    How do you measure the length of the fabric before you start?

    • @Euniceathome
      @Euniceathome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I used 6ft of fabric for my 14" diameter lamp shade. I would suggest measuring the circumference of the widest part of your shade and at least doubling that.

    • @Euniceathome

    Your lamp shade is beautiful. My lamp shades are almost 30 years old and the fabric is crumbling. I have been trying to find a replacement shade for 2 years. As you mentioned, it can be costly to replace lamp shades. Replacing the shades for my 2 lamps would cost $75.00 to $100.00 each and they are hard to find with a 21-22" base diameter. I am not crazy about what I have found so far. I don't want to buy new lamps because it would be hard to find something I like that would go with my older furniture. I am going to try your procedure. Thank you for sharing!

    Do you think a less thick fabric would be better? Worse? Any other changes or non-changes you feel strongly about after living with the lamp shade for a while? Do you think stitching the lampshade onto the base shade was possible?

    • @Euniceathome
      @Euniceathome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only thing I’d do differently is just ensure that the lines are more evenly spaced as I’m hot gluing the shade on, but besides that - the shade is still in great condition. You could definitely sew if that’s your preference, but because the fabric was pretty thick, hot glue sufficed. Less thick fabric would be easier to stiffen but might show the hot glue through especially if it’s light in color. The thicker, the more generously you’ll need to spray the stiffener (it should feel soaked) Thanks for watching 🥰

      Do you mean for the fabric? I got a thick cross stitched linen like fabric. Anything works but I'd recommend something thick if you're using hot glue so that the glue marks don't show through!

    I just made this, sadly it didn't fit my shade. You need to account for the diameter at the top of the shade too, not just the bottom. Bummer!

      Awww I’m sorry it didn’t fit 😢 Thank you for sharing your learning 🥰 Hope you’ll get to try it again!

      @@Euniceathome Maybe it’s bottom+ top and then double it?

      @@daniellemartin3509 That could work! oh I just realized you wrote diameter above, I doubled the circumference for mine! i really hope I didn't say diameter in the video 😅

    It would be so much easier if you sewed the edges on a sewing machine….just try next time…I made them with fabric coated wallpaper in the 70s……

      Wow yours sounds beautiful and that’s a great idea! I’m actually planning to learn to use a sewing machine soon :)
