Takes me back 38 yrs ago, where I used to paint lampshade frames by electro statically powder coating the frames white for Salters lampshades in Radcliffe, Bury. Such a long time ago, wow, some loverly work there.
@@thelampshadelady my pleasure, I have a lamp that was made by my grandfather who was in the merchant navy, in his spare time he made a lamp out of a impeller that gave the ships speed in the water on a wooden base and a red lampshade, it’s my goal to retire to modern standards and strips, blast the frame, repaint and recover the shade to suit our home. I’m lucky that I have many talents that I can pick up quite quickly new skills, we’ll see how it goes with the shade, ty and all the best wishes for the future, phil
Hello, you are so talented. Do you repair shades? I have a shade that has deteriorated that was my mom's. I would love to save it in memory of my mom. TY, Pam
Hello Pam, Thank you for your lovely message. We re-cover all sorts of lampshades, the main provision being that the metalwork is intact and is not bent out of shape. If you would like a quotation please email photographs of the lampshade, together with its dimensions to info@thelampshadelady.co.uk and we can take it from there. Best wishes, Isobel
I have some lampshades that need to be recovered they’re from the 20s and 30s and they are very unusual shape a couple are umbrellas and then a couple are of a sort of a step pyramid shape and I need to find out how to really do the job and do the justice that these lamps deserve, I wish I could take a course somewhere to learn to do the job right or at least, find someone who knows what they’re doing I can do the shade
Hi Carlos, These sound complicated as a first project! I suggest you start with something simpler (like a bowed empire with a plain cover). Best wishes, Isobel
Hi Isobel, I'm currently experimenting with silk painting and wondered if you did any workshops to teach me how to learn how to do these? I much prefer in person although i really enjoyed your video here. Best wishes Stephanie
Hi Stephanie, Thank you for your kind feedback, the intention is to add more videos. I do not run workshops as I prefer to focus on making! Best wishes, Isobel
I enjoyed your video very much. I'm going to make my first softback lampshade (I hope). It's a long drum shade that is slightly wider on the bottom. Do you know of any videos I can watch for instruction? Books aren't really helping me so much. I need to see the real thing! Thanks for any direction on this. I love your work!
Hi Jackie, Thank you for your kind comments - I love my job! I intend to add more videos but I am not sure of the time-frame. Good luck with your endeavours. Best wishes, Isobel
I want to make a triangle lampshade, pointing to one side to make a flag. Now that I see how much sewing is involved, I’m a bit intimidated. I was hoping to find a tutorial to make the frame. Do you do tutorials or are your videos to showcase your product? What is the average range of a custom shade about 9”-12” w, 6”-9” h?
Hi BenDoesGames, Thank you for your kind comments. We are always delighted to offer custom shapes! We make all sorts of different shapes and sizes of frames (for our hand-sewn, soft lampshades) and ring-sets (for our card-backed, rigid lampshades). If you have a design in mind or would like further information please get in touch - there is a contact form here: www.thelampshadelady.co.uk/contact or you can use the email address on the website. Best wishes, Isobel

…”The lining which has been laminated onto the special lampshade material…” 🤔. So close and yet so far ….from finding out what that “special lampshade material is….” 🤣
Your work is lovely. It looks effortless, and every artisan knows how much work and care that requires.
🙏 🙏 I love making lampshades!
Commenting for the algorithm. More videos please!😊
Thank you for the nudge - I am working on it! Best wishes, Isobel
