What about all those personal assets, furnitures, really valuable possessions lost in fire, and all the time and effort to relocate? Those things insurance aren't going to cover. Insurance is a money making entity, the agents calculates how little they should provide and still make profits. Don't depend on insurance, protect yourself and your family first!

    Just throwing out an idea here. Since these homes usually have a swimming pool, would it be possible to have a pump installed that would pump that water to the top of the roof and extinguish the embers that start the fire on the house. Cost of pump, batteries, piping would be small compared to the cost of the house.

    • @jrunner5k
      @jrunner5k 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      right, a 8000gallon pool, $500 harbor freight pump, extra gas tank, 4 or 5 hoses and just yard/garden sprinklers could have saved them. you dont put out the fire you keep it from catching on fire

    I’ve just recently returned from a great vacation in LA and other areas and I’m always baffled as to why nearly all American houses are built of timber. Here in the uk it’s all bricks and mortar which helps prevent fires spreading. Yes we get house fires but the get contained quickly. But aside from observation I do feel for all the people who have lost no only their house and possessions but also memories. Well done to the fire dept for all the hard work you do.

    • @cesarsnkrs1135
      @cesarsnkrs1135 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      We build houses here that way due to California and all
      Of the western side of the United States being Earthquake territory, Timber/Lumber is flexible in the event of such earthquakes that it minimizes the chances of homes falling down. If all construction was made of brick, nothing would survive in the event of a major quake, not counting the amount of injury and death that would come with by people dying being crush essentially by rocks.

    • @SamSung-ew3dk
      @SamSung-ew3dk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cheaper, quicker, and easier to incorporate complex architectural elements when not using bricks / concrete. Just about all houses in US are built this way unless in Florida’s hurricane zones where the houses there are indeed built using concrete blocks to withstand hurricanes. You can use concrete in earthquake zones. The concrete just has to be properly reinforced and again, this adds more cost relative to timber.

      The fires likely started when the embers blew into the eaves or the roof. These tile roofs sit on top of plywood The fire burns from the roof down . The problem was that the houses back up to the canyons that were brush heavy. Some of the walls on these homes are still standing because the walls were coated with stucco.

      A fire suppression system would only be helpful if the fire started inside the house. These wind-driven wildfires often get into the house from the roof, eaves, and windows where your fire suppression system would be absolutely useless. As for using the pool against the hillside of flames, It's like pissing on a forest fire. The biggest thing that could have prevented this would have been clearing the brush on those hillsides

      It's obvious if something doesn't happen to cities of debauchery worldwide, apologies are going to have to go out to Sodom & Gomorrah. Well, that's NOT going to happen.
      So, the corrupt, Pagan idol-worshiping cities are getting what they deserve..plagues "Of Biblical Proportion". Lol It's the "Apocalypse"! (not hardly. just a little spiritual payback)
      Apocalypse has come to be used incorrectly as a synonym for catastrophe, but the Greek word apokálypsis, from which it is derived, means a revelation. (revealing) 😎👍 ☕

    Honestly this comment section is really messed up! Rich or poor, a house is a house! It's a piece of art, all the architecture and interior design, all the time and effort it takes to build a house like this, all gone in an instant. And there are some people wanting all the houses of "rich people" burn.
    Money doesn't fall from sky. Rich or poor, even with good conditions they all have to work to have such money to build and maintain a house like this.
    Hating rich people and wishing fire upon someone's house won't help you become less poor. You may be unhappy and jealous, but at least act like a decent human being.

    In response to a previous poster ...
    " ... I'm always baffled as to why nearly all American houses are built of timber."
    Builders in the U.S. pretty much write the building codes. They want cheap material, to maximize their profits. It's the unrestricted capitalistic way.
    Ditto apartment complexes, where apartment units are physically connected, usually without fire walls. Again, the same motivation. Builders write the building codes, then construct these mega apartment buildings, cheaply. So when one apartment unit burns, they all burn. Nice money-making racket, eh?
    The ONLY motivation for the widespread use of timber in housing construction is >>> HIGHER PROFITS for builders.
