    video #2: • pt2 Gacharic Spin Inst...
In this video I react to Gacharic Spin and an instrumental that i have no idea what it is called though.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

It might just be because I just saw them live, but her drumming reminds me a lot in places of Kansas' Phil Ehart - the skipped beats, stuttersteps and really angular syncopation . VERY cool. Gonna have to look into this band more than I have, obviously!

The drum pattern is basically James Brown's "Cold Sweat" (1967) but faster

I will check the review, but can’t believe you got thru the reaction without mentioning how lil Bo Peep convinced Keith Emerson to don a “Royale with cheese” suit! My favorite group of virtuoso entertainers 💃🎸😎

Gacharic Spin are brilliant, this track "Nicorin Star Commuter Rush" is a chance for Tomo-Zo to really show off what she can do because she's very usually very much a "play for the track" player who rarely takes lengthy solos or leads, but she's great at it when she does!
Everyone gets to show off what they can do in this track though, from the unusual, groovy, and off-kilter drum patterns, to Koga's funky bass lines, to Oreo's tasty keyboard solo.
My personal favourite band due to the combo of great playing skills, creative and experimental but still catchy song-writing, and the sense of sheer joy and exuberance that flows out of them, especially live.
As others have mentioned, their new track MindSet is fantastic and well worth taking a look at if you want something funky and a touch proggy.

I know you probably get a lot of requests but I'm hoping you can fit this song in your rotation.
    Tanagra - Witness
It's maybe the best song I've heard in the past decade. It's 14 minutes of prog goodness.

Check out Gorguts, canadian avant-garde technical death metal. Technically demanding, structually complex songwriting with strong use of dissonant and atonal guitarwork.
Gorguts - Obscura (early material -98)
Gorguts - Forgotten arrows (from the last full length album 2013)
They also have released one song 33 minute ep in 2016.

Aaaw, my first mention :´) - Glad you liked it. And I agree about the happy vibes, the main riff could be from a sunny Sonic the Hedgehog stage. This one is nice, because it puts some spotlight on Tomo-Zo (guitar), she's usually not that prominently featured in GS, although she's a great guitar player. Another one that is quite guitar heavy is their latest release Mindset, she's going for funk instead of rock there, but also killing it: th-cam.com/video/QmL0V667QzI/w-d-xo.html
If you really like them, I'd also recommend getting some of their DVDs & Blu-Rays, because a lot of their best stuff isn't on TH-cam. Amazon Japan is a good source, since they ship worldwide and also do all the customs stuff, when you order there, so there's less of a hassle when importing.

I don't know if you have already checked the darker side of these girls, Doll$Boxx: th-cam.com/video/EOLZ2gLGwL4/w-d-xo.html , by the way as I understand "Gacharich" is a deformation of the english word graphic.

    • @deanwolfechannel

      graphic spin? interesting

    • @nanakakitano9724
      @nanakakitano9724 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

My understanding of "Gacharic" is that "Gacha" is taken from the onomatopoea "Gacha Gacha" to describe clattering (also used with Gacha vending machines etc) with "ric" added as a "fake Englishisation" of something "being in the state of" - e.g. asymmetric for a thing that has the state of asymmetry.
