Would be a good Comic villain someone who only references speaks in Haiku form you would need a creator writer with the chops but done right could be a banger
Frank Miller in 1982: "Sorry Chris, but I don't like working with psychopathic characters." Years later, he wrote and drew Holy Terror. How does THAT happen?
Wasn't Neal Adams that said he feels bad for only mentoring Miller in the art aspect, and not about life? I think he implied that the guy clearly had drug problems.
@@MrTomlette I don't know. I'm not too familiar with Frank's outside life aside from him being in NYC when 9/11 happened at that being a huge basis for his worldview moving forward. I had no idea about the drug problems.
Easily my favorite interpretation of Wolverine. The 2000s and 2010s with his tenure in the Avengers turned him into a mindless killer. He has nuance in this story.
Just rewatched The Wolverine this evening and knew I needed to check this episode out again afterwards to compare and contrast. Rather impressed with how much they kept while still making it quite different.
I’ve been watching this channel since 10th grade and now I’m about to graduate college. Thanks for helping shape me into the comic book nerd I am today! 💙💙💙
My copy also collects the two wedding issues from Uncanny X-Men, and boy is the tonal whiplash nuts. It goes from Logan questioning his nature and his place in the world, to Storm getting a new hair cut and treating that like character development.
33:30 Man I didn’t realize Genndy Tartakovsky’s love for Frank Miller ran that deep. The most obvious one I remember is the 300 Spartans episode from Samurai Jack.
1:05 NEW COMICPOP HEAD CANON: Ethan IS Bastian!! Every time he’s not on camera he’s in the land of The Neverending Story!! Just looked it up, it’s called Fantastica!?! WTF? Lmao!
Great episode as always. I think the dates mentioned are off a little bit as this mini-series was originally published in 1982. Ronin would begin to be published in the following year but shows as Sal alluded to that Frank Miller had an interest in Japanese culture for some time that also bled into his run on Daredevil that started prior to this mini. Love the show and keep up the great work!
Awesome episode Sal and company! This is one of my favorite Wolverine stories. I mean it was his first solo outing and gave you extra insight into his character plus lots of killing and slashing. Joe Rubinstein pronounces his last name (Rubin-Steen). I know that because I met him back in 2017 and he told me. It was awkward to say the least hahaha. But he did sign all four copies of the Wolverine mini series I brought with me and I purchased a cover recreation he did for issue 1 that is only inked. But it's an awesome piece.
11:34 I like the idea that Logan is spoken to in a foreign language, speaks it fluently back, and is then surprised he knows that language. Like, “Huh, didn’t know I could understand Dutch”
Funny timing. I've been wanting to get into wolverine comics so I just grabbed this. Haven't started it yet, though. So, I guess I'll be back here once I've finished it 😊
I absolutely love Claremont's/Miller's WOLVERINE. I have that same TPB, and I would read it over and over. It's absolutely amazing. And I love that someone snuck a copy to Hugh Jackman for him to read.
When we were kids, this was a fave. "I'm the best there is at what I do. 'You're the best there is at what you do..'" Bus ride scene is solid in my mind for almost 30yrs

The omnibus edition of wolverine is amazing and one of the best collected edition i own! Can't say about masterworks, never tried it but logically it should be better if not oversized. As Sal said, in any form possible every comic book fan should own this.
A dog seeing wolverine must be like that scene scene from mystery of the batwoman where the Doug notices Batman in the room and they just look at each other and someone asks him. Is there something wrong and he's like? Nope and he just closes the door.

Sal accidentally said '87 and not '82! FAKE FAN ALERT!
What a hack fraud!!
LOL, JK
That makes a lot more sense
Not trying to bust your balls over it. Just that the differences between '82 wolvie and '87 are huge, and it really all began with this mini series.
@@victorkain3500 Naturally.
Lol.
Chris Claremont: "What if Wolverine was a total weeb?"Frank Miller: "Don't mind if I do!"
Did Frank wiggle his fingers while he said that?
Has there ever been a more true statement than, "As all great samurai stories begin, in the wilderness of Canada."?

We all fail to appreciate how Tiffany tries to tailor her outfits with each back issues episode. I see you Zubes

It’s crazy how many episodes you’ve done and there’s still no shortage of iconic stories. I didn’t realise this hadn’t been done yet, awesome.
Had the exact same thought. I saw the thumbnail and just assumed this was at least a year old. I mean, it's _the_ Wolverine run!
One of Keanu Reeves' favorite comic books.

Frank Miller in 1982: "Sorry Chris, but I don't like working with psychopathic characters."

Drugs, and/or Clinical Insanity. Or, a third thing that I am not smart enough to consider.
9/11 and racism

Partially, but i also blame Daniel Way becuase he essentially changed the type.of characther he was sadly.
My favorite is Old Man Logan. Too bad Marvel got rid of him.
“She got married, sometime between bear-slayings by Wolverine” 💀💀💀💀
I was always a patron of Wolverine having a girlfriend from Japan. Japan has always been good/decent to him.

Dude is looking fresh as fuck
