I want to make sure I’m being clear- I am no way complaining about teachers, parents who don’t homeschool etc. My ENTIRE point is that what this is creating is a false narrative about what homeschooling actually is. Experienced homeschoolers already know we are fighting an uphill battle when it comes to to the societal perception about HS. The idea that “crisis schooling” is a parallel to HS is not only a disservice to Homeschool family- but also to teachers who are busting tail to make their lesson plans virtual and help their students, but also to parents who are thrust into working full time and trying to help their kids with school too. It’s a no-win for all involved. We need to see this time for what it is. Unprecedented and unique... nuanced and challenging in many different ways. Not to put too fine a point on it 😉

Angela Braniff In regards to what you were saying about mothers’ judging each other about potting training etc. I wonder if it has to do with the pressures and negative stigma society puts on mothers (not educated, only good for kids, cleaning, cooking, etc). Maybe mothers are deflecting these stigmas onto other mothers almost to say “It’s not me. I’m not part of the motherhood stereotypes. I know what I’m doing.” It’s sad that mothers live in this fear and judgement from society or other mothers. I hope mothers can stick together and instead of pointing fingers at one another, we can unite and grow stronger together. There’s so much we can learn from each other - in a loving way.

Angela totally agree, you do great job, bless you, my sister so stressed at mo, with correcting work and then going into work... Brother in law sharing hours not sleeping etc older kiddos work, 2nd third class, myself and husband doing our best the link knan academy 👌here in Ireland have put up learning at home from Monday on channel and its really good subject each day, the thing really peeved off about is that children in crèche... Parents still have to play fees, thank god my Ro in preschool as free for two years here scheme you see, its only three hours but Hay, boys love being at home together getting on great... Early summer holidays, but we will do our best good on you Angela getting the situation out there, alot of people putting pics up instagram etc thinking they are teachers clearly not... Tables set up all that jazz, probably lasted five mins then kiddos back on their iPads... Again very false, well tomorrow going to write upper, lower font letters and spellings😉

One of my friends made a great comment. She said she was not homeschooling her kid. That saying that she was, when his teachers were creating lessons online for and trying their best to teach them through virtual learning, was a huge disservice to the teachers who are doing everything that they can to keep kids on track during this challenging time.

I’m a teacher and I think parents are giving themselves a false sense of “homeschooling”. My good friend homeschools and there is a LOT that goes into it!! There is also a LOT that goes into being a teacher and schooling there. This is NOT home schooling and what is being passed out is NOT what we do in school. Rant over.

Very true! I think before covid 19 homeschoolers are offended just as school educators are offended. The US is the only country that does not hold teachers to be at the same level as doctors and lawyers etc. I don’t change a lightbulb and think yep I’m an electrician or put a bandaid in my kid and think I could be or am a doctor. There is a lot more to Iran’s requires a college degree as well as further education to fully understand the brain, how kids learn, best techniques, engagement, cooperative learning that getting a state curriculum and some workbooks and having kids answer some questions is not what learning is like in the classroom.

I agree, momwithsparklyheels my Mom homeschooled all 7 of us and she worked hard planning every year what was going to happen and what stuff worked for each child. And teachers work just as hard planning the school year. This was all thrown together none of it was planned or thought out and we all have to be home. We can't take our kids anywhere to see or learn things.

I’ll never get the mom shaming. Also, I’ve had enough kids to KNOW I do not have the answers. The minute I have something figured out, I have a child come along that proves me wrong. Keeps one humble! 🤣 And if all our families looked the same, things would be so boring!!! Loved all your answers to all the things.

We adopted our son from foster care when he was 4 years old, we do receive a small check monthly (not enough to cover the expense of a child) and he gets free healthcare, (which is nice); however, every child that has been in foster care has special needs (some more than others), but they lost their biological parents at the least and extreme abuse at the worse. No one is adopting from foster care for the money, it done from love and a desire to be their parent.

This is crisis schooling. I was homeschooled and support home school. I am an educator who is now working from home supporting a team of teachers providing elearning. Kids who are suddenly taken out of their daily routine and familiar learning environment. Many middle and high school kids who are sitting home alone because their parents are working essential jobs. This is CRISIS SCHOOLING not homeschooling. Not only can it do homeschool a disservice, all these parents who are so overwhelmed should take a breath. True homeschool parents choose the curriculum and routine and normally have at least one parent who is dedicated to schooling as at least part of their “job”. My husband and I are both working from home with three kids five and under while attempting to facilitate kindergarten and preschool. Grace upon grace upon grace is needed. I wouldn’t even pretend to call what we are doing homeschool. But all these homeschool people who are posting their “tips” on social media should not compare what we are doing to what they are doing either!
Love you Angela....always love your rants 🥰

Yes yes yes!!!! As a HS mom- we want to help if we can, but I think there are many facets of this. SAHM who are now doing school, but there are many folks who are still working full time and trying to help their kids with school. It’s an arduous task. I’m fortunate- while I do work full time in addition to HSing, I have flexible work hours somewhat and a spouse to help. Most don’t have that. 😕

My grandmother was a teenager during WW2 and had a thing with butter and basic dairy products like curd. She would not throw it away even if clearly gone bad (not talking best due dates but smell here). But then, travelling to Tirol (about 600km) by foot during the war and - as a young girl being very lucky to get little jobs like washing pigs and doing very basic work a farm here and there for getting some butter to eat explains it pretty well. She became a medical doctor and died at the age of 94 in the beginning of last winter, and i am really glad she did before this worldwide fear porn thing started, especially with her background. Reevaluating what every one of us thinks is "traumatizing" should be one of the TRUE curriculums for EVERYONE during this mandatory global "time-out".

3 of my little siblings are adopted from foster care. Yes, the adoption is free. Yes, if they have severe medical issues, they get medicaid from the state. Yes, you get "reimbursed" for SOME of their needs. Somehow there will always be people who seem to feel that this makes it an "illegitimate" adoption or that they did it for the money. No. Just no. Fostering is HARD. Fostering is EXPENSIVE. Fostering takes ALL of you. It is NOT cheap OR free. Never. Interestingly, I've noticed that the people who make these snarky comments are the ones who never invest themselves in anyone except themselves. It's just something they like to use to justify their own unwillingness to get down and get dirty and help anyone else. That's fine because they're also not the ones who reap all the love and the fulfillment of living for someone and something beyond yourself. 😉 It's ABSOLUTELY worth it but because of much better benefits than money!- never because of the money you "make". Haha. There's no money "making" involved!

I wish it was more like homeschooling. We are just finishing 3 weeks of self isolating up in Canada and during this time our teachers were simply sending us a guideline with some sites to parouse, and some resources. So with my planner mommy abilities I took some things here, there, purchased my own materials and set up a beautiful schooling schedule. It was great. I got to adapt to my kiddo. I learnt he was a more hands on learner. He loves projects and science. He's a huge crafter and loves to bake and cook. So I taught chemistry and math through the stuff he loves. He was telling me how much fun this was and that he felt that everything was making more sense. Just today since they've extended school closures until may 6th that now we will have manditory assignments due. Timelines and imposing these inconceivable tasks and responsibilities while both of us are working from home 7 to 9 hours a day. Not to mention we have a 20 month old. Home at school honestly sucks. Homeschooling the way you described, seems better. Not because it's easier but it takes you and you kids needs into account. Regular school I feel doesn't deal with this very well. I'm strongly considering moving to homeschooling full time. Oh my hubby and I are slowly building us a emergency pantry now too. I hear you. You're not crazy. This situation has opened my eyes a little more.

As a veteran teacher (17 years) who now homeschools her children (who came from traditional school....my oldest two attended private school through 6th grade), I just want to remind everybody that in times of difficulty it is common for people to use humor and sarcasm to cope. I know it can be extra frustrating because homeschooling often already gets a bad rap....but I think most (not all, of course....there are those 🤐) people know that schooling at home during quarantine is definitely not the same as homeschooling. I think we need to remember that this is difficult, uncharted territory for ALL of us! And no matter which schooling method category we fell into before this mess, I think we ALLLLLLL fall into the "this is really hard" category now. I'm praying that this will help us learn to work together no matter our differences in schooling choices. ❤

Comments that other moms make can really hurt because they are not aware that we all have different situations and we should support each other rather than tear each other down❤️❤️. When I was raising my kids and I go back a long way. My middle child loved his bottle. And I was in no hurry to take it . I figured he'll give it up in his own time. Same potty training . My grandmother was having a cow over the fact that he was 2 and still had a bottle and that I was not trying to potty train him. I finally said when he goes to kindergarten he can go with his bottle under his arm and a pamper under the other . If his teacher was bothered by it she was more than welcome to take care of it herself. But he was three gave up the bottle all by himself and potty trained . He let me know and I took his word for it. Mind you he is now a grand dad himself. LOL

Just watched your current video where you explained the whole homeschool thing. Your example was spot on!! Great job. I to am getting so many messages from friends and family saying they dont know how I homeschool and everything else you have said it's been said to me.. I have been telling them they aren't homeschooling they are public schooling at home there is a difference. 10 years of homeschooling this lock down has changed everything for us and not for the better

About college degrees... My sisters and I talk about this. We all have multiple college degrees, and none of us wants to go back to college in the traditional sense. When you say you would like 6 different degrees, that fits with our conversations. We’ ve all said that we would just like to take the classes we found interesting or sit in on amazing lectures by great professors. None of us wants to jump through hoops again, nor do we want to be that broke again. But, sampling anything that we want with no worry about finances or time... that we’d do.

Those of us who've been watch since the beginning and are homeschooling previous to the world's current dilemma know you enough to understand where your heart was in the matter! I think your great and glad you opened up about it on this platform, people like me only have the comments section and sometimes they're turned off

As a public school teacher who grew up being homeschooled, you're absolutely right that quarantine schooling is not an accurate representation of homeschooling at all. There are so many preconceived notions about homeschoolers. I can't tell you how many times I told someone I was homeschooled and they responded with, "You're homeschooled? I never would've known!" Even now there is a large group of people who seem to think homeschoolers are simply socially awkward children who are obsessed with "Little House on the Prairie". I can tell you right now that if this quarantine had happened when I was a kid, I would be just as frustrated as my peers who went to public school. Most homeschoolers still see their friends every day, go on field trips, go to group classes with other homeschoolers, etc.
Homeschooling definitely isn't for everyone. It has its pros and cons just like private and public schools do. That being said, I speak from experience when I say that homeschooling is so much more than the remote learning that is currently taking place. If homeschooling was remotely close to the quarantine schooling that is going on, you better believe that I would not be defending it right now.

So many things I was yelling "yes!" and "preach!" to by myself when I was watching this video! Haha! I loved what you said about so many things and really, the heart behind it. I have four littles and have learned over time that what you say is true (potty training, mom guilt, etc). Most of the time when I find myself being harder on others, it's because I'm feeling insecure myself not necessarily that what others are doing is wrong. God has been gracious to me, therefore I can show grace to others (and myself).

Yes yes yes!! I've been telling many family members and friends that what I am doing with my boys is NOT homeschooling. This is nowhere close to what homeschooling is or supposed to be. I can go on and on about my rant, but you said it the best! 👏🏻 we chose public school for our boys because it was the best choice for us right now, but we greatly respect all of our friends who homeschool. ❤ I feel right now a ton of us who have been thrust into this "school at home" scenario are in survival mode and trying to support our kids the best we can.

Loved what you had to say about homeschooling! There is a new line of products available at Target called Up North Naturals. It’s a Canadian based company and the founder/owner is the adoptive mama of one of the babies my parents fostered. It is wonderful stuff, the hair milk is used by everyone in our family- it’s amazing for curls of any colour, and the best detangler. Plus it’s an adoptive mama, not a huge corporation and it’s natural ingredients. Jordan Page has great videos about 72 hour kits for her 8 kids and other emergency prep! Finding that balance between having ‘enough’ to be wise but not ‘more than enough’ is a balance.

My son is 4, pre-Corona he was in a private PreK. During that time we have always supplemented with "afterschooling". My son's school did not send home work, but I already had pieces of curriculum here. Now I've ordered him a full curriculum, so it's cohesive. My point is, I wish this moment in time would be used as a time to encourage homeschooling. Videos similar to yours are the reason I bought a full curriculum. I wish I could homeschool my child full time. I am honestly enjoying this time, but I have friends who are having difficulty working the school provided lessons out with their children. So in essence, those parents are researching, prepping, and learning with their children. I love your videos. I appreciate your angle on quarantine school, those parents just want to feel like they belong somewhere.

I love the things you said about how stay at home moms still have interests and their own life apart from caring for the house and kids. Thats one major struggle of mine lately. I feel stuck in the hamster wheel and am losing myself. I have a 16 month old son and baby number 2 is due next month. Now add the isolation and anxiety of covid and here i am, doing nothing but caring for the house and my son for weeks. Even though my husband takes a LOT of the burden off of me and we share all the chores, i am just exhausted all the time and even when my son is in bed i dont have energy to do something for myself. I try to convince myself that its the pregnancy and things will get back to normal once our baby girl is born but i kinda doubt that adding a newborn will make anything easier..
