Giardiello, Robert Costanzo, did really well in that scene. Most of his scenes were forgettable yelling but his romancing Laura was well acted. He seemed so genuine. Hilariously sweet. :)

Shen he says you have to promise me you will calm down...then gets female detective to stay with her. That's super powerfull acting. He was a very good looking guy back then. When he pulls gun on Norman reporter that's a top 5 scene nypd blue

@James Dryman, His detective John Kelly character was brilliant acting. You're viewing his character with hindsight knowing how he left the show. The entire show was rewritten to make the Sipowicz character the new star after Caruso's messy departure. If Caruso had stayed, there would have been several seasons of gold TV.
Gordon Clapp (Medavoy) played a SVU perp. Christopher Meloni played a NYPD Blue perp. James McDaniel (Lt Fancy) played a Law & Order perp...in the same season 1 episode where S. Epatha Merkerson played a mother of a murdered baby son. Of course, Mike Post supplied the mood music for both NYPD Blue and all of the Law & Order shows.
This scene is so frustrating. What are the chances that a window cleaner just happens to be at the window of a witness against the mob? The audience is being asked to suspend reality to a ridiculous level. My favorite show but this scene was comical

the show got significantly better after the first season. this scene was terribly shot. the only thing this scene shares with later episodes are the familiar "life of new york" exterior shots.

I love NYPD Blue but this is one of the most unrealistic and poorly done scenes of the entire series. Wide-open curtains? Completely conspicuous "window washer" that is basically just standing there forever and no one thinks it's weird? Laura just happens to leave the room right before the hitman opens fire? Then the hitman shoots 6-7 times from a single-barrel shotgun that has no magazine? Come on man.

It's done to create excitement. U look at these shows as if they are supposed to be real. The idea was to see the shooter and the excitement cmon man
That is a pump shotgun with a tube magazine directly under the barrel. Check your glasses you might need a new prescription
