    What a fun project! Thank you for sharing 😃
    Couple of notes about the mold making - 1) Add a thin layer of cheese cloth or similar fabric between the detail layer and the bulk layer. This will mitigate tears. 2) Embed at least two register pieces to your bulk silicone surface. It can be as simple as scrap silicone lumps, marbles, chunks of wood, etc. Just make sure they are distinct shapes from one another. This will allow the silicone to settle back into the stiffener layer perfectly every time.

    I have only just come across your channel. As they say, you always keep on learning. I started molding statues 3 years ago just to help my wife out in her mosaic hobby. And for a little while it was just a hobby for me. Since then I have semi retired (I am 60) and making statues has become a full time business. I now have made 63 latex molds with fiberglass mother molds. It was very interesting to see what you did with the silicon. I use a similar thing to fill in the undercuts on my latex molds prior to fiber-glassing except I use a lot more corn starch to make a moldable mix. I have also used this mix to make impression molds. While, the process you have shown is something I doubt I would use it is still a very interesting process to keep at the back of my mind should the need arise and I am asked to do a number of wall plaques etc at short notice and in a minimum run. Thank you

    Oh how I have been looking for someone like you. Thank you. I play with clay, concrete and epoxy. I’m done with epoxy because of temperature issues however wanted to make my own designs so got into clay to design and then decided to use the clay to then mold them into my own. You have been so helpful. Thank you so so so much!!!!!

    I think you could use parafin wax on the surface by heating the concrete and allow parafin or candle wax to just melt and spread around for a mold release.

    I think that concrete as a backer would be a good bit cheaper than fiberglass, even with a 50 lb bag of white sand at 10 dollars. And a lot less trouble!

    Very nice! New subscriber here. I want to know how to make molds for the pots you have on the shelf because I make bonsai pots and mine aren't very good. The plants don't seem to mind, because they make the plants look more beautiful.

    Thank you for such an in-depth instructional video! Could you do a video on molding and casting a custom olla out of concrete sometime?

      Thank you, I am happy you are enjoying the content. Do ollas get made from concrete? I am not very familiar but the shape would sure work well for this process.

      @@creatingconcrete Ollas, in my understanding, are made from terracotta. Given the porousness of concrete, I've been wondering if a concrete olla would be viable. Do you have any thoughts on it?

    Thinking I've found a new obsession. Was looking for tips on the clone a willy I got for my woman's birthday and I'm a couple hrs down the TH-cam rabbit hole now. I will be attempting overly complicated molds beyond my skill level asap 😂

    The original looks a little larger. Is there shrinkage in the mold size when using the silicone?

    • @creatingconcrete
      @creatingconcrete  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      They are actually precisely the same size. There is no shrinkage whatsoever. Maybe it is a color effect from the different versions being shown

    So if a person wanted to make, say, a tessellated paver with surface carved details, roughly the size of a turkey platter, what mold material would you suggest? Something that will need to be cast several hundred times, maybe three or four molds going at a time. Would you suggest going with the thick poly or would the silicone work just fine? Or is there a completely different material you would suggest?

    Thank you so much for this great video! Would I be able to use non dry modeling clay as a cast versus the concrete you used? If so, what would I do differently?

    Question. How do you polish your concrete builds? BTW subscribed, love your Channel. I make various concrete castings but sometimes they turn out rough or flaky. I want to make them smooth

    Have you done a video on geopolymer concrete and non-fly ash mixtures in particular?
    I looked briefly on your channel but didn't find anything.
