  • My overview of this specialty knife, the Spyderco Rescue 3. Fully serrated VG-10 Sheepsfoot blade intended for EMS/First responders. This knife is perfectly designed for this use, and would also function well for someone needing a pocket saw for small branches or plants. Not for EDC!

I could see this coming in _really_ handy for somebody that might do _ranch or orchard for instance!_ This thing could take care of a pretty thick piece of green wood in a heartbeat. And then cut irrigation hose, ABS or PVC pipe a minute later. The one thing that gives these a huge advantage is you can leave it out in the field house for a season and not have to worry about sharpening it - even if it's been left out in the rain. It's going to cut. Maintenance free ranch/farm/orchard cutter that you can pocket. (I grew up in apricot orhards) Great consult as usual, and some good points!

True. I use a Spyderco Delica fully serrated for farm work. Serrated is much more handy in a farm setting.

As a first responder I have tried a few knives of this style but haven't really found any that I like more than the leatherman raptor (not sure how they compare on price) good review Doc

Kevin cleary thanks for the input! I think this might work best as a pocket saw!

I've actually been contemplating a serrated knife in the last couple days, but more for cutting coolant lines/rubber hoses at work. I might try one out, see how it goes, since I rather not eff up my EDC with it since you usually put the hose on top of some metal surface to cut down on it.
PS: Small suggestion, if your scale can switch to metric, maybe you could just throw in the metric weights when you weigh a knife. You're a man of science after all, and it'd be nice for everybody outside the US. ;)

I bought the salt series. I carry them just about everyday. They are super comfortable to carry and use. They aren't man jewelry, but extremely functional.

I recently got the all black pacific salt fully serrated and it's totally changed my perception on serrated knives. Not sure I'll be purchasing many more plain edges.

Doctor Frunkey I just saw that. I just wish they would do that and the dragonfly in black. I'm not really a big fan of the yellow for everyday carry. I don't mind when I'm on the boat or in the water, just not the yellow for everyday. I like the black, with the black blade.

I might try a handle swap or Rit Dye

Back-lock Spydercos are designed to be closed one-handed.
    - Place your index finger in the first finger position below the 50/50 choil
-press the back-lock with your thumb
-flick the blade down it will be caught by your index finger with the blade portion of the 50/50 choil
    -release pressure on the lock
-move fingers out of the blade path
-depending on your action press the blade into the handle using the blade spine against your leg or if the action is good enough you can flick the blade back into place
I have a Dragonfly 2 you can spydie flick open and flick closed one handed. In the near future I'm picking one of these up as part of a therapeutic process accepting that my decades long career as a first respsonder is over. I will be able to tune this knife to behave the same was as the Dragonfly 2

If this was a SOG rescue tool, the shape of the serrations would spell out the name SOG.

It's kinda ugly as sin, but I'm sure it serves it's purpose admirably, or at least fairly well.
