    Always learn something in your videos! Curious as to the brand of ring you use on the fly line loop. I’ve been on the hunt for truly small tippet rings, so far I’ve found that most 1mm rings aren’t appreciably smaller than the 2mm ones, and I could be going a lot smaller given the lines I’m using.

    Great video, this winter has been tough. Hard to find the grayling and they don’t seem to be shoaling up on the local

      Thanks , worryingly the one constant I have seen this winter is that I’ve found most “shoaled” fish in areas with a lot of Cormorants- particularly on rivers in the Scottish Borders . Still it’s been a good winter season, the day we shot this was about the toughest day I’ve had .

      @@howardcrostonflyfisher9227thanks for taking the time to make these kinds of videos. Most of the improvements I’ve made as an angler the last year has been from watching these 🙌🏼

      I found a few good ones today, one was 51cm. How do you fix a tippet ring to the end of your fly line?

    Howard that’s a great vid with lots of detail & ideas that will improve my fishing , thank you. Can you say what make/ type of clip on box you are using , it seems to have a magnet and foam to hook flys into easily?

    Great video. I always struggle with striking when I think I'm ticking bottom. I'm almost always dragging my point fly along the bottom of the river, and I feel like if I struck on every indication I'd never be fishing. Am I just using too heavy a point fly? should I be keeping the point fly above the bottom by moving the rod tip?

  • @DaiHGowerWales
    @DaiHGowerWales 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Learning loads here thank you Howard and Fulling Mill. Ive seen someone using split shot on the point as a sacrificial snap off instead of a point fly, then two flies both as droppers above the splitshot (a bit like a rotten bottom in sea angling). Any views on the pros and cons of such a method.

    • @FullingMillTV
      @FullingMillTV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It certainly can work, but sometimes fish hold at the depth of the split shot and you would want to have a fly there rather than the shot. Plus, we prefer to fish with confidence and risk loosing flies. You may loose more flies, but you will also catch more fish 😃

    I love that Fulling Mill chest fly box. When will those be available?

    • @FullingMillTV

      They’re available now outside of the US, and they will be in the US mid February.

    Nice. What I like the most about you, you always have in your arsenal some home made things (like that reel band you made). Those things bring you good luck. I believe. You also have some second rod holder and I guess that is also home made. It is difficult to carry two rods on the river and looks like you found good way. Are you satisfied with that solution?

    • @patches152
      @patches152 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Looks like an opros rod holder on his belt

    • @Leavenotraceexpeditions
      @Leavenotraceexpeditions 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is not oPro holder.

      It’s a home made one . The original was from pvc pipe but this is a carbon version made by a friend.

    Dear Howard,
    once again an excellent video, very well done.
    When you are fishing light tippets, what knots are you using?
    I use a three turn water knot for my droppers and a davy knot for my point fly. Is that your "terminal" knot in river competitions, too?
    Tight lines!

    • @howardcrostonflyfisher9227
      @howardcrostonflyfisher9227 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      More or less , I often use an untucked blood for the fly - really just because I can tie to fast and it really never lets me down .

    I rather enjoy trotting a float with a centrepin for grayling.
