TOMO-ZO is always in the top five guitarist ranked in the Japanese Rock Magazines. Now her and SAKI are my favorite guitarist period with many others close behind Kanami, Midori, Miyako, HAZUK, Mina Taicho (Captain Mina) TOKI, Yoshi, MISAKI, AYUMI, as well as the newest ladies LI-SA-X and HAL-CAL. If you check out the NAONのYAON shows over the years TOMO-ZO and SAKI have rocked the show. TOMO-ZO has the most contagious smile I've ever seen, and such a get attuite to go with it. But look at the following Gaharic Spin has they have been years making. Funk, Punk, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal they can do it all. Like I say we have allot great music ahead of us. The Japanese Invasion has begun!!! Thanks, Ryan for the outstanding reaction as always.

can't find it right now, but there's a pic of TomoZo playing guitar on TV at age 16, backing a boy band. many famous female japanese guitarists started out of High School (Midori, Miyako, Narumi), but I hadn't heard TomoZo started late. All i do remember tho is that she was inspired by the band Judy & Mary...

@@timgove5337 I've seen a short clip of her performance at 16 - I seem to remember she was way off to the left side, in back, and only visible for a second or two. Didn't save the link, though. Found an interview that said she started playing in elementary school. The part about starting lessons at 14 was from a recent interview I read - she decided to get serious and started commuting by train to some sort of school.

This reaffirms what I always thought, that Tomo-Zo is such an underrated guitarist. This is just a pure rock solo performance. Her playing often gets buried in the pop melodies that Gacharic Spin play and as you said they are all so talented and like Band-Maid, there are no egos. Fantastic. Thanks Ryan!

Great reaction, thanks for this. Tomo-Zo is such a fantastic, interesting, inspiring - and often overlooked - guitar player. She’s right beside Kanami one of my guitar inspirations. And like Kanami a very humble and gentle person, always serve the song instead of the ego. Gacharic Spin was the first japanese all female bands I discovered back in 2012 - thanks to my wife - and I was mesmerized by Tomo-Zo right from the beginning.

I honest to God think Tomo Zo is THE MOST versatile guitar player I've ever heard. She can play anything she wants to play, seemingly limitlessly - and her phrasing is so f-ing Unique. And that Constant SMILE!! And Oreo is SO underrated on the keys. You don't need a solo from Koga, because every minute of every Gacharic Spin song is basically a Koga solo. And check out those scoop shaped drums Hana is playing. Thanks for this, Ryan 🙂

Talking about Hana just sitting back and not doing much in this song something a lot of people in the west could learn from, especially in the music industry. Save a few exceptions it seems like everyone in all these amazing bands from Japan are all in it for the right reasons and there is no ego involved at all.

TOMO-ZO is legitimately underrated. I hear people say "so-and-so" is underrated all the time, but that's not usually the case. TOMO-ZO truly is. She just wanders around the stage with a big grin, ripping on that guitar. It doesn't even look like she's trying. She makes it look effortless, unlike a lot of guitarist I've seen. No stankface for T-Z, it's just smiles for days.

the entire band (and I love Yuri the new drummer even more than Hana) is so talented. but for me F.Chopper Koga is THE most talented in the band, yet she never tries to be front and center, she supports EVERYONE else and lets them all shine. but She is hands down one of the best bassists out there IMO. and I would love to see her more center stage, she has a vibrant personality, amazing speed and power on the bass in all different styles from slap to finger picking, etc. she's fantastic and frenetic. but she also has a great voice and a smile that will just melt my heart every time. so as much as I am really happy to see Tomo Zo dancing around and showing off, I need a track like this for Koga some day that puts her out in front for an entire song and let's her shine to the level I know she can.

As someone who appreciates heavier music, you can't check out Gacharic Spin without checking out their early years, where they were much closer to a punk rock band than the glamour we see today. For your own viewing pleasure, find "Gacharic Spin - 1st Anniversary LIVE~衝撃!笑撃?SHOW劇~ 完全版" on TH-cam, jump to about 9:30 and watch the next three songs. You'll have a whole new appreciation for them. That is Gacharic Spin as a real rock band. I still consider those early songs amongst the best they've done.... and it does not hurt that Armmy is pretty dang easy on the eyes. Too bad for her passing. In something straight out of "Eddie and the Cruisers", what she was working on when she died was sounding very promising. She was making a move towards much heavier music. Search for "HungryButterflyDemo" on TH-cam to hear a piece of it. Possibly as close to something "Babymetal" as anything we've heard to this point.

As soon as I discovered her in Doll$Boxx a while ago, Tomo-Zo quickly became my favorite guitarist. She is like a studio musician who can play everything she wants in multiple musical genres. I would like to listen to her in some acoustic pieces, I am pretty sure this would be phenomenal. On this track, I love the way she moves on stage, love her constant smile and joy, so infectious, and her playing is just brilliant and always on point. Her solo section (from 2:50) reminds me a lot some Gary Moore vibes. So cool. And finally, needless to say thar Hana, Koga and Oreo (so funny the Hamburger outfit), are insanely good, and bring everything to let Tomo-Zo shines on stage. Truly impressive.

'Nicorin-sei no Tsuukin Rush' has more in common with 70s jam & fusion bands, from the finger twisting unison motifs/harmony lines played on all three melodic instruments, playful use of syncopation and the mono synth type sound used by Oreo for her solo. There's not a great deal of improvisation in Tomo-zo's playing on a track like this, she very much takes the compositional approach for her solos on recordings as well. This era is the first one that Angie witnessed as 15-16 yr old and turned her into a Pinko (female Gacharic Spin fan; as opposed to a Gachaman). I'm not sure if it counts as part of the Tomo-zo Fantasy Suite of compositions or not, with her not taking lead vocals.
This era of GS is very interesting musically at times, but between some of the more dance/electronic compositions that rely heavily on backing layers occasionally overpowering the live performances and the eccentric outfits (particularly of Tomo-zo & Oreo), I find it much easier to sell a new person on the current GS 5.0 lineup initially.
Plus you now have five members who can sing lead (plus Koga can now contribute some chorus harmonies, previously she could only manage hype vocals/shouts) and several multi instrumentalists (hana plays everything, yuri plays drums, guitar & keys, Tomo-zo plays guitar & keys) at a level where they can comfortably swap instruments at times (Hana first played guitar live for GS with Tamu Murata on drums when Tomo-zo was hospitalised (planting seeds for the current lineup when the last dancer Mai left/graduated) and yuri swapped with hana for certain songs at early 5.0 live shows playing 2nd guitar & lead vocals)

On the Band Maid Reddit there is a pic of Tomo and Kanami hanging out during the 2016 NAONのYAON event.

Kara Ryan. Another great reaction. Unfortunately I often do not get your written comments. For me the disappear too quickly from the screen. Maybe you can make them to stay a bit longer (or write in Esperanto ;-)) ).

Their music isn't exactly my cup of tea but dang, their live shows are a spectacle. Throw in their obviously stellar musicianship and you got yourself one heck of a band!

Hey Ryan, react to Rolling Quarts! It's a Korean all female rock band! Love your reactions!
