    The mournful operatic vocal as the mustard etched into the steel was deeply moving. A powerful meditation on impermanence.

      @@archibaldtuttle8481 He's so funny and casual you can miss how serious he is. I think most of us buy knives online, never having handled them like you would in a store, certainly never testing them rigorously, and we need recommendations from people whose judgment we can trust. I'm not super-demanding about steel but Pete can help you learn what to expect from various steels and make a better judgment yourself about what fits your needs. Listening to all the folks out there who are good has already saved me a lot of money and frustration.

      I couldn't agree more, how Pete isn't over 300k idk... when other simple reviewer channels who aren't even true knife people but more along the line of look how good the action of this timascus pocket jewelry is type channels are approaching 300k and sky rocketing going from 10k to 250k in a year... and Pete is the truest reviewing hard core knife channel is stuck with no where as many subs... it's beyond me.... his videos are funny, huge info, well edited, true knife reviews (not open a box and review a knife they haven't even used like most channels) that he has used and tested the knives out... Pete's channel is literally the best knife channel on youtube... his videos/tests are literally the text books of knife/steel test data.... no one else even comes close, I personally test knife steels and do instagram writeup type posts rather then videos and I know how time consuming doing cut tests as accurate and consistently as possible takes and that's without me filming them so I know Pete puts a huge amount of work in to this channel... he vastly deserves 500k subs.

    Finally a knife channel with info and not 15 minutes of dribble while opening and closing a spyderco non-stop

    • @EDCandLace
      @EDCandLace ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is accurate except for the opening and closing a spyderco part.... it's more like then endlessly telling how great the knife they just opened is that all they have done is sliced a piece of paper with and endlessly talking about how smooth the action is on this Reate or Maxace and how snappy the detent is... oh yeah and don't forget to look how "drop shutty" it is (pukes, I hate that term... drop shutty 🤮)... at least the ones flipping a spydie at least have a well heat treated and high performance knife in their hands.... it's the ones talking up the Ti frame lock Reates, QSPs, Maxace etc that are in 57-58hrc m390 that preform poorly as a knife but that's OK so long as they have a great action and drop shut... Pete is literally the only knife reviewer that isn't just shilling for Kizer, We/Civivi/Sencut, QSP etc etc... he's the only one that's actually testing the knives and steels and giving us true data.... literally all the other channels out there that are beyond 1k subs are literally just shilling for the China budget knife channels... Kizer gives them knives to give away and grow their channels so they just sit and tell how great each model is when they haven't even used the knife.... the funniest one is the ones that open a knife and do a review LMAO.... HOW TF you gonna open a new knife and do a review without even using it? I'll tell you how! It's because the whole review is based on how the action is, the materials, how fidgety it is... they aren't reviewing knives as a knife... they are reviewing knives as pocket fidget toys and pocket jewelry... they could care less about the knife being a knife so long as they can sit and flick it open 7 different ways and it's smooth as it drops shut. Other then Pete, the entire youtube knife reviewer/channel scene is nothing more then a bunch of china budget knife shills and then you have the couple channels like metal complex that just make fun of his viewers and show off the 1500 to 3000 dollar knives they are given of buy for pennies on the dollar to show off on their channel and talk about how pretty it is and how great the materials are while they handle the knife with gloved hands.... Pete is literally the only knife channel that kept it real and is giving real data on the knives and steels.... the only other one that has kept it real to is Advanced knife bro, he doesn't provide much data in his videos but at least he does actually use the knife and tell honestly how it performs.... and you have JoeX that really puts knives thru their paces to the point of failure... he really works the knives to and its useful info to some extent because he's going to show you just how much the knife can take to the breaking point. I like JoeX but to be honest the info in his videos isn't useful to 99% of us because we would never use a knife in the manner he is testing it.

    Yeah anyways . So I got he manix 2 yesterday 12 years or so after release date . I remember when it came out and I didn’t get it . The knife feels great choked up ,reverse, ball sprin is getting a little looser . It was a little difficult frost cpl hundred flips but I stuck a ,precision bit fits perfect in the cage hole with the blade open and it helped relive a little pressure from the spring . I’m sure everyone already knows about this 12 years later , lol . I m so silly. Haha . I do love them knives tho and the community and have made met some really nice people . Sending and receiving packages on good ol trust and email is a beautiful thing . Everyone stay cool 😎. Thank you

    From what I have seen and read, SPY27 IS A PERFORMER, BUT EASIER OR EVEN EASY to sharpen. That's what you get, some good edge holding and toughness with corrosion resistance. Just not the MOST toughness, and edge holding. I have Mule team #28 and PM2 in SPY27. I'd be happy with SPY27 VG 10 or N690 Co

  • @MightyRude
    @MightyRude 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The rust next to the spyderco logo is caused by the laser etching of the logo this creates a thin black oxide layer (or rust in layman’s terms).
    Oxygen can’t pass this thin uniform oxide layer protecting the steel underneath the logo from rusting any further, but the sides of the logo aren’t protected by this oxide layer allowing the steel to rust.
    That’s why I’m not the biggest fan of laser etching on most steel blades (unless the manufacturer removes the oxide layer).

      I think it offers spyderco a great middle of the road EDC steel that doesn't hit the customer too hard in the wallet. It has s35vn level edge retention in an easier to machine (and therefore easier to produce and maintain) package. It slots in well above bd1 or VG-10 and under s110 or maxamet.

    Because of you, I bought one. Spyderco should be sending you a commission check soon. Also, your blue handle looks way more blue than my turquoise handle. Wonder if there are different variations, or...my screen color is set wrong, or...anything south of the equator is darker blue or...I'm losing my mind. Not sure yet. But I do love the knife though. Thank you. I do defer to you quite often when I'm curious about a knife steel and itching to buy something new. Just realized I have a Manix 2, so add "I'm an idiot" to the color question. Ugh!!

    Not having watched the whole video, I wonder just how much this is an improvement on the end user, this steel provides.
    CPM S35vn is already the most balanced pocket knife steel I’ve ever worked with. Good edge retention, easy enough to sharpen that it can be done free handed on most any medium, good stain resistance, pretty tough.
    It’s much better than S30v
    Unless this provides better edge retention or makes the knives cheaper, idk what the point there is on this steel.
    Maybe that will become the new defacto
    High end steel for Spyderco. That would be an improvement.

    • @JustIn-op6oy
      @JustIn-op6oy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A little better retention than s35vn and a little easier to sharpen up. I've read it also doesn't drive up production cost and it adds a little variety, so it helps fill put spyderco's catalog.

    Hopefully in the near future you get to test a knife out of Larin’s Magnacut! Sound extremely impressive

    Hey Cedric ? How much of a polish or grit level should I go up to for best performance with a manix 2 s30v steel I think it’s called . I heard mirror polishing can sometimes not be as good for some of the steels ? Thanks if you can help 😊

    Looking to buy a manix 2 lw for Christmas. I was wondering if it would be best in this spy27 or s110v since they are about $15 apart. Any help is appreciated.

    Seems like a missed opportunity to not have assessed which of these steels can ‘Cut the Mustard’
