normal degradation over time). Search for "tesla battery degradation chart". And probably at some point it starts increasing again as battery degrades under 80% or so (too little data so far).

    • @MacGuyver85
      @MacGuyver85 4 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @benjaminangehrn7010
    @benjaminangehrn7010 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, even if Tesla didn't change the Software as you said, the degradation wouldn't be double as much after double the time, because battery capacity decay isn't linear, but exponential. You would have to take that into account when doing another test later.

    I always wondered : batteries are loosing capacity because it has a certain amount of charging cycles.
    So, wouldn't it be more efficient to drive with no regen at all and just drive a maximum on the "momentum" of accelerations ? Brakes still use regen as much as it can anyway no ?
    The more you avoid charging batteries, the longer their lives.
    Or am I completly wrong ? I don't even have an EV yet lol.

    • @realulli
      @realulli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Li-Ion don't quite work that way. They don't degrade by cycles but by the amount charged at what charge level. So, charging 1% at 80% SoC does more damage than charging 1% at 20% SoC. Also, just sitting at a high SoC in high temperatures causes some degradation.
      So, regening a little when decelerating doesn't really damage the battery more than just wasting the energy, then charging back up.

    6% after 60k km and 14 months sounds about OK, at least if that is a linear process. My X90 has twice the km (120k km) and is 36 months old and has 11.4% degradation. Hope the curve flattens somewhat...

    is the degradation the same as the model S?

    Hei Bjørn,
    kan du lage en video der vi ser hvordan kona de tilbereder de bregnene du plukket og tok med hjem til henne slik at hun kunne plate dem i hagen.
    Jeg trenger en oppskrift :)

    You are typical Asian. You remind me my mom. We were from China. When she came to Canada to see me she use to pick wild vegetables like you.

      How about not stereotyping? Fiddleheads are commonly eaten in USA and Canada. Just Google it.

      Bjørn Nyland I think you misunderstood me. I meant in a very warm and friendly way. You made me miss that part of being from Asian background. Love your journey. Sorry if I made you feel offended. Thank you.

    The rims are cool, 7.5kg for 19 is really impressive! Bjørn, did you have a chance to weigh the entire wheel?

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I checked the actual weight (and not just based on specs):
      - Tesla 19" original rims with Hankook tires: 23.5 kg
      - Mag 52 19" rims with Winrun R330: 18.2 kg

      P.S. my e-golf came at stock 16" aero with same 18 kilos, lol

    132wh/km is great! 500km real range. :D
    However I think 4% (or 6!%) is a bit high. You do DC-charge almost twice as much as AC-charging. I wonder what the effect on degradation is. I only DC charge a couple of times in a year (I drive 40.000km/year).
    They say the most degradation you get in the first 20.000km or so?
    With temperatures around 25c, if I drive almost only highway (105km/h AP) I get 145-150wh/km in my Model 3 Performance. (stock 20" rims). I think that's oke. in winter it's 20-25% higer.

    Any other SR+ drivers getting in the 140 Wh/km range even on the highway? Not sure if I'm driving like a grandma or the difference between SR+ and Perfomance is that big.

    What amount of battery degredation do you think (or do you have data) there's when 99% of the charges are done from schuko (1,7 - 2,5 kW) and always to 100%? Thanks!

    Tesla never removed 2 kWh from model 3 batteries. You already claimed that but that’s wrong. The BMS has a capacity value for a brand new battery and this is 77.8 kWh. SMT report this value on iOS app and android in beta version. The buffer always used to be 4.5% from the nominal full pack. Your real degradation is 72.6/77.8 who equals to 6.7%. Tesla never changed those calculation.
    You’ve lost 2 kWh suddenly and it happens like that. Capacity remains stable for a certain amount time and then drops like that.

      Watch my video again. Tesla did a sudden software change that made my range go from 499 to 475 km.

    • @stsukx7469

      Bjørn Nyland Already did. You even made a video 1 year ago to excuse yourself for blaming Tesla to have made such modification w/o warn owners. Tesla never did such thing, you admitted it. Why change your mind again now ?
